死海板块写明“Its water has much salt, so people can float easily without swimming”,对应B选项表述;A与原文“Climbing to the top is difficult”相悖,C错在大堡礁位于澳大利亚而非约旦,依据原文信息判断正误得出答案。
B
Carlos Mendez, 38, grew up in a working-class community in Houston, Texas. “School never felt like it was for me,” he once said. For years, he has had difficulty in reading, being able to read only a few simple words. He worked part-time jobs—building, gardening, food service, but his reading problem always held him back. He depended on audio (音频) apps and asked others to read messages for him, and he often lied about his reading ability to avoid embarrassment. In 2024, after his daughter was born, he decided to change his life. “I want to read her bedtime stories one day,” he told himself.
With the help of his wife, Lila, Carlos began learning to read at the age of 36. Every night, they sat together at the kitchen table, starting with simple picture books and slowly moving to children’s chapter (章节) books. “There were nights I wanted to give up,” he said. But he kept going, and after a year, he could read full paragraphs without help.
Later, he even started sharing his reading journey on social media, which brought something unexpected. People began to follow his progress, cheering him on as he read more challenging books. “I realized my story might help someone else feel less alone,” he said. Today, Carlos has over 250, 000 followers on TikTok, where he posts live book readings and shares tips for adult learners. Many people say his videos have inspired them to pick up a book again.
Now, Carlos lives with his family in Austin, Texas. He reads to his daughter every night and hopes to write a children’s book someday. “I never thought I’d be someone who could help others learn to read,” he said. “This life, this family, this purpose—it’s everything I’ve ever wanted.”
3. What can we know about Carlos’ past?
A. He could hardly read.
B. He didn’t mind his weakness.
C. He read stories to his daughter.
4. What happened after Carlos shared his reading journey online?
A. He wrote a book. B. He stopped reading. C. He received support.
5. Which of the following best describes Carlos?
A. Shy but polite. B. Caring and brave. C. Kind but strict.
6. What does the story mainly tell us?
A. Time waits for no man.
B. East or west, home is best.
C. It’s never too late to learn.
A 4. C 5. B 6. C

It’s never too late to learn。
C
Scientists tell how healthy rainforests are by listening to the sounds of their wildlife. A healthy forest is full of animal calls and birdsong but an unhealthy forest is much quieter. However, that is a big job. Researchers can make thousands of hours of recordings but then someone has to listen to them all and pick out the different animal and bird calls.
What if that someone is an AI? Scientists are using AI technology to help with the task. Through the new Forest Listeners web experiment (实验), scientists want people around the world — including you — to help too.
The website gets you to move around a virtual (虚拟的) forest, listening for wildlife. When you find a new species (物种), you listen to its song until you can remember it. The next step is to listen to real forest recordings (there are more than 1.2 million of them), and decide for each one whether you can tell that animal call or not, or if you’ re not sure.
The answers people give are then used to train AI to tell what animals they are by their sounds. Scientists say that the project helps them deal with a huge number of recordings. Without AI, it would take many years to study them all. “Every sound tagged (贴标签) by a forest listener helps train our AI models,” the scientists said, “This group effort provides us with valuable information, allowing us to find out differences among different animals. These are important signs for a healthy forest.”
7. What does the underlined word “that” refer to in Paragraph 1?
A. Recording wildlife pictures.
B. Comparing different animal calls.
C. Checking forest health by listening.
8. What question does Paragraph 3 mainly answer?
A. What can show a rainforest is healthy?
B. How do people help in the web experiment?
C. Why do the scientists start the web experiment?
9. How does AI help the scientists?
A. By dealing with recordings quickly.
B. By remembering new species’ sounds.
C. By inviting more people to care for forests.
10. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Forests are in danger now.
B. Helping forests is helping humans.
C. Humans together with AI protect forests.
C 8. B 9. A 10. C
第一段提到“Scientists tell how healthy rainforests are by listening to the sounds of their wildlife.”,“that”指代前文提到的“通过聆听判断森林健康状况”这件事,选项C正确。
第四段提到“scientists say that the project helps them deal with a huge number of recordings. Without AI, it would take many years to study them all.”,因此AI通过快速处理大量录音来帮助科学家,选项A正确。

第三段小标题为“Look on bright sides of life”,空格前说“Positive people don’t need expensive things to be happy”,空格后虽未直接给出,但根据段落逻辑应补充积极人士的做法——关注生活中的小事。选项B“So focus on nice little things in your life”既承接前句否定昂贵物品,又点明关注小确幸,符合上下文。
第四段小标题为“Do fun things to cheer you up”,空格前说“Taking part in different kinds of activities is closely connected with your happiness”,空格后列举“watching films, painting, or enjoying gentle music”和“swimming and hiking”,说明空格处应指出空闲时做放松之事有帮助。选项E“Doing something relaxing when you are free can help a lot”概括了后文具体活动,且与“cheer you up”呼应。

短语provide sb. with sth.

In the heart of Shanghai, a quiet but powerful movement is growing. More and more middle school students are stepping out of their classrooms and into their communities — not for homework, but to volunteer.
Every Saturday morning, 14-year-old Li Hua teaches basic computer skills to the elderly at a local community center. “Many of them have never used a smartphone before,” Li says with a smile. “When they finally learn how to video-call their grandchildren, their eyes light up. That’s my reward.”
This volunteer work is not limited to Shanghai. Across China, schools are encouraging students to join in meaningful social activities. In 2025, the Ministry of Education (教育部) even asked schools to put community service into school lessons.
Why does volunteer work matter? Because volunteering helps young people develop responsibility and problem-solving skills. These qualities cannot be decided by test scores alone. Moreover, these experiences often inspire bigger dreams. In Changsha, some students start environmental clubs. Others also donate books to students in poor areas. Their small actions spread through the world, creating a kinder, more connected society.
As one student put it: “We’re not waiting to grow up to make a difference. We’re doing it now.”

During the activity, I will teach them Chinese greeting ways and introduce wonderful places of interest in Changsha, such as Orange Island. Besides, I will offer them handy tips about local delicious food and show them simple Chinese folk customs in free time.
I sincerely hope I can get this precious chance to build a bridge between two cultures.
Yours,
Li Hua
