I’ve been in China for a month. My Chinese friends are kind enough to make me feel at home, but I’ve noticed some interesting differences in manners.
In the UK, people use the word “please” all the time to be polite. The Chinese have their own way of being polite. For example, they normally use Nin hao to greet others in a formal situation. If you want to show politeness and respect for others, you can’t go wrong with Nin hao.
I’ve also realized that the Chinese behave differently from the British when it comes to praise. If someone says my Chinese is good, I’ll be pleased and tell them I love learning the language. But when I praise my Chinese friends, instead of saying “thank you”, they often smile and reply, “Nali, nali.” They are too modest to accept praise openly.
Here, eating is a special time for people to connect. One day, my host was nice enough to invite me to dinner, and he was so welcoming. He was telling me to eat more and kept putting food on my plate. This was his way of showing how much he cared about me. I ate so much because I was too polite to refuse! In the UK, people show that they care about their guests in a different way. They usually ask if everything is OK or if you want another drink.
It can be hard at first to get used to all these differences. But if you are in another country, my advice is: ________________________________.
50. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To tell a joke. B. To lead the topic. C. To summarize.
51. What does the underlined word “modest” in para. 3 mean?
A. Not proud. B. Not brave. C. Not confident.
52. Why did the writer eat so much at the dinner?
A. Because he felt at home.
B. Because he wanted to be polite.
C. Because the host kept putting food on the plate.
53. Which sentence best fits the blank ________ in the last paragraph?
A. All roads lead to Rome.
B. Every coin has two sides.
C. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
【答案】50. B 51. A 52. B 53. C
【解析】

第四段作者说“I ate so much because I was too polite to refuse”,说明他吃得多是为了礼貌。

At the 2026 Beijing Yizhuang Robot Half Marathon (马拉松), a smart four-legged robot named Tutu appeared in public for the first time. Tutu was developed successfully as a guide robot for blind people by Gaode Company in April, 2026. The robot helped Wang Zihao, a young runner with poor eyesight, finish the marathon safely. It brought the warm power of modern technology to this exciting sports event.
During the activity, Tutu sensed the environment carefully by using its cameras and sensors (传感器). It could lead and plan the safe walking ways. It could also quickly find different kinds of things that might stop people from walking on the way. When danger came, it told the user clearly by voice and gentle moves.
In our country, over 17 million people have eye problems, while there are about 400 real guide dogs working now. It’s really hard to train guide dogs because training takes a long time and costs much money. As a result, many blind families can not have one.
To solve these problems, robot guide dogs like Tutu show up at the right time. For one thing, they do not need special roads. They can find safe roads easily in busy streets for blind people. For another thing, they can notice traffic lights clearly and keep a close watch on road conditions in real time. With these advantages, such robots win high public attention.
In the age of technology, guide robots like Tutu have helped blind people walk freely and brought them new hope. And this is just a start, not the end.
54. What does “It” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Tutu. B. Wang Zihao. C. Gaode Company.
55. How are real guide dogs different from robot guide dogs?
A. They need special roads.
B. They want public attention.
C. They cost more time and money to train.
56. What problem can robot guide dogs solve?
A. Blind people can’t walk freely.
B. Blind people can’t run quickly.
C. Blind people can’t hear voices clearly.
57. Which is the writer’s opinion?
A. Tutu uses cameras and sensors.
B. Robot guide dogs bring new hope.
C. Over 17 million people have eye problems.
【答案】54. A 55. C 56. A 57. B

【55题详解】
第三段写明真实导盲犬的培育难点:“It’s really hard to train guide dogs because training takes a long time and costs much money.”,这直接点明真实导盲犬和机器导盲犬的区别是培育耗时久、花费高昂。
【56题详解】
最后一段点明机器人解决的出行难题:“guide robots like Tutu have helped blind people walk freely”,这直接说明机器导盲犬可以解决盲人无法自由行走的问题。
【57题详解】
最后一段给出作者主观评价句:“guide robots like Tutu have helped blind people walk freely and brought them new hope.”,表明作者观点是像图图这类导盲机器人帮助盲人自由行走,为他们带来了新希望。

Zhang Xue is a famous Chinese businessman and motorcycle racer. He was born in a small village in Hunan in 1987. His story is very inspiring for young people. He left school at 14 and worked as a learner in a repair shop. His hands were often dirty with oil, but he had a big dream of making the best Chinese motorcycle.
In 2006, when he was 19, he did something amazing to get noticed. He rode his old motorcycle for 100 kilometers in the heavy rain just to follow a TV reporter. He wanted a chance to show his skills. His hard work paid off, and he became a professional (职业的) racer.
However, he soon realized that he could not always ride the fastest bikes because they were all made by foreign brands (外国品牌). So, he made a brave decision: “If I cannot ride the fastest bike, I will build one.” In 2024, he started his own company, “Zhang Xue Motor,” in Chongqing. He focused on developing powerful engines by himself.
In March 2026, his dream came true. A French rider won the World Superbike Championship in Portugal on a Zhang Xue motorcycle. This was the first time a Chinese brand won this top race, breaking the long history of European and Japanese brands winning.
Zhang Xue did not give up even when people laughed at him. He proved that with love and hard work, an ordinary person can stand on top of the world. He refused to just copy others and chose to create his own path. His story tells us that we should follow our hearts and never stop trying, no matter how hard the road is.

To change this, I took practical steps. I learned ten new words daily and reviewed them. I listened to English songs and watched videos, and practised speaking with classmates after class.

51. What does the underlined word “modest” in para. 3 mean?
