【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了某航空公司关于旅客随身行李的尺寸、重量、数量限制、超标费用以及禁止携带物品的安全规定。
第21题.B 细节理解与信息整合。解析:A.
文章明确指出“if your bag breaks more than one rule, then you must pay a fee for each rule broken.”
解析:A.

Successor uses dark humor to explore family bonds, education, and personal growth. Like a Rolling Stone

If you’re concerned about the cost of gas and the environmental impact of gas-powered cars, and don’t want to worry about the charging challenges associated with the pure electric vehicle (EV), it’s time to take a closer look at a hybrid(混合的)electric vehicle (HEV). While salespeople might simply advise you to “plug in daily and use gas for longer trips,” understanding the underlying mechanics is key to determining if an HEV truly fits your needs. Essentially, an HEV offers you the best of gas cars and EVs.
An HEV has two sources of power:an internal combustion(燃烧)engine (ICE) and at least one electric motor. There are two main types of HEV: parallel(并联式)hybrid and series hybrid.
The parallel hybrid (PHEV) aims to keep the core designs of the conventional gas-powered vehicles while lowering the operation costs and improving environmental performance. Reduced to its basics, its system uses ICE and electric motors to power the wheels——either together or independently. This structure performs reliably on long-distance journeys and complex road conditions, where the combustion engine operates efficiently.
In the case of series hybrid (SHEV), the vehicle runs only on electricity, which is from the battery. When the battery is exhausted, the ICE switches on—not to drive the wheels directly, but to power the generator and charge the battery. This setup offers smoother and quieter driving operation which is similar to pure electric vehicles. It’s generally more eco-friendly, and further reduces the cost of use.
In today’s market, conventional gas cars are going significantly cheaper, while stylish pure electric vehicles have become symbols of modern status. The HEV, striking a practical balance between these two extremes, certainly deserves a closer look. Electric

A. Replacing the generator. B. Driving the wheels.
C. Starting the electric motor. D. Charging the battery.
23. In which aspect are PHEVs generally better than SHEVs?
A. Mountain road driving. B. In-city transportation.

If you are a distance runner, should your training consist only of running long distances? Or is it also beneficial to do some yoga, lift weights, or swim laps?
Cross-training involves integrating different types of exercise into your fitness routine to improve overall performance, reduce the risk of injury, and add variety to your workouts. The key to effectively combining exercise lies in balancing different types to target various muscle groups while ensuring a well-rounded workout. The right intensity is equally crucial—exercises should challenge the body for maximized progress without exhaustion.
Here are some common types for cross-training exercise and their benefits.
● Cardiovascular: Boost cardiovascular health and longevity, burn calories effectively for fat loss, and support key heart-health markers.
● Flexibility: Enhance joint range of motion and posture, prevent injuries, and preserve functional independence.
● Strength: Increase muscle mass and functional capacity, aid weight management and reduce injury risk by strengthening joints and stabilizers.
● HIT: Rapidly improve aerobic and anaerobic performance, promote long-lasting calorie and fat burn, lower injury risk, and offer time-efficient full-body conditioning.
If your exercise program leaves you physically tired, you probably should stop exercising for a day or two and re-evaluate your overall health. However, if exercising leaves you mentally tired, cross-training could help you look forward to working out. If a friend trains in a different sport, you might try training together. You both will benefit, physically and mentally!
21. Which is a key method of successful cross-training?
A. Following a fitness routine.
B. Balancing exercise types.
C. Focusing on a single muscle group.
D. Maintaining high intensity.
22. Which types of exercise are the most effective for fat loss?
A. Cardiovascular and HIIT.
B. Cardiovascular and Strength.
C. Flexibility and HIIT.
D. Flexibility and Strength.
23. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph?
A. Check overall fitness daily.
B. Rest when feeling mentally tired.
C. Compare progress with friends.
D. Find a partner from another sport.

