Dressed in a neat suit and wearing a high ponytail, Tan Ting, a 33-year-old lawyer, is livestreaming (直播) in a studio in Southwest China’s Chongqing city, with confidence and professionalism. The only unusual thing is that there is no sound in this livestream.
Tan believes that the popularization of legal knowledge for the hearing-impaired (听力受损的) is her life’s mission. In addition to delivering lectures on short-video sharing platforms, Tan is also readily available to offer relevant assistance, entirely free of charge, to the hearing-impaired through other messaging apps.
Sometimes, she needs to answer more than 10 video calls in a day to help hearing-impaired people solve legal problems, ranging from household quarrels to financial conflicts. Since the communication is based on sign language, it can often take Tan 30 or 40 minutes to figure things out. Yet she has never complained about her voluntary work.
“I’m a hearing-impaired person myself, so I know their feelings very well. For people with full hearing, it’s challenging to deal with legal matters. So, when it comes to people with hearing impairments, it’s even more difficult for them to access legal help,” Tan says, adding that she lost her hearing in a medical accident when she was only 8 years old and communicates with others through voice transcription (转写) apps.
After graduating from Chongqing Normal University in 2017, Tan joined a law firm as an assistant to Tang Shuai, a lawyer who uses sign language to defend hearing-impaired clients. “I wish that more lawyers would learn sign language and promote legal knowledge among hearing-impaired citizens,” says Tang Shuai, explaining the reason why he employed Tan and 29 other hearing-impaired people to work as his assistants in 2017.
24.What does Tan Ting see as her mission?
A.Making money by providing legal advice online.
B.Working as a professional assistant in a top law firm.
C.Spreading legal knowledge among the hearing-impaired.
D.Becoming a famous livestreamer on short-video platforms.
25.Why does Tan Ting help the hearing-impaired without complaints?
A.Because she gets a high salary from the law firm for this voluntary work.
B.Because she wants to gain fame by doing livestreams and giving lectures.
C.Because she is hearing-impaired herself and fully relates to their difficulties.
D.Because she is required to offer relevant assistance and solve legal problems.
26.Which of the following best describes Tan Ting?
A.Professional and empathetic. B.Focused and respected.
C.Responsible but overconfident. D.Warm-hearted but inexperienced.
27.What can we infer from Paragraph 5?
A.Tang Shuai was the first lawyer to help the hearing-impaired in China.
B.Tang Shuai is committed to improving legal access for the hearing-impaired.
C.Tan Ting was the only hearing-impaired assistant working for Tang Shuai.
D.Tan Ting became a top lawyer soon after she graduated from university.
【答案】24.C 25.C 26.A 27.B

C
At a restaurant in Florence, a group gathers to discuss Sarah Winman’s Still Life. On the walls hang the photos of the destructive 1966 Arno flood that planted the seed of her story. Participants, once strangers, form a literary circle. This is a new type of holiday centering on reading rather than typical leisure.
Lyn Margerison, one of the participants, was first drawn to an online advertisement of the Books in Places project and has since travelled from Dorset to Florence, Budapest and beyond. “It showed one of my very favourite books arranged on a table with a glass of wine, set against a square in Florence. The caption (说明文字) asked: ‘Do you enjoy reading books in the places in which they are set?’” she recalls.
Books in Places was founded by Paul Wright in 2023. Now he organises short breaks in the UK and longer journeys to many countries, where people read in the very places stories are set.
“Location is at the heart of everything,” says Wright. “Exploring the streets, landscapes and atmosphere of the setting provides a fascinating insight into the story. A scene that was once just words on a page suddenly comes alive when you’ve walked the same alleys, tasted the same food or felt the same light as the characters.”
