B1U3 Getting along with others Integrated skills Describing the qualities of a good friend Discourse analysis: 【What】This section belongs to the theme context of Man and Society. It centers on the unit topic “ Qualities of a Good Friend”. It presents Tim’s problems and the advice from his friend Patrick through listening materials, and shows Patrick’s views on the qualities of a good friend by means of his diary. The content is closely related to the topic and close to students’ real life. 【Why】 These contents are designed to enable students to extract key information and master expressions of giving advice in specific situations. Meanwhile, they guide students to understand the meaning of true friendship and establish a correct outlook on making friends. The text also helps students perceive the stylistic features of diaries through examples, laying a foundation for subsequent writing and integrating language learning with emotional education. 【How】Guided by the thematic situation, the text is arranged in a progressive way. It first conducts language input through listening activities, then helps students realize good qualities by reading the diary, and finally guides them to summarize writing features through discussion and finish a diary. The whole design moves from input to internalization and from understanding to application step by step. Students Analysis: They are freshmen of senior high school.
