Step 1: Create your Turnitin assignment by selecting the plus icon on your module content and select External Apps from the menu. Step 2: Select Turnitin: Create assignment in Ultra from the list. Step 3: Enter a title, maximum points, the start date, due date, and feedback release date. ● Settings for Assignment details Title: Name the assignment something clear and descriptive. Instructions: You can use the instructions area to provide information or directions that are specific to this assignment, for example, if you want students to use their student number as the name of the work when they upload it. Max Grade: If you are using the default grading system, set the max grade as “23”. If you are using Turnitin for formative work, or paper similarity checking, then you may wish to enter 0 as the max grade. Dates: The start date is when students can start to submit work, and it will also automatically hide the assignment from student view until that date. The feedback release date should be three weeks after the due date, for work that is being formally marked. 21. What is Turnitin used for? A. Scanning assignments. B. Tracking academic progress. C. B A local grocery store here has been remodelled and not a single one of the changes is good for those of us who shop there. The grocery aisles have been rearranged with some going in one direction and others going in another. The aisles have been pushed closer together, making it harder to get through them. It seems like all of these changes have been for the purpose of slowing the shoppers down so they will make more impulse buys. As I walked through the store today, no one was smiling and everyone was unhappy about it. The change that bothered me the most, however, was in the check-out aisles. Only a few cashiers were left working with huge sections changed into self-scanning check-outs. It saddened me to see this. I knew that people were probably going to lose their jobs because of this change. I got in a cashier aisle and patiently waited while I saw some other people struggling to figure out how the self-scanning machines worked. I swore at that moment never to use one myself even if I had to wait longer every time I shopped there. When I finally arrived at the front of the aisle, I saw the cashier was someone I knew. I greeted her with a smile. She smiled back with warmth and kindness that touched my soul. We chatted happily while she scanned and bagged up my groceries. I felt a friendship and a connection with her that warmed my heart. I wished her well before I left. Machines can do a lot for us, but there are many things they can't do. They can't smile or love. Only we can do that. It is time that we should realize that profits aren't more important than people and that machines aren't more important than us. It is time that we should learn that loving each other and this world is what life is all about. 24. What may account for the store's changes? A. To make more profits. B. To satisfy the shoppers. C. To offer more products. D. To make shopping easier. 25. What's the result of the use of self-scanning machines according to the author? A. It will attract more customers. B. It has reduced the cashiers' burden. C. It has brought shopper more convenience. D. It will make many people unemployed. 26. How did the author feel when he met the cashier? A. Calm. B. Glad. C. Angry. D. Surprised. 27. What's the best title for the text? A. Machines or Us? B. Why Use Machines? C. Are Changes Necessary? D. How Does the World Change? C It’s Monday morning again. Like many others, you spend your weekend resting, say, scrolling on your phone, but somehow when the workweek arrives, you never feel as refreshed as you hoped. You wonder: Is there a better way to recharge? Now research suggests the answer is “yes” and it lies in leisure crafting. Leisure crafting is not about what you do in your free time, but how you do it. It involves structuring things you already enjoy doing with intentionality so that they help you set individual goals, promote social connections, and build skills. The idea is not to completely shift your approach to free time — or even pick up new pursuits-as much as it is to integrate a few specific goals. Like to run? Try training for a race. Enjoy reading? Aim to read a certain number of books every month. Setting goals in off-hours looks like another example of letting work-brain logic inch its way into personal lives. But done right, it can help you feel a sense of purpose, confidence, and accomplishment, says Alex Hamrick, a management professor at the University of Richmond. Researchers did 11 field studies with more than 2,400 working professionals and found that individuals reported higher energy levels, more positive moods, and stronger overall well-being after engaging in leisure crafting. While leisure crafting requires commitment and goal-setting, it is still simply that: leisure. The goal is not to turn hobbies into a second job. Research has shown that people’s productivity tends to stop increasing at 60 hours a week. Expanding the hours spent maximizing output, even in pursuit of perfecting your cooking techniques or reading detective novels, could make you more tired. Hamrick agrees that if purposeful pursuits start to feel like work, it might be time to stop. Leisure crafting should enhance-not replace-other forms of relaxation. A recent government guide to getting off your phone included the suggestion of setting a recreational goal as a diversion from the screen. Beyond all the grander reasons to leisure craft, that simple one may be among the most relevant. 