This isn’t just niche travel. A 2025 survey shows many UK travellers pick destinations for reading, among which Millennials (千禧一代) rise to 60%. Meanwhile, it’s estimated that literary tourism may hit $3.3bn by 2034. Readers no longer just read by the pool but want reading to open new views of the world: sailing the Nile with Death on the Nile, walking St. Malo while talking about All the Light We Cannot See, and following fossil-hunting paths in Lyme Regis from Remarkable Creatures.
As the author Jeanette Winterson once said, “Books are like doors; when one opens, a new world waits.” Reading holidays are literal steps through those doors, into new worlds of friendship, curiosity and shared discovery.
28.Why did Margerison travel to multiple places?
A.To visit her friends living abroad. B.To collect materials for her writing.
C.To attend professional book discussions. D.To experience the settings of her favorite books.
29.According to Wright, what do participants gain from Books in Places?
A.A chance to meet famous writers. B.A real connection to literary worlds.
C.A stronger bond with local people. D.A better sense of European cultures.
30.What does the underlined word “niche” probably mean in paragraph 5?
A.Common in daily life. B.Centered on famous sites.
C.Limited to specific groups. D.Available in many countries.
31.Which of the following could be a suitable title for the text?
A.Literary Travel: Stepping into the Story B.Book Clubs: A New Way of Socializing
C.Classic Novels: A Door to Modern Cities D.Historic Sites: The Power of Ancient Light
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.C 31.A
根据第二段中的“Lyn Margerison, one of the participants, was first drawn to an online advertisement of the Books in Places project and has since travelled from Dorset to Florence, Budapest and beyond. “It showed one of my very favourite books arranged on a table with a glass of wine, set against a square in Florence. The caption (说明文字) asked: ‘Do you enjoy reading books in the places in which they are set?’” she recalls.(参与者之一林恩·马杰里森最初被“书中之地”项目的一则在线广告吸引,从那以后,她从多塞特郡旅行到了佛罗伦萨、布达佩斯等地。“广告里,我最喜欢的一本书放在桌子上,旁边有一杯酒,背景是佛罗伦萨的一个广场。说明文字问道:‘你喜欢在故事发生的地方读书吗?’”她回忆道)”可知,马杰里森去多个地方是为了体验她最喜欢的书的故事发生地。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段中的““Location is at the heart of everything,” says Wright. “Exploring the streets, landscapes and atmosphere of the setting provides a fascinating insight into the story. A scene that was once just words on a page suddenly comes alive when you’ve walked the same alleys, tasted the same food or felt the same light as the characters.”(“地点是一切的核心,”赖特说。“探索故事发生地的街道、风景和氛围,能让人对故事有迷人的深入了解。当你走过和角色们相同的小巷、品尝过相同的食物或感受到相同的光线时,曾经只是书页上文字的场景突然变得生动起来。”)”可知,赖特认为参与者能从“书中之地”项目中获得与文学世界的真实联系。
30.词句猜测题。根据第五段中的“A 2025 survey shows many UK travellers pick destinations for reading, among which Millennials (千禧一代) rise to 60%. Meanwhile, it’s estimated that literary tourism may hit $3.3bn by 2034.(2025年的一项调查显示,许多英国旅行者会选择适合阅读的目的地,其中千禧一代占比高达60%。
D
Throwing your plastic bottles in the recycling bin may ease your guilt about your climate impact. But recycling plastic will not address the plastic pollution crisis — and it’s time we stop pretending as such. We’ve been misled to believe that sea turtles would stop choking on plastic waste if it’s faithfully stuck into the recycling bin.
The cheat was intentional. Powerful fossil (化石) fuel and chemical companies knew in the 1970s plastic recycling would never handle the plastic waste. Consumers and policymakers then were also realizing the severe environmental consequences to single-use throwaway plastics. Feeling the heat, companies banded together to plant positive messaging about plastic recycling across society, to prevent restrictions on their products.
