B The life of a premature (早产的) baby born during the winter storm in Texas was saved thanks to a team of medical professionals, including a doctor and two nurses who travelled from East Austin to Marble Falls in an effort to save a newborn baby’s life. When Arias began experiencing pains, she and her parents headed to the closest hospital, Baylor Scott & White. Arias gave birth to her daughter, Zaylynn, who weighed just over one pound and was in need of advanced special care. However, the hospital does not offer the specialized care premature babies require. “We had five or six people out at the nurses’ station calling hospital networks all over the state of Texas,” said Meredith Schubert, the labour and delivery nurse on duty when Arias arrived. “Nobody could answer our cry for help.” They finally reached Dr. John Loyd through a patient, division neonatologist (新生儿学专家) chief at Dell Children’s Medical Centre in Austin, Texas. Around 5 p.m., after already having worked a full shift, Loyd packed his SUV with equipment and he and two nurses set out for Marble Falls, about 55 miles away. The drive took Loyd and the nurses about two hours as they drove in the night through ice and snow. After safely arriving at the medical centre in Marble Falls around 8 p.m., the Dell Children’s crew set up a temporary newborn ICU Together, the Dell Children’s and Baylor Scott & White teams worked around the clock to care for the mother and daughter. Once the weather cleared enough to allow for a helicopter to safely land, Zaylynn was transferred to Dell Children’s, where there is a Level IV newborn ICU. Schubert said, “It was a huge relief and a sense of achievement and joy that Zaylynn finally got to the place where she needed to be.” Arias said that she was grateful to the doctors and nurses who worked together to save her daughter. 24. What was the main problem faced by Arias and her daughter after giving birth? A. Arias was in severe pain. B. They couldn’t find a nearby hospital. C. Zaylynn weighed too much for the hospital to handle. D. The hospital lacked specialized care for premature babies. 25. What do we know about the nurses’ call for help before reaching Loyd? A. No reply was received at first. B. First aid was put off because of it. C. It wasn’t sent out for the heavy snow. D. A medical team came to their help as a result. 26. What made the doctors and nurses feel a sense of relief? A. The fine weather. B. The baby’s improvement. C. The baby’s arrival at Dell Children’s. D. The take-off of the helicopter. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. A Mother’s Pain and Joy B. A Team’s Effort to Save a Life C. The Challenges of Winter Storms D. The Importance of Specialized Care C When large animals like bears require operations, doctors depend on anesthesia (麻醉) to keep both the animal and medical team safe. But what happens if a shark in the open ocean needs surgery (外科手术) — for example, to plant an internal tag (内部标签)? The process is surprisingly fast and looks very different, explains Caroline Collatos, a researcher at the New England Aquarium, in an interview with Popular Science. The first step is to catch the shark. Collatos explains that she starts by throwing a piece of fishing bait (饵料). When the shark takes a bite, she pulls it to the side of the boat, where she catches its dorsal fin (背鳍) and wraps rope around its tail. Fixing this position alongside the boat keeps the animal and handler safe. “It’s not moving around, hurting itself, or dangerous for us,” Collatos says. “And once I have that done, it’s much easier to be able to maneuver the fish. So then I can actually just physically turn the shark over.” Turning the shark over will put it in a state similar to drowsiness (昏昏欲睡), called “tonic immobility”. While the exact reason for this is still unknown, researchers like Collatos believe it’s related to sense overload. “It is a very helpful tool when you’re trying to work with the animal and, you know, perform that small surgery on their stomach, because it’s like a natural sedative (镇静剂),” she explains. “If I had to sedate that animal, that would actually cause a much longer recovery process to let that animal go back into the wild. So our tagging process is three to four minutes.” Collatos uses a part anesthetic to plant the internal shark tag, which is about the size of a AA battery. When she completes the process, she turns the shark upright and removes the ropes and hook before setting it free. From start to finish, the shark is usually on the line for only five to ten minutes. 28. What does the underlined word “maneuver” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Feed. B. Study. C. Control. D. Protect. 