28. What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph? A. Lack of effective ways to rest. B. Working through the weekend. C. Addiction to playing on phones. D. Feeling worried about the future. 29. Which of the following is the main feature of leisure crafting? A. Shifting your life focus. B. Extending your free time. C. Acting with a purpose. D. Taking up new hobbies. 30. What is paragraph 3 mainly about concerning leisure crafting? A. Its approaches. B. Its purposes. C. Its benefits. D. Its examples. 31. Why does the author mention the research in paragraph 4? A. To argue against setting unrealistic goals. B. To warn against overdoing leisure crafting. C. To explain why commitment is vital for success. D. To prove how leisure crafting improves efficiency. D You go on a beach trip or look out the airplane window, and you could swear the ocean is looking a bit teal. Is the ocean getting greener? It is, according to a recent study in Nature. “The ocean is getting greener because there is more phytoplankton (浮游植物), which contain the pigment chlorophyll (光合色素) that absorbs blue and red light,” said Chris Robbins, associate director of science at the Ocean Conservancy. Moreover, over the past 20 years, there has been a significant greening of the oceans, according to the study. The likely contributor is greenhouse gas emissions. “Emissions are heating up the ocean, resulting in a sharper temperature differential that is dividing the ocean into a shallower warm layer and deeper cold layer,” Robbins explained, “This prevents the transfer of nutrients from the ocean depths to surface waters where phytoplankton live,” he explained. Having fewer nutrients could favor phytoplankton species, meaning they gather at the surface and make the ocean appear greener. However, this greening isn’t dangerous to people. “There is no indication that the increases in phytoplankton species causing the greening effect are harmful,” Robbins said. Scientists are still trying to figure out what this green trend might mean for fish and other sea life. “It could hurt some species while benefiting others,” Robbins said. “If the newly dominant algae (藻类) cannot be eaten by animals that rely on algae for food, there could be spread effects, with some species losing and some winning,” Robbins added. “It could reorganize predator — prey dynamics.” If certain in-demand fish don’t fare well in this new Hunger Games scenario, it could mean a seafood shortage. “If we want to reverse the shift and the changes in the ocean’s ecosystem, we need to focus on replacing fossil fuels with clean energy,” Robbins said. In addition, scientists are working to pinpoint the exact changes in the ocean. Ongoing studies could shed more light on what else is going on under the sea and how it will ultimately impact all of us. 32. What accounts for the greener ocean? A. The sharp decline in marine biodiversity. B. The huge expansion of algae near coasts. C. The massive nutrient transfer between oceans. D. The growing surface algae due to greenhouse gases. 33. Which of the following best describes the impact of ocean greening? A. Destructive. B. Uncertain. C. Harmless. D. Beneficial. 34. What does Robbins suggest about reversing ocean ecosystem changes? A. Switching to clean energy. B. Using more fossil fuels. C. Reducing ocean pollution. D. Controlling ocean greening. 35. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the passage? A. To promote the use of clean energy. B. To advocate marine life protection. C. To explore the greening of the ocean. D. To propose solutions to ocean pollution. In life, we make many decisions that define who we truly are. Fat clumps (簇) of white, like a million cotton balls, landed on our car and stuck there. Unlike our usual chatty trips, the car was quiet. Cody had a high fever at Grandma’s house that afternoon. Grandma lived in a remote village with no easy medical help, so we had to rush back to the city to see a doctor. In the hour since we’d left Grandma’s house, the weather was worse. “It’s getting harder to see anything,” Dad whispered to Mom. Mom nodded, glancing back at Cody worriedly. “The forecast mentioned snow showers, but this looks more serious.” I pressed my face against the cold window. A car followed us closely behind. On the passenger seat was a medical kit with a faint white cross. Doctors often use such bags for home visits, but