Plastic wasn’t designed to be recycled. Roughly 16,000 chemicals can be found in plastic, many of them purposefully added for characteristics like flexibility, strength, color, and resistance to sunlight. Those chemical combinations vary considerably, and these different types must all be sorted and recycled separately. What’s more, plastic loses its functionality when recycled. A plastic bottle can only be recycled into another one two or three times before becoming something like carpeting or clothing, which typically ends up in a landfill polluting the air, water and soil. Thus, recycling doesn’t sustainably prevent plastic waste from the environment — it just delays it.
In less than a century, plastic has reached every corner of the globe, even the most unexpected places: arctic sea ice, remote mountains, rain and even throughout our bodies. Micro plastics have been found in nearly every human organ system. A study published earlier this year in The Lancet found plastic is responsible for at least $1.5 trillion in health-related damages worldwide a year.
So what can we do? First, companies need to reduce plastic production and shift to reusable and refillable systems. If reducing packaging or using reusable packaging is not possible, companies should at least shift to paper, cardboard, glass, or metal. These can be made from recycled materials and actually get recycled again. Companies are not going to do this on their own, which is why policymakers need to require them to do so. It’s the only way to guarantee people are prioritized over plastic.
32.Why was plastic recycling actually advocated in the first place?
A.To restrict the cost of companies involved.
B.To sustain plastic production and its market.
C.To popularize single-use throwaway plastics.
D.To reduce plastic waste on a substantial scale.
33.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The functionality of recycled plastic.
B.The chemicals plastic products contain.
C.The process of plastic design and production.
D.The reasons why plastic recycling is ineffective.
34.What does the author think of the presence of plastic?
A.Unavoidable. B.Favorable.
C.Confusing. D.Alarming.
35.How can people’s priority over plastic be ensured according to the author?
A.By reusable and refillable systems.
B.By flexibility of relevant policies.
C.By sound governance and regulation.
D.By alternative reusable packaging.
根据第二段中的“Feeling the heat, companies banded together to plant positive messaging about plastic recycling across society, to prevent restrictions on their products.(感受到压力后,各大企业联手在社会上大肆宣传塑料回收的正面说法,以此规避自身产品受到限制)”可知,企业推广塑料回收,是为了避免产品受到限制,从而维持塑料生产与市场。
根据第三段中的“Plastic wasn’t designed to be recycled. Roughly 16,000 chemicals can be found in plastic, many of them purposefully added for characteristics like flexibility, strength, color, and resistance to sunlight.(塑料本就并非为回收利用而制造。塑料中大约含有一万六千种化学物质,其中许多是为了赋予材料柔韧性、强度、色泽以及抗光照等特性而特意添加的)”可知,本段从材质、成分、回收性能等方面说明塑料回收效果差的原因。
34.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“In less than a century, plastic has reached every corner of the globe, even the most unexpected places: arctic sea ice, remote mountains, rain and even throughout our bodies.(在不到一个世纪的时间里,塑料已经遍布全球各个角落,甚至出现在北极海冰、偏远山区、雨水乃至人体之中这些意想不到的地方)”可知,塑料污染范围极广、危害巨大,现状令人忧心。
根据最后一段中的“Companies are not going to do this on their own, which is why policymakers need to require them to do so. It’s the only way to guarantee people are prioritized over plastic.(企业不会主动做出改变,这就需要政策制定者出台规定约束它们。这是确保人类利益优先于塑料产业的唯一办法)”可知,企业不会主动改变,需要政策制定者出台要求,也就是通过完善的治理与监管来实现。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Many believe that you must have born talent to become an artist. Talent refers to a natural ability for a particular skill. 36 Many artists displayed extraordinary abilities at a young age. Talented individuals may find it easier to learn and master artistic techniques. This can result in quicker progress and potentially more innovative work.
