Chinese educator Zhang Guimei, born in 1957, has devoted her life to advancing girls’ education in China. After graduating from Lijiang Teachers College in 1990, she began her career as a middle-school teacher. In 1995, she moved to Huaping, a remote and impoverished county in Yunnan, where she met challenges that would shape her mission.
In Huaping, Zhang discovered that poverty and traditional beliefs led many parents to ignore their daughters’ education. As a result, many girls dropped out of school early and were married off at a young age. Zhang, deeply affected by this situation, believed that an educated mother would never allow her children to abandon school. She once said, “As long as I have breath in me, I will keep teaching in the classroom with all my heart, giving everything I have.” With this strong faith, Zhang decided in 2002 to build a free public high school for girls — a bold idea that many at the beginning considered as impossible.
Despite the doubt, Zhang carried on. With support from the local government and donations from individuals, she founded Huaping High School for Girls in 2008. Determined to prevent dropouts (辍学者), Zhang made it a personal mission to visit the homes of her students, sometimes traveling for hours into the mountains. Her tireless efforts have allowed approximately 2,000 girls from poor families to pursue higher education, completely changing their futures.
“If girls from these remote areas want to leave, we just offer them a hand to help them fly and see the wider world,” Zhang said in an interview with China Global Television Network.
Beyond offering educational opportunities, Zhang has fostered a sense of self-worth and confidence in her students. In the fall of 2020, she surprised all 468 students by treating them to the best milk tea in the area, saying, “I hope that one day, these girls can walk down the street and drink whatever they want.”
Her spirit is reflected in the school’s motto (校训): “I was built to be a mountain, not a creek (小溪).” Zhang’s devotion and vision have not only given girls an education but also left a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of girls.
4. What caused Zhang Guimei to found a free public high school for girls in Huaping?
A. To become a famous educator in China. B. To give everything she has to teaching with all her heart.
C. To promote traditional beliefs among the girls. D. To help girls escape early marriage and receive education.
5. What is the possible effect of Zhang’s home visits to students’ families?
A. Poor families are greatly improved. B. Mountain roads are quickly repaired.
C. Dropout rates are directly reduced. D. School donations are slowly increased.
6. Why did Zhang treat her students to the best milk tea in the fall of 2020?
A. To reward them for good grades. B. To encourage them to aim higher in life.
C. To surprise them with something special. D. To inspire them to support local businesses.
7. How does the school’s motto, “I was built to be a mountain, not a creek,” reflect Zhang’s hopes for her students?
A. Cherish mountain views. B. Serve the local mountains.
C. Be strong and independent. D. Beat examination hardships.

ChatGPT markets itself as a productivity booster for workers, yet a striking gender gap in its use has emerged. Two recent studies prove women are 16 to 20 percentage points less likely to adopt the AI tool than men, even when holding the same jobs or studying the same majors.
The first survey covered 100,000 Danish workers across 11 professions in which the technology could save workers' time, including journalism, software-developing and teaching. Researchers found out that surprisingly, in all fields, female employees fell behind male ones in AI use. Half of male teachers used ChatGPT at work, compared with only one-third of female teachers. Among developers, nearly two-thirds of men turned to the tool, while fewer than half of women did. The gap shrank only slightly, to 16 percentage points, when directly comparing people in the same firms working on similar tasks. Researchers concluded women's lack of confidence may be in part to blame: female non-users were far more likely to claim they needed professional training before using AI.
Another study focused on university students. Among business undergraduates, women were 18 percentage points less likely to use ChatGPT frequently. The gap mainly existed among mid and top-performing female students, while low achievers showed little gender difference. Further interviews revealed top female students set strict limits on themselves. Driven by a “good girl” mindset, they refused shortcuts, believing they must finish assignments independently. If professors clearly permitted AI, however, they would gladly use it. Worse still, the restriction harms women's future career prospects (前景). Nonetheless, a follow-up survey of 1,143 recruiters showed outstanding women with AI skills gained an 8% employment upper hand, which is unavailable to men.
Experts hold mixed attitudes toward this tendency. Tera Allas from McKinsey fears AI products will be tailored to male users, pushing women out long-term. But Danielle Li from MIT stays optimistic. She pointed out that women later dominated online activity after the male-dominated early internet. Besides, heavy AI use does not guarantee better work performance, and top female students may simply avoid digital distractions.
8. What does the underlined word “shrank” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Disappeared B. Narrowed C. Widened D. Soared
9. What can we infer about high-scoring female business students?
A. Their grades fall greatly after using ChatGPT.
B. They hate AI because it breaks fair study rules.
C. They seldom finish homework without online tools.
D. They dropped the limitation if teachers agree on AI.
10. According to the interviewers’ survey, what advantage do top women with AI skills have?
A. Free AI training courses B. An 8% benefit in job hunting
C. Permission to use AI shortcuts D. The same salary as male workers
11. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. A New Gender Gap in AI adoption B. Ways to Encourage Women to Learn AI
C. Experts’ Ideas About Future AI Products D. Studies on Students’ Daily Use of ChatGPT
D
For the first time since the Apollo days, humans are preparing not just to visit the Moon, but to live and work there for weeks, months, and even years. The US Artemis program aims to set up a base on the Moon’s surface. Rather than just leaving “flags and footprints” as the Apollo mission did, NASA wants to establish a long-term human presence on the Moon, beginning at the lunar South Pole.
The program unfolds in stages. In 2022, Artemis I mission successfully tested the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft on an unmanned mission around the Moon. On April 1, 2026, NASA launched Artemis II, a ten-day mission carrying four astronauts around the Moon to verify that life-support systems, temperature protection and deep-space operations function safely with humans onboard. Before astronauts can live on the Moon, the journey there must be proven dependable.
NASA plans to spend $20 billion on a lunar surface base to support longer and longer stays. This is designed to teach us how to operate lastingly beyond Earth — knowledge that will finally feed forward to future Mars missions.
Living on the Moon will challenge every organ (器官) system in the human body. Unlike astronauts in low-Earth orbit, astronauts on the Moon work largely outside Earth’s protection. This increases exposure (暴露) to space radiation (辐射), which can harm DNA, weaken the body’s defense system, and affect the brain and the heart. Currently, there are some measures to reduce radiation, such as using lunar soil as cover, early warning systems for solar storms, and operational strategies that limit exposure during high-risk periods. Personalized eating strategies and exercise are also important during long lunar missions.
Spending longer time on the Moon will be amazing. If we can learn how to keep humans healthy and productive on the lunar surface, we take a decisive step toward becoming a truly spaceflight species. Artemis shows that exploration is no longer about brief heroics. It is about adaptability and understanding ourselves as deeply as the worlds we seek to explore. In learning how to live on the Moon, we may learn as much about life on Earth as we do about our future beyond it.
12. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. Humans will return to the Moon soon.
B. The Apollo program was very successful.
C. NASA plans to build a long-term Moon base.
D. Astronauts will work at the Moon’s South Pole.
13. What does the underlined word “verify” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Permit. B. Confirm. C. Recover. D. Bet.
14. Why does the author mention low-Earth orbit in paragraph 4?
A. To stress the value of exercising during space missions.
B. To show the radiation harm to astronauts on the Moon.
C. To present the various methods of protecting astronauts.
D. To prove the low-Earth orbit mission is more dangerous.
15. What is the author’s attitude toward exploring living on the Moon?
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Worried.

