Last year, a primary school in Jiangxi Province decided that it would no longer prepare meals. Instead, it would offer its students pre-made (预制的) meals. The move quickly became a hot topic across the country. Many parents said that they were worried about food safety. Some of them even sent home-made meals to school at lunchtime every day.
The Ministry of Education warns against introducing pre-made meals to schools. That’s mainly because there are not yet any national standards for such food. The market for pre-made meals has been developing quickly over the past few years. In 2022, there were more than 60,000 related companies (相关的公司) in China. And the number is still growing. In 2026, the market will reach more than one trillion yuan.
What has made pre-made meals so popular? They have many advantages. They’re quick and convenient to prepare. They also have a long shelf life (保质期). However, parents’ worries are not without reason. Pre-made meals may be acceptable every now and then, but few people eat them every day. Naturally, parents don’t want their children to do so either.
In fact, pre-made meals are all prepared by central kitchens. They may not be less healthy than freshly cooked food. The problem is how to make sure all these companies follow the hygiene (卫生) rules when they cook and store food. For now, the pre-made meal industry still has a long way to go.
52. How does the writer start this text?
A. By giving an example. B. By showing reasons.
C. By listing numbers. D. By raising a question.
53. Why is the Ministry of Education against pre-made meals?
A. Pre-made meals are too expensive.
B. It thinks that pre-made meals are not safe.
C. No national standards are set for pre-made meals.
D. Pre-made meals are not as healthy as home-made meals.
54. What do parents think of the pre-made meals according to Paragraph 3?
A. Quick and convenient. B. Delicious and healthy.
C. Terrible and unsafe. D. Worrying and unacceptable.
55. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Not all companies follow the hygiene rules.
B. Pre-made meals are less healthy than freshly cooked food.
C. Pre-made meals are all prepared in school kitchens.
D. The market for pre-made meals is a success.
A 53. C 54. D 55. A

Do you know where J. K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books? She wrote the first book in a coffee shop. Was it because she felt more creative when working there? The answer might be yes!
Scientists from the University of Illinois found that proper noise can make people more creative, The New York Times reported.
Scientists did tests on students. They put them into four groups. They then asked the students to do creative work. But each group did the work with different volume (音量) of background noise.
They found that students did best when they worked under proper noise—70 dB. This is about the same volume of background noise in a cafe. Students did worse in low noise (50 dB).This is the volume of a quiet room. They did the poorest when in a high-noise (85dB) environment. This is the noise level in a factory.
Proper noise can make people relax just enough so that they think more creatively. “It helps you think outside the box,” Raci Mehta, a lead researcher in the study, said to the Business Standard.
On the one hand, working in a very quiet place can strengthen our focus. But it also stops us from thinking abstractly (抽象地). “This is why if you are too focused on a problem and you can’t solve it,” said Mehta. “You leave it for some time and then come back to it and you get the solution.”
However, the scientists said that when you need to do detailed things, like checking a paper, a quiet place is better than a noisy one.

65. Yes, you’re right./You are right./I agree.
上文“Jane, I called you just now, but you didn’t answer.”A提到刚才给对方打电话,但是没人接,下文“I was reading a story called The Fox and the Crow (《狐狸和乌鸦》).”
下文“Oh, It’s very educational.” 或“How do you like it?”
上文“Would you like to tell me something about the story?”是A提出请求,询问对方是否愿意告诉自己一些关于这个故事的事情,下文“One day, the crow got a piece of meat. The fox was very hungry and wanted to eat the meat. Then the fox said hello to the crow. But the crow didn’t answer”是B开始讲述故事内容,可知此处是B同意了A的请求,进行肯定回答,用“Yes.”或“Yes, I’d love to.”回答。
上文“One day, the crow got a piece of meat. The fox was very hungry and wanted to eat the meat. Then the fox said hello to the crow. But the crow didn’t answer.”是B讲到狐狸打招呼但乌鸦没回答,下文“Then the fox said the crow had a beautiful voice and asked the crow to sing a song. The crow was very proud and wanted to sing. When it opened its mouth, the meat dropped and the fox got it.” 此处A的问句是为了引导故事继续发展,用特殊疑问句“What happened then/next?”
上文“The crow was really silly.”是A在评价乌鸦傻,下文“It was clear that the fox wasn’t telling the truth. Actually, the crow had a terrible singing voice.”是B在进一步解释狐狸没说真话且乌鸦嗓音难听,说明B完全赞同A的观点,“Yes, you’re right/You are right/I agree.”
