But it’s also a great place if you’re planning to study abroad. Talkers The best thing about studying in Ireland is that you’ll have so many opportunities to practise English. The Irish are an expressive nation, and just love chatting. In fact, they’re possibly the most sociable people in the world and just love talking to strangers and foreigners. You’ll soon feel welcome, and if you ever feel like having a chat, just run down to a local place serving drinks and you’ll find someone who’s willing to talk to you. Writers Ever since English became the most common language, the Irish have contributed to it, improved it, enriched it and given it something special. The Irish produced many world-class English-language writers, which is incredible when you consider how small Ireland’s population is (about 4 million people). Many of the famous writers and novelists who you probably thought were “English”, were in fact Irish, such as George Bernard Shaw, James Joyce, and Oscar Wilde. Beauty You’ll also be amazed by Ireland’s natural beauty. There are charming towns and picturesque villages with welcoming locals. In fact, Ireland is full of small towns with a lively social life. Even the capital city, Dublin, only has a million people living there. Ireland is also a country with a lot of history, and a well-defined culture. You can find out all about this in the many museums, libraries, art galleries, theatres and music festivals. On top of that, you can do just about any sport you like, whether it’s golf, riding, sailing, walking, fishing or anything else. 21. Where is it recommended to begin a chat with strangers? A. In a local museum. B. In a local bar. C. In a small town. D. In a music festival. 22. How have the Irish enriched the English language? A. By producing famous writers. B. By hosting literary exchange activities. C. By teaching English to foreign students. D. By making English the most common language. 23. What is the text mainly about? A. Why Ireland is so rich in culture. B. How the Irish have improved their lives. C. How the Irish have fun with sports and friends. D. Why Ireland is a good choice for overseas students. B It was 2016 and Emma worked as a communication specialist at a school for children with autism (自闭症). A mum came to her and explained the reason behind her tears. “My son had a breakdown that morning and beat my baby hard. I was just stressed.” Sadly, Emma had met many heartbroken parents who felt disconnected. “No one I know understands what I’m going through,” many told her. Some said they had little time to socialise, others explained family and friends had stopped inviting them to events because they were thought too busy. Having a disabled child was often seen as shameful, which left parents feeling lonely and disconnected. Emma always offered a caring ear but wished she could do more to help. Reading emotions was difficult for Emma, but she learned to observe others carefully. She wanted to do more than just listen. “I want to connect parents of kids with disabilities,” she told her husband Andrius, an IT developer. “Why don’t we build an app?” he suggested. Over the next two years, they designed Kindship. It was designed as a safe, judgment-free space where parents of children with disabilities could share experiences, exchange practical advice, and support one another. By 2018, the app rolled out. Members soon reported feeling less alone. “I met my best friend here,” one mother said. “It’s so refreshing chatting with mums who really get it,” others commented. Some even arranged local meetups through the platform. In 2022, with government support, they enlarged Kindship with a bigger team. Emma then contacted parents of children with other disabilities and asked them to help extend the operations to reach more parents across Australia. Today, Emma is a mother of two and leads a team at Kindship. “I’m determined to keep helping children with disabilities and their parents get the support they deserve,” she says. 24. What does the first paragraph mainly describe? A. Emma’s working conditions. B. The challenges that Emma overcame. C. The difficulties that autistic children met. D. The annoyance faced by parents of autistic kids. 25. What did Emma do to help the mums with disabled children? A. Set up an organization. B. Provide some online courses. C. Develop an app with her husband. D. Treat their children with specific measures. 26. How do parents benefit from Kindship? A. By obtaining funding support. B. By gaining popularity through chatting. C. By improving their children’s behaviors. D. By getting emotional relief from connection. 27. What can we learn from Emma’s experience? A. A good beginning is half done. B. A friend in need is a friend indeed. C. A trouble shared is a trouble halved. D. Where there’s a will. there’s a way. C Getting wet by a water gun while on vacation might sound like typical holiday fun for the tourists. Less so when it is from an angry native shouting: “Tourists go home!” That less than friendly greeting was among the protests (抗议) which took place across several tourist hot spots this summer, as local people in destinations released their anger at the impact mass tourism was having on their communities. But there’s another model of tourism out there, one which gives a very welcome shot in the arm. Take the ancient country houses of the Minho region for example. Known as Solares, these were also being deserted by families unable to afford their upkeep, until an enterprising (有创业精神的) group of local owners came together to promote them as very individual homestays. The result? Grand houses which had been a key part of the local economy are restored, and jobs and opportunities are created