With a 1,400-year-old story, the village is home to seven old kilns that are still in use, showing its rich porcelain culture. In 2009, the traditional wood-fired skill of Longquan celadon porcelain was considered by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

“Hello, little girl,” he said, “is your mama at home?”
I nodded and opened the gate to let him get in the yard. He looked like all the homeless men who came to my home before. His messy hair hung below a shapeless hat, and his old shirt and trousers had been rained on and slept in. He smelled bad.
He walked to the door. When my mother appeared, he asked, “Lady, could you spare something to eat?”
“I think so. Please sit on the step.”
Later, my mother came back and handed him a sandwich made from homemade bread and pieces of boiled meat. She also gave him a bottle of milk. “Thank you, lady,” he said.
I played at the gate, watching the man wolf down the sandwich and empty the cup. After finishing the food, he stood up and walked back through the gate. “ ▲ ” he told me on the way out.
Jenny had said all the homeless men told each other who would feed them. “They never come to my house because my mom refused to feed them!” she had said proudly and happily.
“So why does Mama feed the poor man?” I wondered. I walked inside. “Jenny’s mama says those men are too lazy to work. Why do we feed them?”
My mother smiled. “Sweetheart, we don’t know why these men don’t work,” she said, “but they were babies once. And their mamas loved them, just like I love you.” She put her hands on my shoulders and drew me close to her.

As a world leader in clean energy development, China is playing an important part in protecting the environment.

What about running? Running can be a good choice for you. Many people choose to run when they are free. Running should not be a dangerous activity. For your own safety, learn these tips and try to be a good runner.
*Take your time
If you are keen on running, you may want to run often. However, overdoing it or pushing yourself too hard can cause you to get hurt. It’s also important not to run too fast at the beginning. Run at a pace (速度) that feels comfortable. And if you’re planning on a long run, remember to increase your pace slowly.
*Take breaks
Resting is as important as training. Your body needs time to rest after hard runs. Running coach Sam Murphy says that if you run hard one day, taking a break or doing an easier run the next day is necessary. Some runners follow the 80/20 plan: 80% of their runs each week are easy, and only 20% are hard.
*Have a strong body
According to Runner’s World, strength training is great for runners. It can help make your body stronger, lower the risk of getting hurt, and even improve your speed. However, this doesn’t mean you need to do heavy weight training. Simple exercises at home, like sit-ups and push-ups, can be good too.
*Have a good diet
Eating and drinking the right things is also important. “Many people forget this,” Dr. Paul Hobrough said, “Drink plenty of water and eat food rich in protein like eggs, chicken and milk.”

Xitou in Zhejiang province
Hidden in the mountains of Longquan, Zhejiang province, Xitou village is a spot that’s been making celadon porcelain (青瓷) for over a thousand years. In this village, families have carefully protected and passed down their craft skills from one generation to the next.
With a 1,400-year-old story, the village is home to seven old kilns that are still in use, showing its rich porcelain culture. In 2009, the traditional wood-fired skill of Longquan celadon porcelain was considered by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

根据文章“over 60 ‘mushroom houses’ made of bricks and straw roofs are regarded as the best-kept group of traditional homes for the Hani people”可知,阿者科村以哈尼族传统民居“蘑菇房”而闻名。

I was playing at the front gate, trying to decide whether to walk down the street to play with Jenny, when I saw a poor man coming up the road.
“For me, I fed them for their mothers, because if you were ever hungry and had nothing to eat, I would want others’ mothers to feed you.”
I seemed to find out the answer to my question and understand that.
31. What did the mother do after the poor man came to the writer’s home?
A. She made a cake for him. B. She gave him some money.
C. She invited him to have some coffee. D. She offered him some food.
32. Which of the following can best fit in the ▲ ?
A. They said your mama would feed me. B. I would like to come to play with you again.
C. It’s kind of you to let me stay here for one night. D. We will ask Jenny’s mother to feed us, too.
33. What is the right order of this passage?
a. My mother talked with the poor man.
b. I understood my mother after talking to her.
c. I played at the gate and watched the poor man having food.
d. I opened the gate to let the poor man get in the yard.
e. The poor man stood up and walked back through the gate.
A. d-c-a-b-e B. a-e-d-c-b C. c-a-e-d-b D. d-a-c-e-b
34. What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. the question that Jenny didn’t know before
B. the fact that Jenny’s family wouldn’t let the poor men in
C. the reason why the mother fed the poor man
D. the talk between the mother and the writer
35. What can we learn from the story?
A. Poor people are lazy and do not deserve food.
B. We should only help people we know.
C. Kindness comes from love, not judgment.
D. Children should not talk to homeless people.
D 32. A 33. D 34. C 35. C
文章第六段“Later, my mother came back and handed him a sandwich made from homemade bread and pieces of boiled meat. She also gave him a bottle of milk”,说明母亲回来后给可怜人提供了三明治、肉和牛奶,即提供了一些食物。
文章第八段“Jenny had said all the homeless men told each other who would feed them”,说明流浪汉之间会互相告知谁家会给食物。
上文作者问母亲“Why do we feed them?”以及母亲解释的原因“I fed them for their mothers…”,最后一段作者说“find out the answer to my question and understand that”,这里的that指代的是母亲给流浪汉提供食物的原因。
文章通过母亲的话“they were babies once. And their mamas loved them…I would want others'mothers to feed you”表明,母亲帮助流浪汉不是基于他们是否懒惰的判断,而是基于母爱和同理心。
