Passage1
Do you enjoy chocolate or other sweets? If so, you are not alone—most young people do. We all know that sugar is bad for our teeth. It can lead to a toothache and other tooth problems. But recently, scientists have shared some surprising new information: sugar may also be harmful to our eyes. In fact, eating too much sugar can make our eyesight (视力) much worse.
How does this happen? Scientists explain it in a simple way. When we eat foods that are high in sugar, the outer wall of our eyeball becomes weak and soft. As a result, the eye grows longer and changes shape, much like a balloon.
That could cause serious health problems. If the eye grows too long, an important part at the back, called the retina , becomes very thin. This means you might need to wear very strong glasses to see clearly.
So what should we do to protect our eyes? We all want to keep our eyes bright and healthy. Here are some simple steps everyone can take. First, try to eat fewer sweets and cakes. Second, eat more eye-friendly food like carrots and eggs. They are known to help our eyes stay strong. Let’s take action to keep our vision clear for years to come.
1.But recently, scientists have shared some surprising new information: sugar may also be harmful to our eyes.

Passage2
In the rushing modern society, it can be all too easy to skip (不吃) a meal or two. You might even do it on purpose. A new study suggests going without one of the standard three meals a day might have a serious downside.
24, 000 people participated in the study. Around 30 percent of the participants often had fewer than three meals a day. According to the data, those who were younger, male, with less of an education and a lower family income, were more likely to skip meals. Meal-skipping was also more common among those who smoked more, drank more, ate less healthy food, had more snacks, and took in less energy overall.
Compared with participants eating three meals per day, the risk for participants eating one meal per day was 30% higher for all-cause death, and 83% higher for cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) death. Those who ate two meals a day had a 7% increased risk of all-cause death and a 10% increased risk of cardiovascular death.
The CVD death rate of the participants who skipped breakfast was 40% higher compared with those who did not. The all-cause death risk was 12% higher for skipping lunch and 16% higher for skipping dinner compared with those who did not. Skipping breakfast was connected with a greater risk of dying from CVD, while skipping lunch or dinner was connected with a greater risk of all-cause death, including a rise in CVD risk.
There was even a problem for those who ate all three meals but had them too close together. Eating two neighbouring meals within 4.5 hours of each other was also shown to be connected with increased all-cause death risk. While the study seems to make messages difficult that suggest intermittent fasting (间歇性禁食) could be good for you, the data stresses the importance of regular refueling stops for the body.
1.A new study suggests going without one of the standard three meals a day might have a serious downside.
主句主语为a new study,谓语为suggests;后面省略that的宾语从句作宾语。从句中 going without...
2. According to the data, those who were younger, male, with less of an education and a lower family income, were more likely to skip meals.
主干为those were more likely to skip meals;插入多个形容词和介词短语说明人群特征;固定结构 be likely to do(有可能做某事)为高频写作短语。
3.Skipping breakfast was connected with a greater risk of dying from CVD, while skipping lunch or dinner was connected with a greater risk of all-cause death.
作主语;固定搭配 be connected with(与……有关)、die from(死于……)

