As the old saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Hou Mingfei, headmaster (校长) of No.9 Primary School of Hunnan District in Shenyang, Liaoning, knows it well. At this school, Mr Hou asks all the students to play sports and have fun for at least three hours a day! They can play until 7:00 p.m. before going home. Sounds crazy?
In many people’s eyes, Mr Hou might be crazy. But for Mr Hou, he just wants to do something to give children back their happy time.5 He hopes students can have a great time playing while at school.
Mr Hou thought about more about sports while building the school. At first, people didn’t agree with Mr Hou’s idea and didn’t believe that the idea would be successful. But today, the school is popular. Students like their school life and parents welcome Mr Hou’s idea.6
