Randy Pausch was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University. In August 2007,he
leamned that his pancreatic cancer had spread and that he had only three to six months to live. Most
people in his position would have retreated from public life.Pausch did the opposite. He agreed to
deliver a lecture as part of a university series called "The Last Lecture"-a talk in which professors
were asked to imagine they were dying and to share their wisdom. What followed surprised everyone.
Instead of delivering a sad speech about dying,Pausch gave a joyful talk about living. He titled it
"Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams."His central argument was simple yet profound:the brick
walls we face in life are not there to keep us out. They are there to give us a chance to show how badly
we want something.
He spoke about his own childhood dreams-being in zero gravity and designing roller coasters for
Disney. When he tried to experience weightlessness as a student, his proposal was rejected. He persisted,
found a way around the rules, and eventually got his chance through a NASA program. When he
dreamed of working for Disney,he was told to earn a Ph.D.first.He did exactly that and returned with
the expertise they needed.
To illustrate his point,Pausch projected a photograph of a massive brick wall onto the screen."That
wall,"he said,"is there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough."The audience laughed and
cried in equal measure. He delivered the entire lecture standing, doing push-ups on stage to demonstrate
his physical strength. He ended with a message to his three young children, who would grow up without
him:"If I don't get to raise them, this is my way of saying what I would have tried to say over twenty
years.”
Pausch died in July 2008.His lecture has been viewed millions of times online. But perhaps his
greatest legacy is this:he showed that dying and living are not opposites. One can face the end with joy
and an unshakable belief in the value of chasing dreams.
24.How was Pausch different from most people in his situation?
A.He spent time with family.
B.He gave up medical treatment.
C.He wrote a book about dreams.
D.He shared his wisdom publicly.
英语试题第4页(共10页)
25.What does the underlined words"brick walls"stand for?
A.Unfair obstacles set by others
B.Protection from failure
C.Barriers that stop the less committed.
D.Something money can remove.
26.Which of the following best describes Pausch's character?
A.Optimistic and curious.
B.Humorous and cautious
C.Ambitious and reliable.
D.Persistent and inspiring
27.What is the main message of the passage?
A.A famous lecture is the best legacy.
B.Life and death is an ever-lasting topic.
C.Joy and effort can exist even at death's door.
D.True courage lies in accepting what can't be changed.
A 2015 study by the American Psychological Association(APA)followed two groups of teenagers
over three years. One group spent two hours weekly in a traditional classroom review session, while the
other participated in a structured gardening and cooking(G&C)program. The results showed that the
latter group demonstrated significantly better problem-solving skills when faced with open-ended
challenges.More notably, they reported higher levels of self-worth,stating that watching a seed turn into
a meal gave them a sense of competence that test scores never could.
Critics argue that focusing on labor distracts from academic performance.Yet,experts in adolescent
development insist that the opposite is true.Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi-a renowned expert
on happiness and creativity-introduced the concept of"flow",a state of deep focus where individuals
lose track of time because they are fully engaged in an activity.According to Csikszentmihalyi, activities
like gardening,cooking,or fixing a chair can easily produce flow.This state,he argued,strengthens
mental clarity and brings long-term cognitive benefits.
This is not about bringing back the era of child labor, but about reclaiming a balance. The Finnish
education system, consistently ranked among the best in the world by the Programme for International
Student Assessment(PISA),has long integrated "real-world craftsmanship"into its core curriculum.
Finnish students leamn to knit, saw, and cook alongside math and literature. The philosophy is simple:
respect for labor cultivates respect for community and self.As one Finnish educator put it,"When a
student spends a month building a wooden stool, they learn patience, the cost of error, and the pride of
creation.”
As schools shift toward college preparation, the value of"getting one's hands dirty"is sometimes
lost. But as more schools adopt project-based learning and labor education programs worldwide, there is
hope that the next generation will redefine labor-not as a punishment, but as a path to becoming
well-rounded individuals.
28.What can be known about the two groups of teenagers in the APA study?
A.The G&C group tackled challenges better.
B.The G&C group achieved better test scores.
C.They showed equal improvement in self-worth.
D.The review group spent less time on academic tasks.
英语试题第5页(共10页)
29.Which of the following may Csikszentmihalyi agree with?
A.Labor sharpens the mind.
B.Flow occurs during leisure activities.
C.Labor distracts teenagers from academics.
D.Multitasking is essential for cognitive development.
30.Why does the author mention the Finnish education system?
A.To prove Finnish students study less.
B.To show Finland values labor over math.
C.To give an example of balancing labor and academics.
D.To criticize other countries for ignoring manual training.
31.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain the reasons behind child labor.
B.To argue for the value of labor in education.
C.To compare classroom learning with hands-on learning.
D.To introduce gardening and cooking programs worldwide.

