B
① One morning, I got up early and decided to make an apple pie for my mum. I called my grandma for help, followed a TV program to make jam and waited excitedly. I enjoyed every step so much that I didn’t notice three hours pass by. Although the pie looked terrible and was not that delicious, Mum ate it up and told me it was the best pie that she had ever had. For the first time, I realized that although I didn’t make the pie successfully, I really enjoyed the process.
② The process is important because it brings us something bigger than the result itself. That is, we always have new experiences during the process, which may help us improve our skills or form good relationships with others. If we just concentrate on the result and do not enjoy the process, we will be more likely to feel disappointed and want to give up. As a result, we will never understand the real meaning of success.
③ But in this busy world, we see a lot of successful people are in competition. How can we enjoy the process? Well, the question has the answer in itself.
④ Don’t always compare yourself with others. First of all, we are all different. And success means different things to us. For some, success means being famous, while for others, it may be health or power. Ride your own ride.
⑤ Slow down. You need to stop expecting immediate results in what you do and learn to be patient. Impatience leads to unhappiness. Do it slowly, but never stop.
⑥ Reward (奖励) yourself. Divide the process into small steps, and give yourself a reward after completing each of them. Rewarding yourself for small wins can go a long way. For example, if you are in the process of losing weight, enjoy your favourite cake once in a while.

24. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?

C. Never give up D. How can we achieve good results?
C 22. D 23. C 24. C 25. A

It’s common to see people create coffee art, but it’s a whole different ballgame doing the same thing with tea. After many years of research and practice, Han Zheming has managed to perfect the skill, creating tea art in cups, or dian cha in Chinese, which used to be a ritual (仪式) during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
Over the past six years, the 40-year-old Shanghai man has used tea and spoons to create nearly 200 patterns (图案) based on ancient paintings.
“It is similar to the foam (泡沫) on top of a cup of coffee, except that it is made of tea rather than milk,” Han says. He wants to bring the old ritual back to modern life and have more people understand its beauty. “It’s like adding bells and whistles to tea and giving people a stronger sense of ritual, so drinking tea is more fun,” Han explains. “Dian cha in modern tea making also improves the taste of tea.”
In the Song Dynasty, the common way of having tea was through dian cha. The process begins with hot water being poured over fine tea to create a paste (糊状物), then more hot water is slowly added and the tea is repeatedly whisked (搅拌) by hand with a bamboo stick.
This action of pouring hot water is called dian, and that’s how the name dian cha appeared. It usually needs whisking the mixture between 180 and 200 times before the water and the tea are fully mixed and the foam appears. Then, one can begin to make artistic designs on the foam.
It is believed that this way later spread to other parts of East Asia, including Japan, where similarities can be seen in the way matcha (抹茶) is prepared today.
Han has always been fascinated by the culture and art of the Song Dynasty under the influence of his mother. In order to bring back the ancient art to life, Han often goes to museums to study Song paintings. “When it comes to traditional painting, it is about the soft brush against the hard paper, but with the tea, it is the other way round,” Han says. “It’s the hard spoon against the soft foam.” Han added, “It has to be careful but quick work, before the foam disappears.”
26. Through the underlined sentence in the Paragraph 1, the writer wants to say ________.
A. creating tea art is the same thing as a ball game
B. creating tea art isn’t as easy as creating coffee art
C. it is common to see coffee art during the Song Dynasty
D. it is common to see tea art during the Song Dynasty
27. According to Paragraph 3, dian cha can bring tea drinkers ________.
A. a new ritual and more beauty B. more bells and whistles
C. better smell and more taste D. a sense of ritual and better taste
28. The underlined words “adding bells and whistles” in the third paragraph mean ________.
29. The correct order of making dian cha is ________.
①create a paste ②pour hot water
③design artistic patterns ④whisk the tea with a stick
A. ①②③④ B. ②①④③ C. ②④①③ D. ①③②④
30. In which section of the newspaper can we read the passage?

第三段明确指出:“giving people a stronger sense of ritual... Dian cha in modern tea making also improves the taste of tea.”
第四段明确指出:“The process begins with hot water being poured over fine tea to create a paste, then more hot water is slowly added and the tea is repeatedly whisked by hand with a bamboo stick.”以及第五段指出:“Then, one can begin to make artistic designs on the foam.”
The Value of Negative Results
We all avoid failure(失败), and most of us fear it. However, without failure, progress would be impossible. What does success usually come after? Failure. It seems that one cannot exist(存在) without the other.
Accepting failure is not easy for many, though. We are often unwilling to accept failure because our professional fame(声誉) depends on success. ____31____ In the past ten years, for example, some scientific magazines have published reports of failed tests. It is believed that scientists can learn more “negative(负面的)” results and that this can finally lead to positive results.
____32____ The ABN AMRO bank started an Institute(机构) of Brilliant Failures to learn more about what works and what doesn’t in banking. Similarly Eli Lilly and Company had failure parties to study the drugs(药物) that don’t work.
In fact, one of the business world’s most famous failures became one of its biggest successes, partly because the product’s makers learned from their mistakes. ____33____ The product, though unique(独特的) at the time, was expensive and heavy; besides, some of its most important features(特点) didn’t work properly. As a result, it became one of Apple’s biggest failures, and in 1998, the company stopped selling it. However, Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, believed in the product and he began to find out ways of improving it. In time, this led to the production of the iPhone and the iPad, two of the company’s most successful products.
____34____ Not only should we try to learn from it; if we want to succeed, we must also be persistent(执着的). Though Apple stopped selling the Newton in 1998, the first iPhone wasn’t available until 2007. It took a lot of research and hard work to go from the Apple Newton to iPhone, but in the end, the effort became successful.
All in all, there is a lot we can learn by studying mistakes. Perhaps the most important lesson is that failure and success are two sides of the same coin. ____35____
A. One truly cannot exist without the other.
B. In the early 1990s, Apple created a product called the Apple Newton.
C. The business world already understands the value of negative results.
D. The Apple Newton has won popularity with people all over the world.
E. However, things are slowly changing, especially in business and science.
F. The story of the Apple Newton can teach us an important lesson about failure.
E 32. C 33. B 34. F 35. A

第3段“The ABN AMRO bank started an Institute of Brilliant Failures...Similarly Eli Lilly and Company had failure parties”可知,这里是说明商业界已认识到负面结果的价值,选项C“商业界已经理解了负面结果的价值”能呼应该段主题。
第4段“In fact, one of the business world’s most famous failures became one of its biggest successes...As a result, it became one of Apple’s biggest failures”可知,这里是引出苹果Newton产品的案例,选项B“在20世纪90年代初,苹果公司推出了一款名为Apple Newton的产品”能衔接后文对该产品的描述。
第5段“Though Apple stopped selling the Newton in 1998...the effort became successful”可知,这里是说明Apple Newton的案例能教给我们关于失败的教训,选项F“Apple Newton的故事能给我们上一堂关于失败的重要课程”能呼应这一案例的意义。
第6段“failure and success are two sides of the same coin”可知,这里是强调二者不可分割,选项A“一方真的无法脱离另一方而存在”能衔接这一结论。

A. Enjoy the process B. What does success mean to us?
C. Never give up D. How can we achieve good results?

A. ①②③④ B. ②①④③ C. ②④①③ D. ①③②④