29. What is special about the shark surgery? A. It needs large tools. B. It uses tonic immobility. C. It lasts over 10 minutes. D. It requires many doctors. 30. Why is the natural sedation better? A. It avoids longer recovery time. B. It helps the shark fall asleep faster. C. It makes the surgery much simpler. D. It protects the shark from being caught. 31. How is the text developed? A. By telling a story. B. By listing examples. C. By explaining causes. D. By following a surgical process. D For many people, the 40-hour work week can be a tiring thing. But new research supports the idea that the solution isn’t necessarily to focus on improving your mindset (心态), getting a better night’s sleep, or simply putting up with it. It’s changing to a four-day work week. Recently, an international team of sociologists asked more than 140 companies across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland to join in a six-month pilot (试验性的) programme. During that time, their workers changed to a four-day work week with no change in pay or benefits. The early data from the team’s first two trials (试验) — including nearly 33 companies taking part — was clear. None of the companies said they were necessarily against maintaining the four-day week, and they reported increases in workplace productivity as well as in income. Meanwhile, workers said less stress and burnout, along with general improvements in physical and mental well-being. According to the study’s organisers, these results came as no surprise. The study’s authors explained that a key method to ensure manageable workloads over fewer hours was to cut out largely unnecessary meetings. Instead, workers depended more on phone calls, messaging platforms, and other communication tools. Beyond changing work processes, another improvement to efficiency came from how workers used their extra day off. People often used this third day for personal small jobs and doctor’s visits — tasks they once struggled to fit into a 40-hour work week. They also had more time for hobbies, housework, and personal care — all of which help improve mindset and health. For companies, benefits included lower healthcare costs and reduced worker turnover. “Not losing highly trained persons — in fields like healthcare or teaching — to stress and burnout is certainly a worthwhile goal,” said Juliet Schor, a sociologist. “At a time when many bosses struggle to fill positions, the four-day week can be positioned as a key benefit.” 32. What’s the solution to the tiring work week according to the text? A. Better sleep. B. Harder work. C. The four-day work week. D. Mindset improvement. 33. What can be inferred about the trials? A. They were fruitful. B. They failed finally. C. Only workers benefited. D. Companies felt unsatisfied. 34. What does Juliet Schor probably agree with? A. Stress causes position cuts. B. Four-day week helps hiring. C. Workers need more training. D. Bosses dislike the new work style. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. A new work week trial. B. Ways to reduce work stress. C. How to improve productivity. D. Benefits of good mindset. Many teachers say that they don’t often receive information from parents about problems at home. Over the past one and a half years, he has worked as a part-time DoorDash delivery driver. After retiring, he still needs to cover daily living costs and pay for regular medicine, so he takes this job to make ends meet. Every morning, he sets out early and travels around local streets. He carries food orders and hurries from one home to another, often working for long hours even when he feels tired. One ordinary afternoon, a small mistake brought a big change to his life. Joe was busy with many orders and accidentally delivered food to the wrong address. The house belonged to Alyona Dikiy, who was busy tidying up her garage (车库) at that moment. She noticed the elderly man standing at her door, looking a little lost. She walked up to him and started a warm chat. She was really shocked when she found out this hard-working delivery man was already 71 years old and still stuck to his busy work every day. During their talk, Joe shared his real feelings. The delivery job was gradually becoming too tough for his body. He had to climb stairs many times a day, which made him feel tired. Worse still, he had fallen down several times while delivering orders. His honest words touched Alyona deeply. She gave him 100 dollars right away and warmly advised him to go home and have a good rest for the rest of the day. Alyona did not stop her kind acts. With Joe’s full permission, she posted a short video of their meeting online and started a fundraising campaign. At first, donations came in slowly. But soon, more and more people learned about Joe’s story. Kind people from all over the world sent their donations and sincere wishes. Within just a few days, the total money raised climbed past 40,000 dollars. Joe was greatly moved by the kindness from so many strangers. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For Alyona, the experience became a reminder that kindness still exists everywhere. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026年春季学期高一校内期末学业水平质量检测 英语 (试卷满分:150分,考试时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. What time is it now? The Importance of Specialized Care 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. C 27. 根据第二段中的“Arias gave birth to her daughter, Zaylynn, who weighed just over one pound and was in need of advanced special care. However, the hospital does not offer the specialized care premature babies require.(阿里亚斯生下女儿扎林,她体重仅一磅多,需要高级特殊护理。然而,这家医院无法提供早产儿所需的专业护理)”可知,母女面临的主要难题是医院缺少早产儿专业救治护理。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的““We had five or six people out at the nurses’ station calling hospital networks all over the state of Texas,” said Meredith Schubert, the labour and delivery nurse on duty when Arias arrived. “Nobody could answer our cry for help.”(当班产科护士梅雷迪思・舒伯特说:“我们五六个人在护士站联系得州全州各大医院网络,没人回应我们的求助。”)” 根据倒数第二段中“Zaylynn was transferred to Dell Children’s, where there is a Level IV newborn ICU.(扎林被转送至戴尔儿童医院,该院设有四级新生儿重症监护室)”以及最后一段中的“Schubert said, “It was a huge relief and a sense of achievement and joy that Zaylynn finally got to the place where she needed to be.”(舒伯特说:“扎林终于抵达了她该去的救治地点,这让我们无比宽慰,心中充满成就感与喜悦。”)” 通读全文,并结合第一段中的“The life of a premature(早产的) baby born during the winter storm in Texas was saved thanks to a team of medical professionals, including a doctor and two nurses who travelled from East Austin to Marble Falls in an effort to save a newborn baby’s life.(一名在得州冬季风暴期间早产的婴儿得以获救,这要归功于一组医护人员,一名医生和两名护士从东奥斯汀赶往马布尔福尔斯,竭尽全力挽救新生儿生命)”可知,全文围绕医护团队不畏风雪、通力协作挽救早产婴儿生命展开,因此最佳标题为“一支团队拯救生命的努力”。 C When large animals like bears require operations, doctors depend on anesthesia (麻醉) to keep both the animal and medical team safe. C 29. B 30. A 31. 根据文章第三段中的“Fixing this position alongside the boat keeps the animal and handler safe. ‘It’s not moving around, hurting itself, or dangerous for us,’ Collatos says. ‘And once I have that done, it’s much easier to be able to maneuver the fish. So then I can actually just physically turn the shark over.’ (把鲨鱼固定在船边的位置可以保证动物和工作人员的安全。‘它不会四处乱动、伤害自己,也不会对我们构成危险,’Collatos说。‘一旦我完成了这一步,就能更容易地______这条鱼了。然后我就可以直接把它翻个身。’)”可知,将鲨鱼固定住不让它乱动,是为了更好地“控制”它以便进行后续操作。C选项“Control.(控制)”与划线词意思相近,符合题意。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段中的“Turning the shark over will put it in a state similar to drowsiness, called ‘tonic immobility’. (把鲨鱼翻过来会使它进入一种类似于昏昏欲睡的状态,被称为‘强直静止’。)”以及第五段中的“because it’s like a natural sedative (因为它就像一种天然的镇静剂)”可知,鲨鱼手术的特殊之处在于它利用了“强直静止”这一自然状态来代替传统的麻醉。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第五段中的“If I had to sedate that animal, that would actually cause a much longer recovery process to let that animal go back into the wild. So our tagging process is three to four minutes. A. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Joe was greatly moved by the kindness from so many strangers. He never dreamed that people across the globe would care so much about an ordinary elderly delivery worker. He expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who offered help, saying he had never met such warm-hearted people before. The donations eased his financial pressure a lot, so he decided to cut down his working hours and take better care of his health. He regarded Alyona as his guardian angel and believed this small accident was a precious gift from life. For Alyona, the experience became a reminder that kindness still exists everywhere. She kept in touch with Joe later and was happy to know he no longer rushed around for endless orders. Joe still took a few easy tasks now and then to keep himself busy, but he no longer pushed his aging body too hard. Many people online were also inspired by their story and began to do small kind things for others. Alyona hoped such warmth would keep spreading, and everyone could give a hand to people going through difficulties. 3. 词类激活: 行为类: ①减轻(压力):ease / relieve / reduce ②保持联系:keep in touch with / stay in contact with 情绪类: ①真诚的:sincere/heartfelt ②受到鼓舞的:inspired/motivated 【点睛】【高分句型1】He expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who offered help, saying he had never met such warm-hearted people before. 2】Alyona hoped such warmth would keep spreading, and everyone could give a hand to people going through difficulties.(运用了省略that的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
