阅读理解(每小题2.5分) A Encouraging bilingualism, the ability to speak two languages equally well, at home can have many benefits on mental processes of understanding, which may be particularly helpful to kids with autism (孤独症), a new research indicates. The new research explored the role of bilingualism in 112 children, including children with typical development and children with autism, between the ages of 7 to 12 years old.Overall, they found that children who spoke two or more languages often had stronger executive (执行) functioning skills. This means they are able to control the sudden desire and to switch between different tasks more easily than children who only speak one language. Published in the journal Autism Research, the results are significant because executive functioning skills are a key challenge for children with autism, but are important for all kids to develop in school and later in the workplace. While executive function skills develop and improve across the whole life, individuals with autism often struggle with executive functioning, affecting their ability to manage daily tasks and adapt to new situations. An idea called joint activation from the field of neuroscience (神经科学) can help explain the results.Prior research suggests that the bilingual brain has two languages constantly active and competing. As a result, the daily experience of shifting between these languages is associated with enhanced executive control.“If you have to deal with two languages, you have to control one intentionally in order to use the other. That's the idea, that restriction or the ability to stop you from doing something, might be strengthened by knowing two languages,” says Lucina Uddin, now a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. “This will surely bring a sense of relief to many of our families living with loved ones with autism. But maybe it takes time to translate that to families,” says Lynn Perry, an associate professor at the University of Miami.Perry intends to conduct further research with preschool children to see if bilingualism also has an impact on kids' interpersonal skills, which are crucial for children's social and mental development. 1.What can be learned about executive functioning skills?( ) A.They help develop children's bilingualism. B.They contribute to children's sudden desire. C.They are hard to obtain for kids with autism. D.They are formed between the ages of 7 to 12. 根据第三段中“Published in the journal Autism Research, the results are significant because executive functioning skills are a key challenge for children with autism, but are important for all kids to develop in school and later in the workplace.” C。 2.How does the idea “joint activation” work?( ) A.By activating the prior memory. B.By switching to other learning tasks. C.By preventing language competitions. D.By enhancing restriction on one language. D。 3.What might the follow-up study focus on?( ) A.Bilingualism's application in other fields. B.Parents' rising awareness of bilingualism. C.Ways to cure preschool children with autism. D.Bilingualism's effect on kids' social interaction. 根据最后一段中“Perry intends to conduct further research with preschool children to see if bilingualism also has an impact on kids' interpersonal skills, which are crucial for children's social and mental development.” D。 4.What is the text mainly about?( ) A.The benefits of being bilingual. B.The causes and effects of autism. C.The strategies to master two languages. D.The role bilingualism plays in fighting autism. B (2026·厦门检测)When John Dougill first came to Japan 30 years ago, he noticed a strange phrase adorning(装饰) his neighborhood butcher's shop in Kyoto.Instead of “meat shop”, its sign read “flesh shop”. Dougill assumed shop staff weren't aware of their English-language error. But when he told the owners about it, they nodded politely at him.But they didn't change the sign. “It didn't matter if the sign said ‘flesh’ or ‘fresh’ or ‘meat’,” recalls Dougill, a professor at Ryukoku University, who has researched the use of English in Japan.“It was just there to catch people's attention. It wasn't being used to communicate, as people could see it was a meat shop from outside.” It was Dougill's first encounter with the Japanese phenomenon of “Engrish” or “Japanglish.” Engrish is what happens when English mistakes appear in Japanese advertising, on products like T-shirts and stationary, or on restaurant menus. In the West, Engrish is often viewed more as an example of everyday racism(种族主义) intended to laugh at non-native English speakers. It's also not wholly a Japanese phenomenon. There's “Konglish” in Korea, “Singlish” in Singapore and “Chinglish” in China—all referring to the different ways in which locals have repurposed English. In Japan, Engrish falls into two categories: Decorative English is used to create a mood and is purely targeted at Japanese people, while Communicative English is meant to provide instructions to foreigners but is often grammatically incorrect or misspelled. According to the website engrish.com—which showcases examples of Engrish across the world—English in Japan is used as a design element in products and advertising to give them a modern look and feel (or just to “look cool”).It's not used to communicate a specific message, but rather a mood. That's particular to Japanese culture, where meanings are often not clear but inferred. “There is often no attempt to try to get Engrish right, nor do the vast majority of the Japanese population ever attempt to read the English design element in question,” the website states. 5.Why did the owners refuse to change the sign according to Dougill?( ) A.They didn't think it's wrong. B.They didn't take it seriously. C.It would bring economic loss. D.It would cause inconvenience. 6.What do we learn about Engrish?( ) A.It's English spoken by Asians. B.It's English spoken by Japanese. C.It's popular in Western countries. D.It's made fun of by native speakers. 7.What is special about Decorative English in Japan?( ) A.It's different from Engrish. B.It's intended for foreigners. C.It focuses on form instead of content. D.It uses correct grammar and spelling. 8.What will happen according to the website engrish.com?( ) A.Engrish will disappear soon. B.Engrish will become more popular. C.Engrish will be an effective language. D.Engrish will stay unchanged in Japan. Ⅱ.完形填空(每小题1分) (2025·河北名校仿真预测卷)Heartwarming stories are unfolding around the world. In a small Michigan town, a café owner has not only __1__ the life of a homeless veteran (退伍军人) but also inspired an entire community to step in and help.
