七、阅读理解
According to a 2026 report, plastic pollution has become one of the most serious environmental problems in the world. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean, harming marine life and ecosystems.
However, more and more young people are taking action to live a greener life. A recent survey shows that 85.1% of young people feel that green and low-carbon ideas have become more a part of their daily lives. Saving water, saving electricity, and choosing green transportation have become the top three low-carbon habits among young people.
The survey also shows that 62.0% of young people suggest providing cheaper and better green products. 60.7% hope to expand the “trade-in” policy. 59.3% stick to the “clean plate” action or reduce food waste. 51.9% try not to use or use fewer single-use items.
“Green living helps keep the earth clean and safe for everyone,” says Wang Lin, a 16-year-old student from Beijing. “Everyone knows that there is no Planet B. We should take action now before it’s too late.”

十、阅读理解
In 2025, a group of environmental scientists published a report on plastic pollution in China’s rivers. The report, based on data from over 1,000 locations, showed that microplastics have been found in more than 80% of the river samples tested.
Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic smaller than five millimetres. They come from the breakdown of larger plastic items, as well as from products like cosmetics and synthetic clothing. These tiny particles are easily swallowed by fish and other aquatic animals, entering the food chain and eventually reaching humans.
Dr Zhang Wei, who has studied plastic pollution for over 10 years, says the situation is serious but not hopeless. “If we take action now, we can still reduce the amount of plastic in our rivers. We must cut down on single-use plastics and improve our recycling systems.”
One successful example is Shanghai, which introduced strict waste sorting rules in 2019. The city has seen a significant reduction in plastic waste sent to landfills. Other cities have also shown positive results.
“No matter what challenges we face, we should never give up,” Dr Zhang says. “Green living is not just a choice — it is a responsibility for all of us.”

Live green
I felt deeply shocked after learning it takes hundreds of years for plastic to break down in natural surroundings. Plastic pollution is far worse than I imagined.
No matter what difficulties we meet, we ought to protect our home actively. My family sticks to green living every day. We carry cloth bags instead of plastic ones while shopping and sort rubbish to recycle paper and plastic. My grandma even remakes old clothes into storage bags.
Plastic pollution harms not only wild animals but also human beings. There is no Planet B for us. If everyone takes small steps, we can protect our earth together. Green living is not a choice, but a duty for every person.