Artificial intelligence is changing how we predict the weather.Every year since 2018,Nature
magazine has drawn up a list of emerging technologies to watch in the coming year. For 2026,one of the
seven technologies on the list is Al-powered meteorology-and for good reason.
Traditional weather forecasting relies on physics-based models.Supercomputers solve complex
equations to simulate how temperature, pressure, and wind evolve over time. These models are
computationally expensive and often take hours to produce a single forecast. But AI is offering a faster,
smarter alternative.
AI weather models are trained on decades of historical weather data.Instead of solving physical
equations, they learn to recognize patterns and make predictions based on what they have seen before.
The result is dramatic:forecasts that once took hours can now be generated in seconds. And they are not
just faster-in many cases, they are also more accurate.
Consider Hurricane Melissa, which caused severe damage in the Caribbean last October. While
traditional models were still processing data,an AI model developed by researchers at Google
DeepMind in London anticipated that the storm would become a category-5 event days in advance. It
also accurately predicted the hurricane's path, giving local authorities more time to prepare.
But AI forecasting is not without its limitations. These models struggle with rare or unprecedented
weather events that fall outside their training data.A storm behaving in an entirely new way might confuse
an AI system that has never seen anything like it.For this reason, most experts believe the future lies in
combining both approaches-using AI for speed and traditional models for reliability in extreme cases.
One thing is already clear:AI has forever changed how we predict the weather, from local storms to
global climate patters.
32.What is an advantage of AI weather models over traditional ones?
A.They require less training data.
B.They generate forecasts in less time.
C.They solve more complex equations.
D.They can predict any type of weather.
英语试题第6页(共10页)
33.What does the author mainly intend to show in paragraph 4?
A.Traditional models are useful.
B.How Hurricane Melissa was formed.
C.AI weather models show high accuracy.
D.Traditional and AI models have respective strengths.
34.What is a limitation of AI weather forecasting?
A.It is too slow for everyday use.
'B.It needs supercomputers to run.
C.It cannot learn from historical data.
D.It struggles with rare weather events.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Hurricane Melissa:A Victory for AI
B.AI Is Changing Weather Forecasting
C.AI vs Traditional Models:Which One Wins?D.The End of Physics-Based Weather Prediction

The Yangtze River,China's longest waterway, has suffered from serious overfishing for decades.
By 2020,fish populations had dropped to dangerously low levels, and some native species were on the
edge of extinction.36 The ban covered the main stream and key tributaries of the Yangtze and was
set to last for ten years.
37 From 2021 to 2025,monitoring across the Yangtze basin recorded 351 native fish species-
an increase of 43 species compared with surveys conducted before the ban.In 2025,the total fish stock in
the river's main stream recovered to roughly twice the level observed before the fishing prohibition.
But how did China achieve this? The ban was just the beginning.A network of law enforcement
teams was established along the river to fight illegal fishing.38 Compared with 2021,the number
of administrative cases involving illegal fishing dropped by 65 percent, while criminal cases related to
fisheries fell by nearly 40 percent.
Of course,a ban of this scale also means asking people to give up their livelihoods.More than
230,000 fishermen had to quit fishing activities. The government did not simply leave them
behind.39 About 141,000 of them found other jobs, while 220,000 were covered by pension
insurance programs. Those in financial difficulty received temporary assistance.
In 2026,the ministry released a new action plan to deepen the conservation efforts. The plan
includes restoring wetlands, expanding habitats for species such as the Yangtze finless porpoise, and
carrying out large-scale release programs for endangered fish.40
A.Many local fishermen were strongly against the ban at first.
B.Instead,it provided all kinds of support to help them start new lives.
C.These actions helped cut illegal fishing sharply within just a few years
D.However, the ban alone would not have worked without strict enforcement
E.In response,the Chinese government introduced a 10-year fishing ban in 2021.
F.What followed was a recovery that exceeded even the most optimistic forecasts
G.These efforts show environmental protection and human well-being can go hand in hand.

It was a chilly November morning when I first met Mrs.Hargrove.As a student teacher,I was

with 42 readers.I slipped into a seat at the back, only to find the lesson was about to 43 a
poet I'd never heard of.
She didn't 44 the lecture directly.45,she read a single line aloud:"The road draws its
own map as it goes."Then she asked,"What does the road feel?"46.Students exchanged glances,
struggling to find the"right"answer in their textbooks. But Mrs.Hargrove just 47 and pulled up a
chair beside a boy named Marcus, who had been staring out the window.

class chuckled nervously,but Mrs.Hargrove's eyes lit up."Go on."As Marcus spoke-49 at first,

quiet“Why?”or“What makes you say that??

and more about lighting a fire-or simply recognizing that the fire was there all along, waiting for
someone to 54 the wind just right.
Years later, now a full teacher myself,I still remember that note.Sometimes the most important
lessons are the roads that 55 themselves as they go.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My grandpa was a master of paper-cutting,a precious traditional craft with thousands of years of
history. When I was little,I loved watching him sit by the window cutting vivid paper flowers, animals
and folk figures with a tiny sharp knife.Every Spring Festival,he gave our whole neighborhood delicate
paper-cut decorations as gifts.
As I entered senior high school, piles of exam tasks swallowed all my spare time.Gradually,I lost
interest in paper-cutting,thinking it outdated and old-fashioned.I spent all my free time scrolling short
videos and learing trendy digital drawing.Every time Grandpa invited me to practice paper-cutting
with him,I refused impatiently, claiming I had endless homework to finish. He never blamed me,only
staring silently at his unused paper and scissors with disappointment.
Last month, our school was to hold a youth cultural exhibition, encouraging students to show
traditional handicrafts. My art teacher talked about the risk that many old folk crafts might disappear,
since few teenagers were willing to learn them. Her words struck me deeply.I thought of lonely Grandpa
and his fading paper-cutting works. That night,I went to Grandpa's study and asked if he could teach me
again.A big bright smile spread across his face instantly.
For the next two weeks,I devoted my spare time to learning paper-cutting.At first,my hands shook
constantly, and all my cut patterns were broken and ugly.I almost wanted to give up.Grandpa patiently
told me that true inheritance required long-lasting perseverance, and old traditions could also be
combined with modern youth culture.
I planned to take paper-cutting works to the school exhibition, yet I ran into a big trouble:my plain
traditional cuttings might not attract my classmates, who preferred fashionable, creative works.Standing
beside piles of red paper,I fell into deep thought, wondering how to make this ancient craft catch
teenagers'eye.

1.续写词数应为150个左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Suddenly,a creative idea popped into my mind as I watched my digital drawing sketches.
On the day of the exhibition,I displayed my mixed-style paper-cutting works to the students.