Passage1
The five-second rule is a popular idea that says if your food falls on the floor, it’s still safe to eat as long as you pick it up within five seconds. But is this true?
Scientists have tested the five-second rule, and most of them agree that it’s not a good guideline (指导原则) on food safety. How long the food stays on the floor doesn’t matter as much as two other things: what kind of food it is and where it lands. For example, wet foods, like fruits, are easier to get dirty. They pick up more bacteria (细菌) than dry foods, like biscuits. This is because bacteria can travel more easily in water.
The floor surface also makes a difference. Scientists have done tests on different floor surfaces, like metal, tiles (瓷砖), and carpets (地毯), to see which one lets bacteria get on food the most. Guess what? Food that fell on carpets picked up the fewest bacteria. This is because carpets have small fibers (纤维) that don’t let food touch much of their surface, while smooth surfaces like tiles have a bigger area for bacteria to get on the food.
However, picking up food quickly can still help keep it cleaner, because the longer it stays on the floor, the more chances there are for bacteria to get on it. But even if it’s just for a second, some bacteria can still get on the food. This makes the five-second rule a questionable practice for making sure food is safe to eat.
1.What’s the five-second rule about?
A.Food safety. B.Food waste. C.Food business. D.Food production.
2.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Dry foods are safer to eat.
B.The floor surface makes food dirty.
C.Bacteria can make food taste worse.
D.Wet foods are easier to get dirty than dry foods.
3.Which floor surface makes food pick up the fewest bacteria?
A.Tiles. B.Metal. C.Carpets. D.Wood.
4.What does the passage mainly tell us about the five-second rule?
A.It shows how to pick up food quickly.
B.It’s not useful for keeping food clean at all.
C.It works best on food that falls on a wet floor.
D.It’s not a good way to decide if food is safe to eat.
5.What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To explain a fun fact. B.To correct a wrong opinion.
C.To share an interesting story. D.To describe a new invention.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.D 5.B
文章第一段提到“The five-second rule is a popular idea that says...it’s still safe to eat...”,直接说明五秒法则与食物安全有关。
2.文章第二段提到“For example, wet foods, like fruits, are easier to get dirty. They pick up more bacteria...than dry foods...This is because...”,其中“This”承接前文,指代“湿食物比干食物更容易变脏”。
3.文章第三段提到“Food that fell on carpets picked up the fewest bacteria.”,明确指出地毯使食物沾染的细菌最少。
4.文章最后一段提到“This makes the five-second rule a questionable practice for making sure food is safe to eat.”,总结全文表明五秒法则并非判断食物安全的可靠方法。
Passage2
Science shows that following a healthy diet rich in plant foods is a key to long-term health. This way of eating can lower your chance of getting serious illnesses like heart disease and cancer (癌症).
While many foods in this diet are healthy, some are called “Super foods” because they have lots of important nutrients (营养素). Experts suggest trying to include some of these foods in your meals every day.
Here is a simple guide to these powerful foods:
Fatty fish are a great source of protein (蛋白质) and special healthy fats. These fats are very important for keeping your heart healthy and can help blood flow better.
Eating nuts regularly or using olive oil in cooking—both of which contain healthy fats—can lower your risk of heart problems and support good blood pressure. This is an easy way to prevent serious diseases.
Yogurt is necessary for daily meals, as it contains “good bacteria (细菌)” that help your body digest (消化) food better and can help you absorb nutrients, reducing stomach problems.
Beans and peas are a great plant-based source of protein and fiber (纤维). Studies show they can help fight heart disease and also keep blood sugar levels steady, which is good for your energy.
Eating different kinds of these super foods can help you build a strong base for your overall health and well-being.
1.What health benefits do fatty fish and beans both have?
A.They have the most protein. B.They are good for heart health.
C.They have special fats for heart health. D.They are the only foods with fats.
2.What does the underlined “This” refer to?
A.Eating nuts or using olive oil. B.Reducing heart problems.
C.Controlling blood pressure. D.Containing healthy fats.
3.What good thing do the bacteria in yogurt do?
A.They help blood flow better. B.They kill bad bacteria.
C.They keep blood sugar levels steady. D.They are good for stomach health.
4.Where can you most probably read this passage?
A.In a health magazine. B.In a fictional novel.
C.In a physics textbook. D.In a travel guide.
5.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Following a long-term diet B.The Key to Fight Heart Disease
C.A Guide to Healthy Super foods D.Understanding Different Types of Foods

Passage4
Healthy Eating in Chinese Culture
In China, food does more than just taste good—it helps keep us healthy and balanced. Chinese food wisdom teaches us three simple but smart ways to 1 : follow the seasons, use food as medicine, and don’t eat too much. These 2 help our bodies stay healthy all year round.
Eating with the Seasons
Chinese cooking changes with the seasons to match 3 our bodies need. When spring comes, we eat fresh green vegetables to help our bodies 4 up after winter. In the hot summer months, cooling foods like watermelon help us stay comfortable. As autumn arrives, sweet pears prepare our bodies for colder days. And when 5 comes, hot meals keep us warm inside. Eating this way helps our bodies stay in balance with nature’s changes.
Food 6 Medicine
Many common foods in China are also used to keep people healthy. Ginger (生姜) helps when your stomach feels upset, while goji berries (枸杞) give you natural energy. Garlic (大蒜) and chili peppers are good for your blood and can help fight colds, 7 even simple foods like green tea are used to make people feel better. Food in China isn’t just for eating—it’s 8 staying well.
The Golden Rule: Don’t Eat Too Much
The most important rule is simple—eat just enough. Eating too much makes you feel tired and can make you sick. Not eating enough makes you 9 . Chinese people believe the right amount of good food keeps your body strong and healthy.
By eating seasonal foods, choosing healthy ingredients, and stopping when you’re full, 10 can enjoy these health benefits (益处)!

A.Tiles. B.Metal. C.Carpets. D.Wood.