I didn’t know the driver was a doctor then. Suddenly, our car slid to the side. My heart pounded. Dad managed to straighten the wheel and stay on the road. “We need to drive off and wait out this storm. Cody will get worse in this condition. But I can barely see the road, let alone an exit,” Dad said. “Dad, a sign!” I shouted. High in the sky, the sign of a restaurant blinked (闪烁): EAT HERE. “Are you sure, Kenny?” Dad asked and slowly pulled over to check. Then, through the thick snow, I saw the lights of that car coming up behind us. It slowed down and stopped aside ours. Its window rolled down. “Need help?” The driver leaned out and asked. “Do you know how to get there?” Dad pointed to the sign and said urgently. “I’m heading there, too. Aiming to raise students’ awareness of sports, the activity started at the school gate and finished at the City Square, covering 20 km. All sports lovers competed fiercely as soon as the match began. Though several cyclists were tired, they still tried their best to keep up with the main team. Through one-hour cycling, all reached the finishing line safely. All the participants were excited to take part in the event, saying that they hope to join in more activities like this. Have you got similar events that you can tell me about? Thanks to his guidance, we smoothly found the exit and pulled into the restaurant’s parking lot. Upon arriving, Dad immediately carried Cody inside. “Without your help, I can’t imagine what would have happened,” Dad said in a trembling voice. “My younger son is suffering from a high fever.” Hearing this, the driver replied calmly, “Don’t worry. I am a doctor.” Then he went out and returned with his medical kit. Immediately, the driver opened his medical kit and checked Cody. He took Cody’s temperature, checked his chest and looked at his throat with a flashlight. The whole process witnessed his professional and considerate care for my sick brother. Finally, he gave Cody some medicine and said, “The medicine will work soon. He will be fine.” Hearing what he said, we were greatly relieved and grateful. Despite the cold snow outside, warmth flowed through our hearts. It was that night that I realized kindness can melt even the heaviest snowstorm. 1. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In life, we make many decisions that define who we truly are. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 “I’m heading there, too. What does the speaker say is cool about card game competitions? A. It shows the effects of pressure on thinking. B. It separates thinking from everything else. C. It shows the consequences of decisions. 20. What is the main idea of the talk? A. Life choices are hard to make. B. Games should be about having fun. C. Pressure affects thinking in games. 【答案】18. B 19. B 20. C 【原文】M: When I was young, I used to play card games. Unlike many people, I didn’t play for fun, but competed in competitions. Hundreds of players go to a large building, usually a hotel, and play against each other with strict rules. I did this until I was a teenager. The competition was strong. The interesting thing about playing card games in competitions is how the watching crowd affects your ability to make decisions. Card games are all about thinking about moves. This is something we all have to do every day. The cool thing about card games is that they keep your thoughts away from everything else. It is pure thinking. But, in competitions, people make simple mistakes that would seem crazy when playing for fun. In real life, we don’t get to see our decisions and their results so clearly as with card games. However, people watching and judging your moves affects your thinking more than you can imagine. For me, that is the real lesson of card games. It is a lesson I still remember as an adult. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Turnitin is an assessment tool to check similarity for text-based submissions. Yes.(提交的内容会是以典型的纯文本格式呈现的吗?是)”及“1 student,1 submission(一个学生,一次提交)”可知,提交内容是标准文本格式的文本类内容,单个学生的独立提交。故选B项。 23.细节理解题。根据Instructions部分“You can use the instructions area to provide information or directions that are specific to this assignment, for example, if you want students to use their student number as the name of the work when they upload it.(您可以利用Instructions区域来提供与本次作业相关的特定信息或说明,例如,如果您希望学生在上传作业时使用其学号作为作业的名称)”可知,说明栏Instructions区域可以用于填写作业布置的具体要求。故选B项。 B A local grocery store here has been remodelled and not a single one of the changes is good for those of us who shop there. 【答案】24. A 25. D 26. B 27. A 【分析】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章主要说明了为了获取更大的利润,商店改变了以往宽松的布局,这让作者很难过。作者认为商店里无人化的机器操作让生活缺少温暖和爱,呼吁人们要认识到人比机器更重要。 24.推理判断题。根据第一段中“It seems like all of these changes have been for the purpose of slowing the shoppers down so they will make more impulse buys.(似乎所有这些变化都是为了让购物者放慢速度,这样他们就会冲动购物)”以及最后一段中“It is time that we should realize that profits aren't more important than people and that machines aren't more important than us.