Have you ever noticed that your nose gets wet when you cry? It is not
magic. It happens because your eyes and your nose are secret neighbors!
There is a tiny tunnel called a tear duct that connects them. When you
are sad, your eyes make many tears. Usually, tears stay in your eyes to keep
them clean. But when you cry a lot, there are too many tears for your eyes
to hold. So, the extra tears start to travel. They go into the secret tunnel and
slide down into your nose.
This is like a drain (排水管) in a sink. The water has to go somewhere, so it flows (流动) through the pipe. When the tears arrive in your nose, they mix with the air and make your nose feel runny. That is why you need a tissue for both your eyes and the nose!

Climate change causes the world’s biggest iceberg to break apart.
A23a used to be the world’s largest iceberg (冰山). But sadly, it broke into pieces over time and disappeared(消失) before this April. Scientists took back its name because it was too small to be called an iceberg.
It is natural for big icebergs like A23a to get smaller. Warm summer air melts (使融化) them, and ocean currents break them down. However, climate change is making ice melt faster in Antarctica (南极洲). Ocean temperatures reached a new height in 2025. This change in heat is the same as setting off 12 Hiroshima bombs (广岛原子弹) in the ocean every second for the whole year.
Even though A23a is far from people, its melting has greatly changed the world. When it broke apart, it gave out nutrients (营养物) into the ocean, making small sea plants like algae grow quickly. This might upset the balance of nature. The broken ice pieces could also make it hard for animals like penguins and seals to find food. Some pieces are big enough to cause trouble for nearby ships and fishing activities.
根据短文内容,判断正 (T) 误 (F)。(5分)
61. A23a was once the world’s biggest iceberg.
62. A23a was gone before this March.
63. Ice in Antarctica melt more quickly because of climate change.
64. The melting of A23a is helpful for the balance of nature.
65. Some broken ice pieces are dangerous to ships and fishing.

How do most Chinese students spend their free time after finishing their homework? Watch TV, play computer games or go outside to relax? Here’s a good example from the UK.
Mr. and Mrs. Meek are both teachers. They live in the UK with their two daughters, eleven-year-
old Amy and nine-year-old Ella. Recently, the Meek family have become the focus of the whole country after they finished 100 different outdoor activities in one year.
The Meeks didn’t want their children to spend all their free time in front of the TV, or play computer games. About one year ago, the Meeks listed 100 activities for the two girls to do outside.
Although Mr. and Mrs. Meek are not outdoor activity fans, they took part in all the activities to spend time with their daughters. The two girls really had a great time joining in the activities.
Every holiday and weekend, the Meeks tried the activities on their list, like hiking, climbing and so on. The two girls not only had a wonderful time, but also learned a lot of skills. They could even stand in front of their schoolmates to give a talk. “Our friends spend a lot of their free time doing things like playing computer games and watching TV. These are bad for their health. Luckily, we’ve had something different.” Amy and Ella also helped their parents make a new list of activities for the next 12 months.
