B Nowadays, women entrepreneurs (创业者) in tech face many challenges, such as difficulty in obtaining funding and lack of guidance on patents. To help address this, UNESCO launched a project called the African Women in Tech and AI (AWITAI), which is intended to train 150 women entrepreneurs from 35 African countries in AI and data science. Jihane Ouhejjou is one of the participants in this project. With the training and support she received, she has been using technological innovation to make positive changes for her community and the environment. Born in Morocco, a country frequently hit by droughts, Ouhejjou has long been concerned about a serious problem across Africa: 20% to 40% of water is wasted during distribution through water pipes. Growing up in a family where access to water was always a challenge, she learned from an early age that water is a precious resource that needs to be carefully protected. To solve this problem, Ouhejjou developed an AI system. She is now working with a Moroccan hardware partner to improve her product. The partner provides specialized sensors that measure water pressure, flow speed and other environmental data. These sensors collect data, which is then analyzed by the AI. The AI can quickly detect any issues in the water distribution network and identify unusual conditions at an early stage — before they develop into serious failures. Across Africa, more women like Ouhejjou are playing a key role in shaping the future of technology. They are not only starting their own businesses but also designing solutions to some of the continent’s most urgent problems — such as water waste, energy shortage, and food insecurity — using their talents to drive sustainable development. 4. What is the main aim of the AWITAI? A. To fund women-led tech companies. B. To inspire women to start businesses. C. To help African women get AI skills. D. To assist with water conservation in Morocco. 5. What problem has Jihane Ouhejjou been trying to address? A. Water loss in distribution. B. Serious water pollution. C. Shortage of quality water pipes. D. Lack of access to clean water. 6. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Female entrepreneurs are to compete. B. Government funding is key to success. C. Women should focus mainly on water issues. D. Business and social impact can go hand in hand. 7. What kind of person is Jihane Ouhejjou? A. Ambitious and realistic. B. Wealthy and well-educated. C. Traditional and conservative. D. Creative and community-minded. C After more than 50 years of searching, scientists have finally found evidence of a mild wind blowing from the center of our Milky Way, suggesting it is not unique among large galaxies (星系). Every such galaxy is thought to host a supermassive black hole that consumes nearby gas and dust, generating powerful winds. But the Milky Way’s supermassive resident, Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), had appeared to be an outlier — until now. Scientists have struggled to find Sgr A*’s wind largely because it’s hard to see through all the gas and stars blocking our view of the black hole. But two scientists, Murchikova and Mark Gorski, thought they could catch a better view using new data processing techniques. So, they collected about 100 hours of observations of the black hole gathered between 2017 and 2021 using the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array radio telescope in Chile. They removed the radio wavelengths of light and constructed the sharpest image yet of cold molecular (分子的) gas surrounding Sgr A*. The image revealed a cone-shaped (锥形的) gap in the gas, around three light-years in length, with an opening angle of about 45 degrees. A hole of this size could have been formed only by hot wind blowing from the black hole, the researchers say. Data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, which showed bright X-rays — given off by extremely hot gas — coming from the same conical region, also confirmed the discovery. The space telescope’s image “just fitted in perfectly. The molecular features lined up,” Gorski notes in the statement. “The potential discovery of a wind coming from Sagittarius A* is indeed a big deal,” says Rebecca Diesing, a scientist at Columbia University. The findings can help deepen our understanding of how black holes shape galaxies. Their winds can slow star formation by preventing gas clouds from collapsing and seeding stars, or they can do the opposite by pushing gases together and creating conditions favorable for star formation. 8. What does the underlined phrase “an outlier” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. A typical example. B. A rare exception. C. A regular pattern. D. A common feature. 9. How did the two researchers find evidence of Sgr A*’s wind? A. By building an imaging system. B. By reanalyzing existing data. C. By using theoretical assessment. D. By making a cross-galaxy comparison. 10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Supporting evidence for the research result. B. Potential application of the research findings. C. A further explanation of the research methods. D. A reasonable doubt about the research process. 11. Which research will the discovery contribute to most? A. Formation of molecular gas. B. Black holes’ effects on star birth. C. Mechanics of gas cloud collapse. D. Galaxies’ impact on wind strength. D Small, colorless, and blind cavefishes inhabit underground waters throughout the eastern United States. In a new study, Yale researchers reveal insights into just how these distinctive cave residents evolved — and provide a unique method for dating the underground ecosystems where they reside. In an analysis of the genomes (基因组) of all known blind species, the researchers found that the different species colonized (定居) cave systems independently of each other and separately evolved similar features — such as the loss of eyes and color — as they adapted to their dark cave environments. Their findings are published in the journal Molecular Biology and Evolution. By studying the specific genetic mutations (突变) that caused the fishes’ eyes to degenerate over time, the researchers developed a sort of “mutational clock” that allowed them to estimate when each species began losing their vision. They found that the vision-related genes of the oldest cavefish species, the Ozark cavefish, began degenerating up to 11 million years ago. This technique provides a minimum age for the caves, as the cavefish must have been living in underground waters when their eyesight started to devolve. To understand when the cavefish began populating caves, the researchers studied the fishes’ genomes, examining 88 vision-related genes for mutations. The analysis revealed that the various cavefish ancestries had completely different sets of genetic mutations involved in the loss of vision. This, they said, suggests that separate species colonized caves and adapted to those underground ecosystems independently of each other. “A number of the mutations we see in the cavefish genomes that lead to degeneration of the eyes are similar to mutations that cause eye diseases in humans,” said Thomas Near, senior author of the study. “There is the possibility for translational medicine through which by studying this natural system in cavefishes, we can collect insights into the genomic mechanisms of eye diseases in humans.” 