My brother Matthew had always expected to have a little brother. When I was born, he was disappointed to have a sister. To him, I was an annoyance, small, weak, and coward (胆小的) and he often found comfort in teasing me. As a little girl, I often wondered if Matthew and I would have real friendship like other brother and sister, caring and helping each other.
It was not until he went to university that he unexpectedly invited me to visit him on his campus for the first time. In his room, he handed me a drink, telling me his struggle for making new friends and how tough he was to study Maths. From that day on, we talked more and our bond seemed to get changed.
One Thanksgiving, I was criticised by dad and didn’t want to attend the family dinner. Matthew stayed with me and we had dinner together — just the two of us. My big brother, once a man I felt distant from, became the person who accompanied me when I was in low spirits.
In the first summer vacation of my university, Matthew suggested taking me to make an off-road driving on 85,000 acres of desert in California. We learned some first aid methods and survival tips, knowing how to deal with minor injuries and send out a signal for help on a remote desert. After we got everything prepared, our adventure journey started and we enjoyed ourselves on the way. Unfortunately, on a windy afternoon our car overturned.
“Are you okay?” My brother asked from the driver’s seat in a weak voice. We were hanging upside down, trapped by our seat belts and covered in sand. I felt some blood flowing to my hand, my heart pounding violently, extremely scared.
Looking towards him, I found Matthew badly injured, his arm bleeding and stuck in the seat. There was a hint of fear lingering in his eyes, something I had rarely seen in my big brother. The man I’d seen as strong was now human, fragile (脆弱的).
It was my turn to give him help.

【51题答案】
【答案】Dear Jack,
Having heard of your plan to organize a Multicultural Week on campus, I am genuinely delighted to offer my suggestions.
To begin with, I propose a “Global Village Fair” as the centerpiece of the event, where each class represents a different country. Students can decorate their booths with national flags, traditional costumes, and handmade crafts. To make it more interactive, we could arrange cultural workshops, like Chinese calligraphy lessons. At the heart of the Multicultural Week is moving beyond stereotypes and understand the values and histories that shape different communities.
I am confident that this approaching week will be an unforgettable journey.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
【52题答案】
【答案】It was my turn to give him help. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my own racing heart. Look at me, Matthew. We’re siblings, and I will always be with you. Slowly but surely, we managed to free ourselves from the seat belts and crawled out of the car. I clumsily applied a clean cloth on his arm to stop bleeding and tried to bandage his wound carefully. After searching the trunk, I found a colourful rope and used it to make a large SOS sign in the sand, hoping to be found.
Hours later, the rescue team found us. They praised us for our self rescue awareness, saying they were on duty when they found our sign. I knew it was my care for my brother that gave me courage to stay cool. It’s ugly but I love it. Thank you, my dear sister, staring at the bandage on his arm, Matthew showed a comfort smile, weak but proud. With the help of the rescue team, we safely returned home. I finally understood that true sibling love came from company, care and help.