in a landscape which was starved of both. The Solares are among the destinations recommended by Inntravel — a tour company which, as its sustainability lead Ruth Woodall puts it, enables people to “take the road less travelled — it’s the polar opposite of mass tourism”. Rather than a tour group, the typical size of an Inntravel party is two, usually a couple which lends itself to homestays and small hotels or guest houses. And with many customers preferring self-guided walking holidays, which means there’s plenty of opportunity for them to stay in communities that are, in more ways than one, “far from the madding crowd”. That in turn, says Woodall, helps the company meet one of its three key sustainability goals: engaging and supporting local communities. The other two are dealing with the climate crisis-by, for example, promoting rail travel as one of the features of a holiday instead of arriving by air — and restoring nature. And these can often go together. Holidays like this are rooted in the landscape. It’s a world where visitors can bring real benefits to communities — and avoid being wet by a water gun. Except, perhaps, in fun. 28. Why did the tourists get wet in several tourist hot spots? A. They took part in a festival. B. They entertained themselves. C. They negatively influenced the locals. D. They were caught in summer rainfall. 29. What can we know about Solares? A. They are where the locals live. B. They are protected as cultural sites. C. They were built by an enterprising group. D. They were once in disrepair for lack of money. 30. Which of the following is a feature of an Inntravel holiday? A. People travel in large organized groups. B. People follow professional tour guides. C. People arrive at destinations by train only. D. People travel without harming the environment. 31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To compare different travel companies. B. To introduce a different form of tourism. C. To explain why local people dislike visitors. D. To criticize the bad manners of modern tourists. D Obesity (肥胖) spreads “contagiously (传染性的)” through social networks, according to a highly publicised 2007 study, and since then, some researchers have been working to use social networks to solve the obesity problem. A recently published study suggests that this may in fact be possible. MIT researchers discovered that grouping people with similar characteristics into fitness-focused social networks led to more individuals adopting new activities that promote healthier lifestyles. It is hoped that this study will in time open up new directions of research in the area. Ray Browning, a physiologist at Colorado State University who has studied health interventions (干预) and social networks but was not involved with the study, stated that more thoughtfully designed weight-loss interventions centered on social networks will appear and be more successful. Browning noted that some people who keep weight loss for a long period also change who they spend their time with. He pointed out that some of these individuals completely change their social network, moving from one to another that includes more healthful behaviors. Changing one’s behaviors may be easier by adding a new individual to one’s group, such as a personal trainer, who can encourage better habits and health-promoting activities. However, while the study showed some success, Browning pointed out that the results may not apply to everyone. There were relatively fewer obese people in the study than in the general population, and as the sample (样本) was obtained from a fitness group, those involved were already looking for ways to be healthier. Additionally, it remains unclear how other new health behaviors might spread through a group, because keeping a record of what you eat is easier than beginning an intense exercise programme, which requires a lot of effort to stick to. Browning commented that the study likely represents a best case for behaviour adoption, with many factors working in its favour. Still, he stressed that the study pushes research in the right direction, describing it as a nice way to start the discussion of how to design social network-related interventions. 32. What does the MIT study mainly show? A. Obesity spreads rapidly online. B. Social networks determine weight. C. Similar people group together easily. D. Fitness networks promote healthy habits. 33. What is Browning’s suggestion according to paragraph 3? A. Sticking to one’s social circle. B. Bringing in health-focused people. C. Avoiding group exercise programs. D. Setting up specific weight-loss goals. 34. What limitation of the study is mentioned? A. The study period was too short. B. The study method was not systematic. C. The participants were difficult to track. D. The sample was not representative enough. 35. What is Browning’s attitude to the study? A. Critical of its practical value. B. Supportive of its research direction. C. Enthusiastic about its widespread use. D. Reserved due to its insufficient follow-up. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 New research suggests the body may limit how many calories (热量) you burn during exercise — that is why weight loss is often smaller than people expect. Most people believe: If we move more, we will burn more calories and weigh less. 36 In some studies, exercise burns fewer calories than predicted. Even when people add more exercise such as walking, jogging, and cycling, most of them lose only 3.5 pounds over 6 months. Part of the reason is that working out can make you hungrier, making it easier to eat back the calories burned. 