12. What did Yale researchers discover about blind cavefishes? A. They evolved independently. B. They had identical mutations. C. They shared common ancestors. D. They developed at the same pace. 13. What is the function of the mutational clock? A. Estimating cavefish ages. B. Confirming the formation of caves. C. Identifying the time of vision loss. D. Improving the underground ecosystems. 14. What evidence shows cavefish species colonized caves separately? A. Diverse genome numbers. B. Similar mutation patterns. C. Different vision-loss mutations. D. Uniform genomic mechanisms. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. Mutational Clock B. Cavefish Evolution C. Vision-Related Genomes D. Independent Colonization Is It Time to See Dyslexia (读写障碍) as a Superpower? Most of us think we know what dyslexia is: a disorder that prevents people from reading well. ____16____ That’s why we see the struggles that kids with dyslexia face in school: falling behind in homework, needing extra help, and feeling bad about themselves. But what if this “problem” view is completely wrong? ____17____ And what if a new way of looking at it would help these kids discover their superpower? This is the surprising claim made in a new documentary, The Dyslexic Advantage. Psychologists Fernette and Brock Eide have come to believe that dyslexia is “not a disease, but a gift”. ____18____ They learn best through direct experience, not through reading or repeating things over and over. One of the most creative ideas in The Dyslexic Advantage is a list of strengths, called MIND: Material reasoning, Interconnected reasoning, Narrative (叙事性的) reasoning, and Dynamic reasoning. ____19____ To help explain these ideas, the film interviews successful people in filmmaking, engineering, medicine, and art. ____20____ For example, Robert Ballard, one of the discoverers of the Titanic wreck (沉船), used his strong dynamic reasoning to find its location. Adopting this new approach doesn’t mean ignoring a child’s problems with reading and writing, nor does it exclude extra help in those areas. But the most important idea is to help dyslexic kids build on their strengths, rather than focusing exclusively on their weaknesses. A. Simply put, dyslexic minds are specialized. B. It hurts the brain’s ability to process written language. C. What if dyslexia is a different thinking style with strengths? D. What if dyslexia can be completely cured with proper training? E. People with dyslexia tend to be very good at one or more of these. F. These disadvantages caused by dyslexia should be seen as a trade-off. G. It turns out that their success happened not despite their dyslexia, but because of it. No specialized equipment, no training: Candelaria, 30, won the 63 km Canyons Ultramarathon (峡谷超级马拉松) in Mexico in 7 hours and 34 minutes. For four generations, the Mitchells had tended those trees, shipping apples across the state. But when Dad turned 18, he left for the city. The family farm became a distant memory he rarely mentioned, a place I knew only from old photographs in a dusty album. That changed last September. My cousin Emma, the only relative still living in our hometown, sent us a box of apples with a note inside: “Uncle David, this year’s harvest is one of our best, but there’s barely anyone left to pick them. Three more families have sold their land to developers. If things don’t change, the orchard won’t survive another five years.” My father read the note in silence, his jaw tight. For days, he barely spoke. Then one evening at dinner, he put down his fork and said quietly, “I’m going back. Not just for a visit — I want to figure out how to save it.” Two weeks later, we were driving down a narrow country road lined with autumn-touched trees. The orchard stretched out before us — rows upon rows of apple trees heavy with fruit, the air sweet and fresh. “You’re the one who knows social media,” he said, as we walked through the orchard. “All those platforms and videos you’re always on. Do you think we could use that to bring people here? Farm tours, pick-your-own weekends, an online store for our apple juice and pies?” I hesitated. What did I know about running a farm? I was a city kid who’d never planted anything in my life. But looking at my father’s hopeful face — a face I’d never seen so vulnerable (脆弱的) — and then at Emma’s weary eyes, I felt something shift inside me. The next morning, I grabbed my phone, and walked out into the orchard. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Six months later, the orchard was no longer a quiet, forgotten place. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 秘密★启用前 普通高中2025—2026学年(下)高二年级期末考试 英 语 注意事项: 1. 1. 4. C 5. A 6. D 7. 8. B 9. B 10. A 11. 15. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The next morning, I grabbed my phone, and walked out into the orchard. I started filming — close-ups of ripe apples, the sound of a fresh bite, Emma’s hands expertly making a basket. I added a simple sentence: “An orchard that raised four generations. Can we save it?” Within hours, the video went viral among local communities. People began calling to ask about pick-your-own weekends. I set up a small online store for apple juice and pies, shared behind-the-scenes videos, and even posted a livestream of apple picking. Six months later, the orchard was no longer a quiet, forgotten place. Cars lined the country road every weekend. Families with picnic baskets wandered through the trees, children laughing as they reached for apples. Our online store shipped pies and apple juice across the state, and the farm’s social media account had thousands of followers. Dad gladly quit his city job and moved back full-time. One evening, he sat beside me and said gratefully, “You did this.” I shook my head. “We did this.” Spring comes and above us, the apple trees were beginning to flower — a promise of more seasons to come. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 养育:raise/foster ② 辞职:quit one’s job/resign from one’s job 情绪类 ① 高兴地:gladly/pleasantly ② 感激地:gratefully/thankfully 【点睛】【高分句型1】I added a simple sentence: “An orchard that raised four generations.
