When you wake up on the first day of your holiday, you enjoy a delicious breakfast and then take a walk in the park. You surely feel happy and relaxed. But by the late afternoon, you might start to feel bored! If this happens to you, don’t worry. You’re not the only one. Having too much free time isn’t always great. So, how much free time is the best for our happiness?
Scientists wanted to find the answer. They did research and asked thousands of people questions. These people wrote down how they spent their time and how happy they were. After studying all the information, the scientists found that less than two hours of free time a day isn’t enough to make people happy. People with less than two hours of free time usually feel stressed That’s because they are too busy working to enjoy themselves.
It’s true that being too busy makes people upset. Some might think that more free time is better. But here’s a surprise: having a lot of free time doesn’t always make us happy. People feel good when they finish meaningful things. But if they have more than five hours of free time a day, they can’t get this happy feeling. So, too much free time isn’t good, either.
In fact, what really matters is how we spend our free time. If we spend our free time on hobbies, even five or more hours a day can keep us happy. But if we just sit in our room watching TV, using our phone or doing nothing interesting, we certainly won’t feel happy.
36. How does the writer introduce the topic?
A. By giving an example. B. By listing numbers.
C. By giving an opinion. D. By telling a story.
37. What were the questions in the research about?
A. People’s daily life and feelings. B. People’s jobs.
C. People’s health condition. D. People’s hobbies.
38. What did the scientists find about free time?
A. Free time makes people bored.
B. More free time brings more happiness.
C. Too much free time can also bring problems.
D. One hour of free time a day is enough.
39. What does the underlined word “upset” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Not successful. B. Not happy.
C. Not fit. D. Not confident.
40. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. What Should Our Vacation Be Like.
B. Why Do We Need More Free Time.
C. Where Can We Spend Our Daily Free Time.
D. How Much Free Time Do We Need to Be Happy.
36. A 37. A 38. C 39. B 40. D
第一段以“When you wake up on the first day of your holiday, you enjoy a delicious breakfast and then take a walk in the park. You surely feel happy and relaxed. But by the late afternoon, you might start to feel bored!”
第二段提到“These people wrote down how they spent their time and how happy they were.”,说明研究的问题是“人们如何度过时间以及他们的幸福程度”,即“日常生活的安排和感受”。
第三段指出“It’s true that being too busy makes people upset. Some might think that more free time is better. But here’s a surprise: having a lot of free time doesn’t always make us happy.”,说明忙碌让人不开心,但大量空闲时间同样不总是带来幸福,即“太多空闲时间也会带来问题”。
第三段提到“It’s true that being too busy makes people upset.”,前文第二段已说明“People with less than two hours of free time usually feel stressed”,且“upset”与前文“stressed”以及后文“doesn’t always make us happy”形成语义呼应,因此“upset”在此处意为“不开心的”。
全文围绕“how much free time is the best for our happiness?” D项“How Much Free Time Do We Need to Be Happy”概括了全文核心议题。
D
Do you know the data annotator It is a new job because of the development of AI.
Data annotators are like teachers and they help the computer learn. They check pictures, words, or sounds and tell the computer what they are. For example, they might look at a picture of a cat and give a tag (标签) of “cat”. This helps the computer learn to know when it sees cats in other pictures. There are more complex (复杂的) tags. If a patient asks about an illness, an AI’s answers might not be clear. So, medical data annotators add more detailed (详细的) tags to make the answers better.
The needs for different data annotators are not the same. Simple tasks like pointing out all the flowers in a picture do not need highly-educated (高学历的) people. Anyone can finish them after training. For more complex tasks, however, we need higher-educated data annotators. Take the legal (法律的) field for example. AI can tell us laws in a cold way. However, many legal matters are about people’s ideas and feelings. This job needs data annotators with professional (专业的) knowledge to offer more thoughtful answers.
The role of the data annotator started with the needs of AI, and progress (进步) in AI depends a lot on data annotation. As China’s AI grows fast, the need for data annotators will keep growing.
41. What does a data annotator need to do?
A. To see patients.
B. To teach computers by adding tags.
C. To take pictures of cats.
D. To repair computers.
42. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A. Simple tasks. B. Complex tasks.
C. Data annotators. D. Highly-educated people.
43. Why does the legal field need higher-educated data annotators?
A. They can train AI in a cold way.
B. They can operate computers better.
C. They can give more thoughtful answers.
D. They can explain rules in a creative way.
44. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. There will be fewer jobs in China.
B. China’s AI will slow down soon.
C. AI won’t need data annotators in the future.
D. AI and data annotators help each other grow.
45. Which of the following best shows the structure (结构) of the text?
A. B. C. D.
B 42. A 43. C 44. D 45. D

根据第二段第一句“Data annotators are like teachers and they help the computer learn.”
根据第三段“Simple tasks like pointing out all the flowers in a picture…Anyone can finish them after training.”
根据第三段最后一句“This job needs data annotators with professional knowledge to offer more thoughtful answers.”
根据第四段“The role of the data annotator started with the needs of AI, and progress in AI depends a lot on data annotation…the need for data annotators will keep growing.”