Many towns and cities along the Blues Trail have planned festivals, exhibitions and live music to mark the 100th birthday of Riley B. King, better known as B.B. King, who won 15 Grammy Awards and died in 2015. He is credited by many for helping to bring the blues to a global stage. Here are 4 spots along the Blues Trail where visitors can celebrate B.B. Jackson, Mississippi
Jackson hosted the kick-off of the centennial(百年的)celebration of B.B. King’s birth in January, and it will conclude the festivities with the Legacies of Empowerment programme at the National Folk Festival from 7-9 November. Clarksdale, Mississippi
Visitors can see one of King’s famous Gibson guitars, which he named Lucille, at the Delta Blues Museum, and watch interviews with musicians who played with King. Music lovers should also visit the Ground Zero Blues Club to see modern blues musicians carry on the tradition any night of the week.
Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis is marking the centennial with themed tours, exhibitions and events, including a special display of rarely seen photos of King and other blues legends at the Withers Museum & Gallery; and a special Mojo Music Tour which takes guests to blues- related attractions and sites. Perhaps the most anticipated event is the Beale Street Birthday Bash on 14 September, a night of music on the legendary street.

Cornell Note-Taking Method
The Cornell method of taking notes was developed by Dr. Walter Pauk of Cornell University in the 1950s. It is a widely used system for noting material from a lecture or reading, and for reviewing and retaining that material.
Tips for Effective Use:
Self-Quiz Questions: Write simple questions in the cue column to test yourself later.
Summarize Even If Incomplete: Reflect on key points in your own words, even if your notes aren’t perfect.
Color Coding: Use colors to highlight key terms, definitions, and examples. This makes your notes clearer and more engaging.
Next Steps: Add actions you need to take in the summary to keep learning proactive.
Use Your Notes to Study
Concentrate on the left-hand column and summary at the bottom. These contain the most important points you will need for your assignment or exam.
Cover the right side of the page (the note-taking column) with your hand or another sheet of paper. Quiz yourself by giving answers to the potential questions that you included in the left column. Then uncover the right side and check your comprehension.
Reviewing frequently over a longer period of time, rather than cramming before a test, will greatly increase your retention and deepen your understanding of course material. With your effective notes made using the Cornell system, you will be able to study efficiently and with minimal stress.
21. What do Cue Column and Summary Column have in common?
A. Focus on main ideas. B. Be filled in during class.
C. Record detailed lecture content. D. Serve as decorative areas.
22. Which is the correct way to study with Cornell notes?
A. Rewrite full notes regularly.
B. Cover notes and test recall before checking.
C. Skip the cue column during revision.
D. Intensive memorization right before exams.
23. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce note-taking history.
B. To compare note-taking methods.
C. To describe the benefits of color coding.
D. To promote an effective note-taking method.

AI and Energy: Is AI Increasing Power Demand?
AI consumes large amounts of energy: a single ChatGPT response uses around 10 times the electricity of a Google search, and its more than 400 million weekly active users increase demand. DeepSeek claimed higher energy efficiency but also faced doubts, keeping AI’s energy use a persistent concern. Here is the daily energy comparison between ChatGPT and Google search.
Operation Type
Energy Per Search
Daily Energy Use
ChatGPT Response
0.0029kWh
621.4 MWh
Google Search
0.0003 kWh
10.8 MWh
Given the energy consumption, AI adoption won’t slow as firms view it as essential, so a smart strategy is needed to employ AI’s benefits while meeting sustainable goals. Luckily, industry experts are developing various solutions to address this challenge. Hardware Upgrades
Use power-limited, carbon-efficient hardware (e.g., IBM’s 2025 new chips) to cut energy use.
Simple Models
Firms choose smaller, low-energy, cost-effective models for specific needs.
Efficient Training
End underperforming model training early; design models for energy efficiency (sustainable design).
Open Source
AI firms share energy-saving tools instead of competing privately.
Renewable Energy
Build data centers near regions rich in renewable energy.
Potential Solutions
The AI-related energy risks have gained visibility, triggering public awareness and action. Yet focusing on energy alone cannot break the cycle of compounding environmental and operational pressures. “To address AI-energy risks and unlock long-term value, companies and investors must move beyond their narrow roles in the AI value chain. They should pursue strategies that create shared value by advancing business goals while benefiting society and the environment,” notes Lauren Smart in World Economic Forum.
21. How much more daily energy does ChatGPT consume than Google Search?
A. 632.2 MWh. B. 621.4 MWh. C. 610.6 MWh. D. 10.8 MWh.

