As the saying goes,
“One can go without eating meat for three days, but can’t live one day without nang.” Nang has a history of over 2,000 years in Xinjiang.1 People usually cook it in a clay oven (泥炉). Barry Tan, a very successful businessman, lived in a large house and drove a big car. He wore expensive clothes and ate his meals in famous restaurants. His name was often in the newspapers.
One day, a newspaper reporter asked him,4 “What is the secret of your success?” Barry thought for a few moments and then said, “I eat a special kind of fish.”