(现在我们应该认识到利润并不比人重要,机器也不比我们重要)”可推知,商店的改变是为了获得更多的利润。故选A。 25.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Only a few cashiers were left working with huge sections changed into self-scanning check-outs. It saddened me to see this. I knew that people were probably going to lose their jobs because of this change.(只有少数收银员还在工作,大部分变成了自动扫描的结账台。看到这个我很难过。我知道人们可能会因为这一变化而失去工作)”可知,作者认为,使用自动扫描机的结果是它将使许多人失业。故选D。 26.推理判断题。根据第三段“When I finally arrived at the front of the aisle, I saw the cashier was someone I knew. I greeted her with a smile. She smiled back with warmth and kindness that touched my soul. We chatted happily while she scanned and bagged up my groceries. I felt a friendship and a connection with her that warmed my heart. I wished her well before I left.(当我终于走到过道前面时,我看到收银员是我认识的人。我微笑着和她打招呼。她对我报以温暖而亲切的微笑,那微笑感动了我的灵魂。当她扫描并打包我的杂货时,我们愉快地聊着天。我感到与她的友谊和联系温暖了我的心。我在离开前向她祝好。)”可推知,作者遇到收银员,觉得很高兴。故选B。 27.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Machines can do a lot for us, but there are many things they can't do. They can't smile or love. Only we can do that. It is time that we should realize that profits aren't more important than people and that machines aren't more important than us. It is time that we should learn that loving each other and this world is what life is all about.(机器可以为我们做很多事情,但也有许多事情他们不能做。 A。 C It’s Monday morning again. 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. C 31. B 【导语】本文主要介绍了休闲规划这一概念,包括其定义、特点、益处以及实施时的注意事项。 28.细节理解题。根据第一段“Like many others, you spend your weekend resting, say, scrolling on your phone, but somehow when the workweek arrives, you never feel as refreshed as you hoped. You wonder: Is there a better way to recharge? (和许多人一样,你周末休息,比如刷手机,但不知为何,当工作日到来时,你从未感到像自己希望的那样精神焕发。你想知道:有没有更好的恢复精力的方法?)”可知,第一段描述的现象是缺乏有效的休息方式。 29.细节理解题。根据第二段“Leisure crafting is not about what you do in your free time, but how you do it. It involves structuring things you already enjoy doing with intentionality so that they help you set individual goals, promote social connections, and build skills. (休闲规划不在于你在空闲时间做什么,而在于你如何做。它涉及以有意图的方式构建你已经喜欢做的事情,以便它们帮助你设定个人目标、促进社交联系和培养技能。)”可知,休闲规划的主要特点是有目的地行动。 30.主旨大意题。根据第三段“Researchers did 11 field studies with more than 2,400 working professionals and found that individuals reported higher energy levels, more positive moods, and stronger overall well-being after engaging in leisure crafting. (研究人员对2400多名职场人士进行了11项实地研究,发现参与休闲规划后,个人的能量水平更高、情绪更积极、整体幸福感更强。)”可知,第三段主要讲的是休闲规划的益处。 31.推理判断题。根据第四段“While leisure crafting requires commitment and goal-setting, it is still simply that: leisure. The goal is not to turn hobbies into a second job. Research has shown that people’s productivity tends to stop increasing at 60 hours a week. Expanding the hours spent maximizing output, even in pursuit of perfecting your cooking techniques or reading detective novels, could make you more tired. (虽然休闲规划需要投入和设定目标,但它仍然只是休闲。目标不是把爱好变成第二份工作。研究表明,人们的工作效率在一周60小时后往往会停止增长。即使是为了完善烹饪技巧或阅读侦探小说而延长工作时间,也可能会让你更累。)”可知,作者提到第四段的研究是为了警告不要过度进行休闲规划。 D You go on a beach trip or look out the airplane window, and you could swear the ocean is looking a bit teal. 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. A 35. C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了海洋变绿的现象、原因、影响以及应对建议。 32.细节理解题。根据第三段“The likely contributor is greenhouse gas emissions. (可能的原因是温室气体排放。罗宾斯解释说:“排放正在使海洋升温,导致更大的温差,将海洋分为较浅的暖层和较深的冷层。这阻止了营养物质从海洋深处转移到浮游植物生长的表层水域。”更少的营养物质有利于浮游植物物种,这意味着它们聚集在海面上,使海洋看起来更绿。)”可知,温室气体导致海洋表层藻类增多,进而使海洋变绿。故选D项。 33.推理判断题。根据第四段“Scientists are still trying to figure out what this green trend might mean for fish and other sea life. “It could hurt some species while benefiting others,” Robbins said. (科学家们仍在努力弄清楚这种绿色趋势对鱼类和其他海洋生物意味着什么。罗宾斯说:“这可能会伤害一些物种,同时使另一些物种受益。”)”可知,海洋变绿的影响是不确定的。故选B项。 34.细节理解题。根据最后一段““If we want to reverse the shift and the changes in the ocean’s ecosystem, we need to focus on replacing fossil fuels with clean energy,” Robbins said. (罗宾斯说:“如果我们想扭转海洋生态系统的转变和变化,我们需要专注于用清洁能源取代化石燃料。”)”可知,罗宾斯建议用清洁能源取代化石燃料来扭转海洋生态系统的变化。故选A项。 35.推理判断题。根据第一段“You go on a beach trip or look out the airplane window, and you could swear the ocean is looking a bit teal. Is the ocean getting greener? It is, according to a recent study in Nature. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 “I’m heading there, too. Follow me!” He shouted. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Immediately, the driver opened his medical kit and checked Cody. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 “I’m heading there, too. Follow me!” He shouted. The driver drove slowly ahead, flashing his lights to guide us through the thick snow. 词汇激活 行为类 ①指引:guide/navigate ②检查:check/inspect ③给予:give/administer 情绪类 ①感激的:grateful/appreciative ②宽慰的:relieved/comforted 【点睛】【高分句型1】The driver drove slowly ahead, flashing his lights to guide us through the thick snow.(运用了现在分词结构作伴随状语) 【高分句型2】It was that night that I realized kindness can melt even the heaviest snowstorm.(运用了It was...that...引导的强调句) 试卷第1页,共3页 21 / 21 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