Text, Email, App, or Paper Note?
How Teachers Like to Communicate With Parents
These days, teachers have a wide range of communication options for reaching parents—newsletters, emails, messaging apps, phone calls, and the classic flyer or paper notice.
Modern apps and platforms have allowed teachers to share videos and images, show parents student progress, and provide live updates and announcements to all the families in their class. Still, experts say teachers should be strategic about how they use tech tools to communicate with parents. For instance, they should be mindful of the fact that not every family has access to smartphones with internet access. And teachers should be clear with their expectations and boundaries for using the tools, so parents don’t always expect immediate responses after working hours.
Educators voted in an informal poll(调查)about how technology has affected their communication with parents. Half of the 510 respondents said technology has helped, while 5% said it hurts their communication. Forty-five percent said it has pros and cons. Here are some of their responses.
“Proof of documentation sent. If they choose not to read it or respond, not my problem. There is no more, ‘he said, she said’.”
Elle M.
“No more miscommunication. All papers are saved for parents, students, admin, and teachers. Yes, we had homework. Yes, they were given due dates well in advance. Work was submitted? [Show] me on your computer.”
Phil K.
“I think parents pay more attention when I hand their child a piece of paper. I can send so many reminders electronically and still have parents not pay attention. We have alarms and calendars on our phones, and we avoid using them.”
Christina W.
“Parents still don’t read emails and still only read and respond to text messages. It’s amazing that we haven't figured this out.”
Shawn R.
21. What do experts suggest teachers do when using tech tools to communicate with parents?
A. Make instant responses. B. Set communication rules.
C. Provide personalized visuals. D. Recommend smartphone apps.
22. What do both Elle M. and Phil K. value most about digital communication with parents?
A. Higher efficiency. B. Reduced paper use.
C. Improved accountability. D. Greater parent engagement.
23. Which form of communication does Christina W. find most effective?
A. Phone calls. B. Text messages. C. Paper notes. D. Email reminders.

Travel has always been a huge part of our lives. It shapes our conversations, guides our choices, and creates memories that stay with us long after the journey ends. Here are the top four for our kids.
Iceland
Yes it’s an expensive destination, but there are ways to keep costs down-such as bringing food with you on the plane from home, visiting off season (such as the October half term), visiting the free activities (there are lots of them), self-driving, swimming in geothermal pools, riding horses, whale watching and walking inside a glacier.
Vietnam
We spent 45 days travelling the country from south to north. The overnight sleeper train was a particular highlight:sharing snacks, playing games, and falling asleep to the rhythm of the rails.
France
France has the best campsites for families in the world-they’re well maintained, and often with a swimming pool, bakery, and restaurant(s) on site. Plus there is always a good cycle track from the campsite to lead you to a chateau, beach or quiet little village. And then there’s the food.
Malaysia
As a family, we've explored the jungle trails of Penang National Park, spotted wild monkeys in Borneo, swum in Kuala Lumpur’s epic rooftop pools, hopped around the islands of Langkawi on a speedboat, and been white water rafting near Ipoh. Malaysia makes travel easy with kids. It’s also been a great place for the boys to grow their independence and engaging with a mix of cultures that make everyday life feel like a lesson in geography and global citizenship.
21. Where can you see whales?
A. Iceland B. Vietnam
C. France D. Malaysia
22. What is a characteristic of France?
A. It has great camping facilities.
B. It features lots of wild animals.
C. The services there are expensive.
D. It takes a long time to travel there.
23. What can kids get from travelling in Malaysia?
