At first she thought the shaking came from a big truck. Before she could get ready, the classroom fell down, and she was trapped under broken buildings for three whole days, 72 hours in total.
When people finally saved her, doctors had to cut off her right leg to save her life. She received over thirty painful operations (手术) to keep her left leg safe. In her teenage years, she felt upset and tried to hide her disability. Thanks to her parents’ warm encouragement and help from society, she slowly cheered up and chose to face life bravely.
Ten years after the earthquake, in 2018, Niu Yu made a surprising choice: she took part in the Wenchuan Half Marathon with her artificial leg (假肢). Though the metal leg hurt her leg badly during the race, she finished the whole competition and won people’s high praise as “the most beautiful marathon girl”.

She walks on fashion shows, runs outdoors and shares her positive stories online with millions of fans. She always tries her best to encourage disabled people to step out of shadow and enjoy life.

Happiness in My Eyes
To me, happiness is not about wealth, but about love and sharing. It lies in small things around us.
Last week, I helped my classmate with his math problem. When he understood it and smiled at me, I felt truly happy. That moment taught me that helping others brings joy.
In daily life, we can find happiness by caring for our family and friends. We should also smile more and offer help to those in need. If we share love, happiness will follow us everywhere. Let’s enjoy every happy moment!
