Have you ever heard the saying, “The bluebird of happiness”? In many cultures, the bluebird is a symbol of joy, hope and a happy life. Its beautiful blue color reminds people of a clear sky or a peaceful lake, bringing a feeling of calm and contentment.
Bluebirds are small, lovely birds found in North America. They are known for their sweet songs and bright blue feathers on their backs with warm orange-brown chests. They often build their nests in tree holes or special small birdhouses.
Unfortunately, there were fewer bluebirds in the past because they lost their homes. People cut down old trees, and sometimes other more aggressive birds took their nesting places.
But here comes the good news! Many kind people decided to help. They built thousands of small wooden birdhouses and placed them in parks and fields. These safe, cosy homes provided perfect places for bluebirds to raise their young. Thanks to these efforts, the number of bluebirds started to grow again. This shows us that when humans help nature, we can make a big difference.
So, the next time you see a picture of a bluebird, or are lucky enough to see one in real life, remember it’s not just a beautiful bird. It is a reminder to find joy in the simple things and that everyone can help to protect the beautiful creatures of our world.
29. What does the bluebird stand for in many cultures?

C. Because they couldn’t find food. D. Because people caught them as pets.
32. What does the underlined word “cosy” probably mean?
A. 陌生的 B. 丑陋的 C. 杂乱的 D. 舒适的
33. What is the main message of the story?
A. Bluebirds are the most beautiful birds in the world. B. It is difficult to see a bluebird in real life.
C. Humans can help to protect nature and make a difference. D. We should build more houses in parks.
【答案】29. C 30. A 31. B 32. D 33. C

On January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and used 2,048 computer chips (芯片) for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79. 8% right, a little higher than OpenAI’s model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers all over the world started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments (实验) with R1 cost $10 instead of $300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U.S. tech company) top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
US tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward”, proving (证明) that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
34. According to paragraph 1, DeepSeek-R1 is able to ________.
①write code ② work out math problems ③ do experiments ④ answer questions
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
35. It cost about ________ to build OpenAI.
A. $5.58 million B. $65 billion C. $390 million D. $300
36. The engineer says, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use” to ________.
A. explain why R1 is free B. compare R1 with Meta’s AI
C. encourage students to study math D. show that expensive AI models are useless
37. The main purpose of the passage is to ________.
A. explain how computer chips work B. introduce a low-cost AI model from China
C. encourage students to become programmers D. compare Chinese and American AI technologies
38. Where can we read the passage?
A. In a guide book. B. On a history website. C. In a culture magazine. D. In a newspaper.
【答案】34. C 35. C 36. A 37. B 38. D

根据第一段第二句“This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions...”可知,DeepSeek-R1能够解决数学问题(②)、编写代码(①)以及回答问题(④)。第一段并未提及它能自己做实验(③是做实验的人用它)。因此①②④符合题意。
【35题详解】
根据第一段中的“The team spent only $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost)”可知,DeepSeek的投入是OpenAI成本的1/70,因此OpenAI的成本为5.58 million×70 = 390.6 million,约为3.9亿美元,对应C选项$390 million。
【36题详解】
根据最后一段工程师的话“We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.”,结合第三段提到的“DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change”可知,这句话旨在解释为什么R1是免费或低成本的,强调其普及性和亲和力。
【37题详解】

Thousands of miles from the Earth, in outer space, is a small planet, far from the Sun, behind a much bigger planet. Little green aliens live there. They use torches to see.
One day, a young alien, Neila, put the wrong batteries in her torch.
Suddenly, there was bright light. It went up into the sky, around the Sun and reached the Earth.
The light hit a boy called Billy and his dog. Neila quickly turned the torch off, but the pair were caught by the light. They flew through space and landed near Neila.
“ Hello,” said Billy. Neila smiled.
“ Wow!” said Billy, “Everything’s made of ice cream!”
“The ice cream never melts (融化), and nobody eats it. It’s too cold here,” said Neila.
Neila looked sad. “Can you help us?” she said, “We need sunshine to make things grow.”
“No problem,” said Billy, “Can you get us home? I have an idea.”
“Wait there!” said Neila.
She got her torch, put the wrong batteries in again—ZOOM! Billy and his dog flew back to the Earth.
Billy pointed his bedroom mirror between the Sun and Fliptune. The sunlight bounced off the mirror and up onto Neila’s planet.
Thanks to Billy, Fliptune is not cold any more. Billy moves the mirror every day to keep the sun shining there. Now Neila and her friends sit in the sun and enjoy all the free ice cream.

故填Since。

A
The Creation of Pinocchio
Once upon a time, there was a piece of wood. It was not an expensive piece of wood, but one day, it found itself in the shop of an old carpenter named Geppetto.
Geppetto decided to use the wood to create a marvelous puppet. “I will call him Pinocchio,” he said to himself. “This name will bring him good luck.”
He immediately took his sharp tools and started to carve. He first worked on the hair, then the forehead, and finally the eyes.
To his great astonishment, the moment he finished carving the eyes, they began to move. A moment later, they were staring directly at him. Geppetto felt uncomfortable under their gaze. “Stop staring at me, you wicked wooden eyes!” he exclaimed. But there was no reply.
Next, he carved the nose. To his dismay, the nose immediately began to grow. It grew longer and longer, and it seemed it would never stop. Geppetto tried repeatedly to cut it shorter, but the more he cut, the longer that impudent nose became.
After the nose, he carved the mouth. It was not even completely formed before it started to laugh and make fun of him. “Stop laughing!” Geppetto ordered, feeling annoyed. The mouth stopped laughing, but then it stuck out its tongue. Geppetto decided to ignore this rude behavior and continued his work.
He continued to carve the chin, the neck, the shoulders, and the arms. Finally, he made the hands. The moment the hands were finished, they reached up and snatched Geppetto’s yellow wig right off his head.
“Pinocchio! Give me my wig back at once!” he cried. However, Pinocchio did not return it. Instead, he placed the large wig on his own head, nearly disappearing inside it.
Seeing this disrespectful and defiant behavior, Geppetto felt a deep sadness that he had never experienced before. He turned to the puppet and said, “You are a wicked boy! You are not even finished, and you already show no respect to your father! This is very bad.” As he finished speaking, he wiped a tear from his eye.

30. What color is the bluebird’s chest?
A. Orange-brown. B. Dark black. C. Bright blue. D. Pure white.

C. Because they couldn’t find food. D. Because people caught them as pets.

A. 陌生的 B. 丑陋的 C. 杂乱的 D. 舒适的
