Nowadays, many people are caught up in busy work and study. They often feel stressed and have no time to enjoy life. If you are facing the same problem, here are some practical tips to help you slow down and live a more relaxing life.
Unplug regularly.
Set aside some time every day to turn off your phone, laptop and TV. You can use this quiet time to read a book, take a walk outdoors, or just sit quietly and think. This helps you stay away from pressure.
Practice mindful eating.
When you eat meals, you should keep away from all distractions. Put down your phone, turn off the TV and pay full attention to your food. Chew slowly and enjoy the tastes carefully.
Take micro-breaks.
During the day, you can take 5-10 minute breaks to stretch your body, take a deep breath or look out of the window. These short pauses help you relax and keep your energy.
Learn to say no politely.
You don’t need to accept every request. You don’t have to say yes to every request or opportunity. Instead, be selective about how you spend your time and energy. Focus on the tasks and relationships that truly bring you joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose.
Embrace doing nothing.

A 25-year-old pop science blogger, Zheng, known as the "Cloud Collector" on Xiaohongshu, started her account in 2022 to share photos of clouds. She finds joy in recording daily beauty and considers this a way to spread lovely moments. For her, clouds have always been a source of comfort.
One of her most unforgettable experiences happened during a flight when she saw a “glory” for the first time. This natural phenomenon, produced by water drops, appeared as a hazy (模糊的) light point within a circular rainbow halo (光环), which was a great surprise to her.
As more online users showed interest and asked questions, Zheng realized she could provide more scientific content about clouds. She began learning by referring to specialized books and consulting people with knowledge in meteorology (气象学).
She has now shared nearly 200 pieces of popular science content, covering cloud identification, formation, comparisons of different types, and weather-related knowledge. Her account has gained over 210,000 followers on Xiaohongshu. The platform also hosts five group chats where thousands of users share their daily cloud-watching experiences.
Looking ahead, Zheng plans to hold gallery exhibitions. The first round is scheduled for Xiamen in Fujian and Chengdu in Sichuan. She is currently gathering more cloud photos and their unique stories. Through these efforts, she hopes to inspire more people to appreciate the beauty of the "gentle white giants" in the sky.
24. What does the text say about the “glory” that Zheng saw on the flight?
A. It is a phenomenon caused by ice crystals in the air.
B. It made Zheng feel disappointed because it was unclear.
C. It was something Zheng had observed many times before.
D. It appeared as a hazy light point inside a round rainbow halo.

C. She turned to specialized books.
D. She organized gallery exhibitions.
26. The underlined phrase “gentle white giants” in the last paragraph most likely refers to ______.
A. clouds
B. cloud photos
C. gallery exhibitions
D. circular rainbow halos
27. Which of the following words can best describe Zheng?

B. Passive and hesitant.
C. Active and willing.

If you spend time away from home, you may write emails, text messages or letters to your loved ones to share your life and feelings. However, you may not fully understand the common English expression “nothing to write home about” and its special cultural and historical contexts.
Suppose your friend asks if you have tried the new noodle pizza called pizzoodle. You can answer, “I have, and honestly, it’s nothing to write home about.” This means the food is not special or enjoyable at all. It is not worth the price or the long wait in line, and it cannot bring you any surprise or happiness. In other words, this phrase describes things that are not wonderful or worthy of praise.
Language experts believe the phrase first appeared among military members. In the past, people like soldiers and travelers often lived far away from home. They had few ways to communicate with their family, so they usually wrote home to share great and exciting news. If an experience was common and boring, there was no need to write home about it.
As time went by, it spread quickly and became popular in English-speaking countries. Today, it remains widely used in daily life to express mild disappointment. When something is just so-so but not terrible, you can use this idiom to express your opinions in a simple and humorous way.
28. Which of the following has “nothing to write home about”?
A. A terrible movie that annoyed you.
B. Boring song without any special features.
C. An exciting trip you will never forget.
D. A fantastic gift you have always wanted.
29. What inspired the appearance of the idiom “nothing to write home about”?
A. The popularity of modern social media.
B. The need to write letters home in the past.
C. The story of a special food named pizzoodle.
D. The development of English-speaking countries.
30. Who first used the phrase according to language experts?
A. Students. B. Experts.
C. Soldiers. D. Teachers.
31. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. The meaning, origin and use of an English idiom.
B. Different ways to express disappointment in English.
C. How to use the word “pizzoodle” in daily conversations.
D. How to communicate with loved ones far away from home.

