Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman, a book by Richard P. Feynman, was a very interesting read. Feynman shares his thoughts on life in an easy and honest way through many fun stories.
Feynman loved learning new things so much. He always wanted to know more. You may think a great scientist only cares about science, right? But Feynman liked asking questions and wanted to learn about everything. He showed an interest in painting and even held his own art show. He also joined a Brazilian bongo band (巴西邦戈乐队) and played with its members. The list goes on and on! This made me think: We should be passionate about our work, but we should also try new hobbies.
I learned another lesson from Feynman’s science studies. That is to never just trust someone else’s data (数据). Every time he did a science test, he would check the numbers himself, even if (即便) others had shared them elsewhere. We often need to learn from the work of others. When their results are wrong, however, we will be misled (误导). So, we should never believe any information without thinking.
Feynman, I think, was a true scientist and a lover of life. He is no longer with us, but his work will still help many people.
1.Which hobby of Feynman’s is mentioned (提及) in the passage?
A.Writing science books. B.Painting and playing music.
C.Checking science data himself. D.Teaching physics.
2.What does the underlined word “passionate” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese?
A.疲惫的 B.敷衍的 C.主动的 D.热情的
3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Feynman cared about science and had no other hobbies.
B.The writer thinks people should not spend time on new hobbies.
C.People can get great ideas about work and life by reading this book.
D.We can trust the data if others have shared it elsewhere.
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A.An Interesting Book About Science
B.Richard Feynman: A Scientist Who loved Life
C.Richard Feynman’s Hobbies
D.How to Be Like Feynman
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C 4.B
【导语】本文通过费曼的故事,展现了他对科学和生活的热爱,强调保持好奇心、勇于尝试新事物以及独立思考的重要性。
1.细节理解题。根据“He showed an interest in painting and even held his own art show. He also joined a Brazilian bongo band (巴西邦戈乐队) and played with its members.”
根据“This made me think: We should be passionate about our work, but we should also try new hobbies.”和“I learned another lesson from Feynman’s science studies. That is to never just trust someone else’s data (数据).”可知,人们可以从费曼的书中获得一些关于工作和生活的想法。故选C。

“Hi Billy,” Jackson says when they walk outside. “Do you want to play basketball?”

As students, you may have many dreams. They can be very big like becoming Superman, or they can be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in your class.
If you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream come true?
Follow Your Heart by Australian writer Andrew Matthews tells us that making our dreams come true is life’s biggest challenge (挑战).
“You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible (不可能) for you to become a star. You won’t make your dream come true with these ideas,” the book says.
In fact, everyone can make his dream come true. The first important thing you must do is to remember what your dream is.
Don’t let it leave your heart (心). Keep telling yourself what you want. Do this step by step (一步步地) and your dream will come true faster. A big dream is, in fact, many small dreams.
Never give up (放弃) your dream. There will be difficulties on the road. But the biggest problem comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of (代替) watching TV will bring you better exam points. Saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book. When you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. Then you will be able to learn more skills and find new interests.

My hobby is studying the night sky because I love to see the stars. They seem small but look shiny. My sister’s hobby is playing the piano. Many people have hobbies like ours.
But some people have strange hobbies. Jim, a friend of mine, collects rocks. Everywhere he goes, he stops and looks at rocks. If he finds an interesting one, he takes it home and puts it into his collection jar (罐子). His mother says that he must stop. His room is full of rocks. My mother’s friend collects salt and pepper shakers (调料瓶). But she does not collect every salt and pepper shaker. They have to have something to do with bears. They can have a picture of a bear or look like a bear. On my way to school, I see a boy called David. He is reading a book on a bus. I say to him, “That is a good book.” He says, “Yes, it is a good book. You can see that it has a green cover. I love collecting books with green covers.” That’s a strange hobby.

B.The writer thinks people should not spend time on new hobbies.
C.People can get great ideas about work and life by reading this book.
D.We can trust the data if others have shared it elsewhere.
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A.An Interesting Book About Science
B.Richard Feynman: A Scientist Who loved Life
C.Richard Feynman’s Hobbies
D.How to Be Like Feynman
