A
Humans are made of a lot of water. An adult human body is about 60% water. Water helps us move, think, and stay healthy. However, when we look at animals, we can see clear differences in how much water their bodies contain.
A jellyfish has the highest water content among animals. About 95% of its body is water. This is why it looks almost transparent (透明的)and feels very soft. It has no bones or hard body parts. Because its body is mostly water, a jellyfish can float easily and move gently with ocean currents (洋流)instead of swimming with strength.
A fish also has a very high water content. Most fish are made up of about 70–80% water. Water fills their muscles and helps them stay flexible. Since fish live in water all the time, their bodies are designed to match their surroundings. This high water content helps them swim smoothly and save energy as they move.
A blue jay, a colourful bird, has less water in its body than a fish. Its body is about 65% water. Birds have feathers, light bones, and strong muscles. These parts reduce water content but help the bird fly, keep warm, and move quickly through the air.
A dog has a water content similar to humans, at about 60%. Water helps a dog digest food, carry nutrients, and control body temperature. When dogs run or play, they lose water, so drinking enough water is important for them to stay healthy and active.
28. Which of the following has the highest water content?
A. A human. B. A jellyfish. C. A dog. D. A fish.
29. Why can a jellyfish float easily in the ocean?
A. Because its body is mostly made of water.
B. Because it has thick skin that traps air.
C. Because its body is heavy and full of bones.
D. Because it has strong muscles for fast swimming.
30. What helps fish save energy while swimming?
A. Their feathers and light bones.
B. Their high water content in muscles.
C. Their ability to float with ocean currents.
D. Their water content being similar to humans.
31. Which of the following has a water content most similar to a human?
A. A blue jay. B. A fish. C. A dog. D. A jellyfish.
32. What helps a blue jay fly and stay warm?
A. Its feathers, light bones, and strong muscles.
B. Its ability to float with ocean currents.
C. Its high water content and soft body.
D. Its thick skin and heavy bones.
B
Everyone has a hobby that brings them joy. Some people like sports, while others prefer music. My hobby is reading books, and I have loved reading ever since I was a child. It all started when my parents gave me a book about animals. I was fascinated by the stories and pictures, and I couldn’t put the book down.
Reading has become a big part of my life. I read different kinds of books, from fairy tales to science fiction. Each book takes me to a different world. When I read, I can forget about my problems and simply enjoy the story. I also learn a lot from reading about history, science, and different cultures.
Among all the books I’ve read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry remains my favorite. It is a beautiful story about friendship and love. I’ve read it many times, and each time I discover something new. Reading has helped me become a better person. It has taught me to be patient and to think deeply about things.
I hope more people will discover the joy of reading. It is a wonderful hobby that can bring you happiness and knowledge.

D. Because its story is good and he can find new things when reading it.
37. What is the main purpose of this passage?

Wind power is a very clean source of energy. This is how wind power works: wind makes windmills spin. When the windmills spin, they make electricity. People can use the electricity.
A lot of people think that wind power is new, but that’s not true. For thousands of years, people have used wind to sail boats and move water. We still do that today, but these days we mostly use wind power to make electricity.
Wind power is a very popular source of energy. Most people think that we should use it more. First of all, it’s clean. Windmills don’t pollute the air at all. Second, we can use wind power forever. After all, we will always have wind. Also, wind power is cheap, and it’s getting even cheaper.
A lot of people don’t understand wind power very well. They believe that there are problems with wind power, but many of those problems are not real. For example, some people say that windmills are dangerous for birds. That used to be true, but it isn’t true anymore. Old windmills killed birds because they spun very fast. New windmills spin slowly, and they aren’t dangerous for birds.
However, there are real problems with windmills. One problem is that many people think windmills are very ugly. This is a problem for some areas. Also, wind doesn’t blow all the time, so we can’t use wind power all the time. Finally, windmills are noisy.
Wind power is becoming more and more common. Right now, more than 80 countries use wind power. About 8 percent of the world’s power comes from the wind. For some countries, that number is a lot higher. Wind power gives Denmark more than 20 percent of its electricity.
38. What did people use wind power for thousands of years ago?
A. Making electricity. B. Killing dangerous birds.
C. Protecting the environment. D. Sailing boats and moving water.
39. What does the underlined word “spin” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Fly up and high. B. Come in and out.
C. Go around and around. D. Jump up and down.
40. What is the writer trying to do in paragraphs 4 and 5?
A. To warn that the windmills are noisy.
B. To explain why windmills are dangerous.
C. To show the real problems with windmills.
D. To teach how to make windmills spin slowly.
41. How much of the world’s power comes from the wind?
A. About 2.5%. B. About 8%. C. About 25%. D. About 80%.
42. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Wind power has a long history. B. Wind power is used everywhere.
C. Wind power is common and clean. D. Wind power has many disadvantages.

encouraged(鼓励)符合句意;stopped(停止)、prevented(阻止)和discouraged(使气馁)均不符合语境。
根据前文“I found it fun…” practised(练习)符合语境;hated(讨厌)、avoided(避免)和forgot(忘记)均不符合语境。
give up(放弃)符合句意,“didn’t give up”表示没有放弃;keep on(继续)、stick to(坚持)和hold on(等一下/坚持)均不符合语境。
got(变得)符合句意,got better意为“变得更好”;looked(看起来)通常修饰外表;turned(变成)通常指颜色的变化;made(制作/使得)均不符合语境。
happy(开心的)符合句意;sad(伤心的)、angry(生气的)和tired(疲惫的)均不符合语境。
破折号后的内容“I often spend hours working on a story.” patient(耐心的)符合语境;lazy(懒惰的)、careless(粗心的)和rude(粗鲁的)均不符合语境。
express(表达)符合语境,express feelings/ideas是固定搭配;hide(隐藏)、show(展示)和tell(告诉)均不符合语境。
前文提到“writing is still my favourite thing to do”,此处的it指代前面提到的这件“事情”,因此应用动词do。doing(做)符合句意,keep doing it意为“继续做这件事”;making(制作)、writing(写)和reading(读)均不符合语境。
writer(作家)符合语境;teacher(老师)、doctor(医生)和singer(歌手)均脱离了本文的核心主题“写作”。
破折号后提到“it makes life more colourful”,且结合第一段“help you grow”,可知追随兴趣是一件非常有意义、有价值的事。important(重要的)符合文章积极向上的主旨;useless(无用的)、boring(无聊的)和tiring(令人疲劳的)均为贬义词,与文章情感基调不符。

C. A dog. D. A fish.