Julia Christensen, a ballet dancer, often experienced the flow state (心流状态): being fully focused on her movements without other thoughts. Hours could pass without her noticing.
Research shows that being in a flow state can improve performance in sports, music, and other activities, as well as boost creativity and wellbeing. Hungarian psychologist (心理学家) Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, who first used the term, called it “the secret to happiness.”
Csíkszentmihályi started his research in the 1970s. After interviewing hundreds of people about their lives, he found that people’s happiest moments often came when they were deeply focused on what they were doing. The activity itself didn’t matter — it could be swimming, playing music, or doing surgery (手术). What mattered was the feeling of being fully absorbed and in control.
From these interviews, he identified key features of flow: strong concentration, a sense of control, less worry, clear goals, and immediate feedback. Time also seems to change — we may not notice minutes or hours passing.
Flow happens most often when there is a balance between the difficulty of a task and our skills. If a task is too easy, we get bored; if it is too hard, we get stressed. The right balance creates full engagement and enjoyment.
Psychologists have since created a questionnaire (调查问卷) to measure how often people experience flow. They have found that the more nervous someone is, the less likely they are to experience flow, perhaps because they struggle to turn off the inner critic. Studies on twins suggest that genetics (遗传学) explain about 30% of the differences in how often people experience flow. The rest comes from environment, such as upbringing. But which genes are involved is still being studied.
32. What can we know from paragraphs 1 and 2?
A. Julia is an expert in studying flow.
B. Flow state benefits a person’s body.
C. Time seems to move slowly during flow.
D. Flow state leads to improvement in activities.
33. What’s the result of Csíkszentmihályi’s research?
A. Time use accounts for the result.
B. People are happiest when they are resting.
C. The type of activity is the key to happiness.
D. Sense of achievement comes from absorption.
34. What is the necessary condition for people to get into the flow state?
A. Finishing work with others’ help.
B. Balancing task difficulty and personal skills.
C. Doing activities with clear time limits.
D. Taking part in interesting outdoor activities.
35. According to the last paragraph, what affects people’s different experiences of flow?
A. The specific identified genes.
B. The difficulty of the tasks.
C. The different growth environments.
D. The level of focused concentration.

The sea shone brightly under the late summer sun. Emma walked into the cool water, her toes going down the wet sand. Around her neck hung a silver locket (吊坠盒) — her mother’s last gift before she passed away two years ago. Emma remembered the day her mother placed it around her neck, smiling weakly. “Keep this close,” she had whispered. “It holds my love.” Since then, Emma never took it off, even while swimming. It felt like her mother’s hand always resting near her heart.
She swam out a little farther, laughing as the waves washed her face. The sunlight danced on the water, and for a moment, she forgot her sadness. But when she touched her neck, her heart stopped. Her fingers found only bare skin. The chain was broken. The locket was gone.
Panic (恐慌) flooded her chest. She dived (潜水) again and again, eyes stinging with salt and tears, anxiously searching the sandy bottom. Nothing. The water grew darker as the sun moved. Sobbing, she stumbled (踉跄) back to shore and fell onto the beach, burying her face in her hands.
An old fisherman nearby saw her. His face softened. “What’s lost, child?” he asked gently. Emma showed him the broken chain. “My mother’s locket… it’s all I have left of her.”
The man nodded and called to his son, who was fixing nets. Together they rowed out to where Emma pointed. The son tied a rope around his waist (腰部) and dropped into the green water. Minutes passed. Emma held her breath. Then the line pulled. The son came up, coughing, holding a handful of seaweed — nothing else. Emma’s heart grew heavy.