However, art involves a vast number of skills that can be learned over time. Artists who put in consistent effort over long periods often see significant improvements. There are many artists who started with little apparent talent but became successful through dedication. 37
Hard work usually means that there is a strong motivation behind it. Motivation often determines how persistently an artist practices and learns. Toughness and adaptability are important qualities going hand in hand with hard work. Toughness helps artists handle criticism and setbacks. 38
So what is more important? Often, the most successful artists possess both natural talent and a high work criterion. Talent might provide an initial advantage, but hard work ensures continuous growth. 39 Artists must be committed to lifelong learning, which requires hard work regardless of talent.
40 Access to quality education can greatly enhance an artist’s development. Teachers can provide valuable feedback, introduce new techniques, and inspire creativity. Regular exposure to different art forms, cultures, and experiences can also enrich an artist's work.
It was the busiest Saturday of the year at the “Golden Spoon” bakery. The line stretched to the door, and the air was thick with the warm, comforting smell of fresh bread and sugary pastries. Sarah, a part-time student worker, was struggling to keep up. Her hands moved quickly — boxing bread, wrapping cookies, and tapping the register — but the orders kept coming. Sweat dotted her forehead as she rushed between the counter and the display cases. She had only been working here for two months, and days like this still made her nervous. Her heart pounded every time a new customer stepped up.
In the chaos, a well-dressed gentleman stepped forward and ordered a dozen expensive macarons (马卡龙) in delicate shades of pink and green. He handed her a fifty-dollar bill with a calm, easy smile. With three customers waiting impatiently behind him, Sarah’s mind was racing. She grabbed the change automatically, her fingers moving faster than her thoughts. In her hurry, she mistook the bill for a hundred and gave him change accordingly — fifty dollars too much. The gentleman nodded politely, slipped the cash into his leather wallet, and left without a second glance, the bell on the door ringing softly behind him.
It wasn’t until an hour later, when the lunchtime rush finally died down and the bakery grew quiet, that Sarah counted the cash in the register. Her heart stopped. The drawer was fifty dollars short — nearly two days’wages for her. She leaned against the cold counter, her mind spinning. Mrs. Higgins, the manager, was known for her strictness. She ran the bakery with military precision and tolerated few mistakes. Sarah had heard stories: a cashier once cried after being scolded for a ten-dollar error. If Mrs. Higgins found out, Sarah might lose her job, a position she desperately needed to pay for her college tuition. She stared at the register, her throat tight, trying to figure out what to do.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
In her anxiety, Sarah heard the familiar footsteps approaching.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just then, the door was pushed open and the gentleman walked back in.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In her anxiety, Sarah heard the familiar footsteps approaching. It was Mrs. Higgins, the strict manager. Sarah’s throat went dry instantly, hands trembling nervously beside the register. She struggled with whether to confess her careless mistake, afraid of being fired and losing the part-time job to pay college fees. After struggling for a while, she made up her mind. Just as she was about to open her mouth to admit the fifty-dollar error, the shop door’s bell jingled suddenly, breaking the awkward silence in the quiet bakery.
Just then, the door was pushed open and the gentleman walked back in. He spotted the anxious Sarah at once and took fifty dollars out of his wallet. He explained he had noticed the extra change after leaving and hurried back to return the money. Greatly relieved, Sarah thanked him repeatedly. Witnessing everything, Mrs. Higgins smiled and praised Sarah for her honesty. The unexpected return of the money saved Sarah’s job and taught her a precious lesson about kindness and human goodwill.

Traveling, attending exhibitions, and studying art history contribute to a deeper understanding and broader perspective.
A.Van Gogh is one example.
B.Other factors can help, too.
C.Working with other artists is crucial.
D.Besides, the art world is dynamic and evolving.
E.Being an artist is not dependent on talent but hard work.
F.Adaptability allows them to evolve with trends and technologies.
G.In art, this emerges as a good understanding of color, composition, or form.

Professor Dan Hansong from Nanjing University has noticed a 56 (worry) trend among English majors: many struggle with reading long novels or even short stories. He believes this lack of 57 (patient) is a global issue in educational contexts. 67.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
In her anxiety, Sarah heard the familiar footsteps approaching.