37 In a 2025 study they found people only burned about 1/3 of the extra calories their exercise theoretically demanded. That is, a run that should have burned 500 calories only ended up burning 165 calories. 38 It is known as energy compensation (补偿), which is changing an old belief: exercise is a direct engine for weight loss. The idea of energy compensation appeared after a 2012 study. It found that a hunter-gatherer population in Tanzania burned about the same number of calories as inactive people, although they walked many more miles. This suggests that when people are more active, their bodies may unconsciously reduce energy spent on other daily movements. 39 That way, it keeps total daily energy use within narrow limits. 40 In follow-up studies, only about half of the participants showed clear signs of compensation. When it did happen, researchers think it came from people becoming more skilled at the exercise itself, with their bodies adapting to do the same work with less energy. A. So never give up on exercise. B. In fact, not everyone compensates. C. That isn’t the case for most people. D. People might walk slower when tired. E. Researchers think it came from the exercise itself. F. But experts try to explain this phenomenon from another aspect. G. The body seems to save energy elsewhere when you exercise more. 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 I was eleven when I spotted my elderly neighbour Julie cutting back an overgrown hedge (树篱) near our pathway. Made on a relatively modest budget, 56 (feature) mostly unknown actors, the film has nonetheless exploded online through audience recommendations alone. It 57 (tell) a story of family, migration, love, and 58 (separate) across generations. Rather than relying on dramatic turns or explosive conflict, the film quietly builds emotion through letters. In many ways, the letters become emotional time capsules (时间胶囊) — preserving feelings that would otherwise disappear into silence. Unlike many Western romance films that stress 59 (open) expressing love, Dear You reflects a more controlled emotional tradition often found in Chinese culture as love is rarely spoken directly. Instead, it 60 (hide) in patience, responsibility, and quiet endurance. That is also 61 letters get such a special place in Chinese storytelling. In a world of quick messaging and short videos, the slow emotional rhythm 62 handwritten letters suddenly feels powerful again. It currently holds 63 remarkable 9.1 rating (out of 10) on Douban. Now, the film is beginning to reach international audiences as well. 64 (release) on May 15, Dear You was screened at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, regarded as a key step toward the 65 (globe) stage. French publisher Boris Pugnet said that he had strong confidence in the film, as the story of ordinary Chinese people from that historical era carries a universal emotional power. A A. stretch B. depth C. passive D. relate E. elegant F. accurate G. permit 66. Many students remain _________ about climate change, simply watching news without taking any real action to reduce waste in daily life. 67. The dancer moved across the stage in an _________ manner, her every gesture telling a story that words could never fully express. 68. Every morning, I _________ my arms and legs for ten minutes, which helps wake my body up and prevents aches and pains after running. 69. Teenagers often find it hard to _________ to their parents, since the two generations grew up with completely different values and lifestyles. 70. B A. sufficient B. attach C. charge D. precisely E. demonstrate F. exceptionally G. attempt Many people 71 to learn a new skill, but most give up too soon. The problem is rarely their talent; more often, their practice time is simply not 72 . Half an hour once a week will never lead to real improvement. To succeed, one must 73 real value to daily practice and treat it as a fixed habit. Small efforts, repeated regularly, 74 a person’s true determination over time. This is why so many online courses remain unfinished and so many gym memberships go unused after January. Yet the real challenge lies elsewhere: it is 75 the slow, invisible progress — the weeks without visible change — that tests one’s patience greatly and those who stick it out will finally get what they deserve. I was the star of my high school football team. At thirty-seven, stuck in a desk job and with a soft belly (肚子) from years of inactivity, I could barely finish a full round, out of breath. But to my ten-year-old son, Leo, I was still Dad — the hero who could do anything. It was a Saturday morning. I drove Leo to his youth football practice as usual. After we arrived, I followed him to the football field. I watched the kid players run eagerly. They moved very fast and they never seemed to get tired. Their happy laughs spread all over the field. Leo moved quickly. He kicked the ball with his left foot. The ball flew into the net. The other kids cheered loudly. Leo smiled with pride. This familiar scene made me think of my own youth — a vivid memory suddenly flashed through my mind: in my high school days, I also ran freely on the field, kicked the ball skillfully, and won cheers from everyone around. Suddenly, the coach called out, “Parent-child game! Any dads want to play?” Some parents stood up confidently. Leo ran to me with hope. “Please, Dad!” His voice was filled with expectation, and I couldn’t bear to let him down. “I haven’t played in years. I’m out of shape,” I refused with embarrassment, avoiding his eyes. “So what?” Leo replied. “You’re the best dad ever!” I looked at the field and finally at Leo’s hopeful face. 注意: (1)续写词数应为80个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I stood up and walked onto the field. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