B 15. C 16. B
M: There are some workshops and other activities during the festival. They’ll all take place at least once every day.
W: Good. You don’t happen to have a cookery workshop, do you?
M: We certainly do. It’s going to focus on how to make food part of a healthy lifestyle.
W: That might be worth going to. We’re trying to encourage our children to cook.
M: Another workshop is just for children, and that’s on creating posters to reflect the history of the town. The aim is to make children aware of how the town has changed over the centuries. The results will be shown in the community center. Then the other workshop is on toy-making, and that’s for adults only.
W: Oh, why’s that?
M: Because participants will be making toys out of wood. There’ll be a lot of sharp tools around, though there won’t be much work.
W: It makes sense to keep children away from it.
M: Exactly.

W: Let me tell you all about an amazing Survival Weekend trip with my class. When the bus picked us up from the school gate at 6 in the morning, it was raining heavily, which wasn’t great. However, it hadn’t rained in the forest. That was important because we needed dry places for our first survival activity: building shelters. There were three leaders, each responsible for 10 students. After we were divided into three groups, we started collecting broken tree branches and leaves to build our shelters. Then we ate a light breakfast we had prepared at home. After breakfast, we learned how to build a fire safely. For lunch, we had hot dogs and potatoes cooked over the fire. After lunch, we put out the fire and got ready to look for food in the forest. Our leaders showed us which foods were safe. We returned late in the afternoon. Each group made their own campfire and learned to cook soup for supper over the fire with the things we had collected. It was delicious. We all enjoyed the trip.

A. The popularity of modern social media.
B. The need to write letters home in the past.

30. Who first used the phrase according to language experts?
A. Students. B. Experts.
C. Soldiers. D. Teachers.
31. What’s the main idea of the text?

D 33. D 34. B 35. C

根据文章第三段中的“After interviewing hundreds of people about their lives, he found that people’s happiest moments often came when they were deeply focused on what they were doing. The activity itself didn’t matter — it could be swimming, playing music, or doing surgery (手术). What mattered was the feeling of being fully absorbed and in control. (在采访了数百人关于他们的生活后,他发现,人们最幸福的时刻,往往出现在他们全身心投入手头之事的时候。具体做什么活动并不重要——无论是游泳、演奏音乐,还是进行手术。重要的是那种全神贯注、掌控自如的感觉。)”可知,人们最幸福的时刻,往往出现在他们全身心投入手头之事的时候,可推理出Csíkszentmihályi的研究结果表明,幸福感来源于完全沉浸其中。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第五段中的“Flow happens most often when there is a balance between the difficulty of a task and our skills.(当任务的难度与我们的技能之间取得平衡时,最容易出现心流状态。)”

故填for。
故填which。

故填To understand。
故填has influenced。
故填and。

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
But the old fisherman did not give up.

He climbed into the boat and handed Emma the locket.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But the old fisherman did not give up. He studied the water carefully, then pointed to a pile of rocks near the shore. “The current might have carried it there,” he said. His son nodded, took a deep breath, and dived again. This time he went deeper, disappearing into the dark green. Seconds stretched like hours. Emma clenched her fists, praying silently. Finally, the surface broke. The son raised his hand — something silver caught the sunlight. Emma’s heart thrilled in sudden delight.
He climbed into the boat and handed Emma the locket. Still dripping, it shone in her trembling palm. She pressed it to her chest, tears flowing freely. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice choked. The old fisherman smiled warmly. “The sea takes, but sometimes it gives back. Your mother’s love that is too strong to lose is irreplaceable.” That evening, Emma sat on the sand, the locket warm against her heart, knowing her mother was always with her.

Let me tell you all about an amazing survival weekend trip with my class. When the bus picked us up from the school gate at six in the morning, IT was raining heavily, which wasn't great. However, IT hadn't rained in the forest. That was important because we needed dry places for our first survival activity, building shelters. There were three leaders, each responsible for ten students. After we were divided into three groups, we started collecting broken tree branches and leaves to build our shelters. Then we ate a light breakfast we have prepared at home. After breakfast, we learned how to build a fire safely. For lunch, we had hot dogs and potatoes cooked over the fire. After lunch, we put out the fire and got ready to look for food in the forest. Our leaders showed us which foods were safe. We returned late in the afternoon. Each group made their own camp fire and learned to cook soup for supper over the fire with the things we had collected. IT was delicious. We all enjoy the trip.
