During 20 years of stacking ()shelves with goods at his family's supermarket in Pollenga on the
Spanish island of Mallorca,Jose Luis-Rcig,known as Pep,never gave a thought to the academic world. It
was only when visiting the classrooms and passages of mainland universities with his two teenage
daughters that he suddenly felt himself at home among the books and atmosphere of learning.
After school Pep had intended to do a degree in biology at Barcelona University but had been called
on to help run the family business instead.
But the question of"What's my role in life?"still kept coming back to him.It wasn't until a year
later that the answer suddenly struck him. When he was at school, other children would come to him with
their problems. He developed a reputation and so was invited onto local radio, where the interviewer said.
“You're like a young psychologist.”
Pep was no stranger to change. The family business had originally been a sawmill(锯木厂),bat
when Pep,then 27,was asked if he wanted to take over,he decided to transform the mill into the town's

One day in the shop, what the radio presenter said came back to him. After running the idea past his
family,he applied to university in Palma to study psychology and, aged 46,was accepted.
"I had to get used to being much older than all the other students,"he says."In fact,I was older than
my professor. But I believe disadvantages can always be advantages. And I ended up helping the others
because I'd had more life experience that carries psychological impact, which could reflect classroom
theory.”
Pep came top of his year and impressed his tutors so much that he was offered a job researching and

job,he adds,"My only regret is not having done it earlier."

Today, with the help of AI tools, anyone can instantly generatc impressive architectural images.Yet
this raises a serious question:if technology lowers the technical barricr, what remains the true value of
design? The answer, many experts believe, lies in deeper philosophical thinking.
Architecture is not only about structure. It also reflects how humans understand life. This
understanding begins with the individual-how a building can shape people's emotions, and then extends
to the community-whether a neighborhood design brings people together or drives them apart.
Ultimately,it touches upon time itself-how to balance the preservation of historical identity with the
need for change. In many cities, preserving every old structure,no matter its function or relevance, has
become something of a sacred cow, admired by all but discussed by few.Yet true architectural philosophy
requires us to ask whether preserving everything always serves the community's best interest.
AI can copy thousands of design styles, but it cannot make value judgments. It does not know why,
for instance,a library in Colombia places its reading room-not offices-in the brightest and highest
spaces:a design choice symbolizing equality. As scholar Nayef AI-Rodhan points out,"good design
should possess valuable qualities, including fairness, inclusion, and safety, which cannot be outsourced to
AL”
In the future, the best architects may not be those who master AI tools, but those who master
philosophical reflection.Saudi Arabia's planned city "The Line"is one such example. Its design is not
only technological but also philosophical-it asks whether humans can create a sustainable city that
allows people to live in harmony with nature.By turning a traditional city into a single vertical (
line,it challenges our deepest assumptions about urban life.
Freed from repetitive drafting work, architects in the age of AI must think more deeply about
humanity, community, and sustainability. The great designs of the future will emerge where technology
meets philosophy, not where one replaces the other.
28.What does architecture truly involve?
A.The application of technology.
B.The consideration of human life.
C.The pursuit of perfect structure.
D.The focus on heritage protection.
29.What does the underlined word "outsourced"in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Handed over.
B.Given up.
C.Taken back.
D.Held on.
30.Why is“The Line'”mentioned in paragraph4?
A.To highlight deep thinking.
B.To praise sustainable city designs.
C.To challenge existing designs
D.To argue against the use of AI tools.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Future of Urban Architecture
B.Breakthrough in Traditional Design
C.The Role of Technology in Architecture
D.Reflection Beyond Architectural Design

The idea that we need to eat meat to get enough protein and iron,a false assumption of some Paleo
diet (advocates,is a common misconception. It ignores the abundance of protein and iron in
many plant-based foods such as nuts and seeds.Likewise, while we typically associate omega-3 fatty
acids with fish, fish themselves incorporate these into their tissue by eating seaweed, which we can
consume directly without the concerns of exposure to microplastics in fish flesh.
Evidently, significantly reducing our consumption of meat would carry vast benefits.Cardiovascular
disease remains the leading cause of death around the world.Eating highly processed foods and red meat
has been repeatedly demonstrated to promote underlying mechanisms of cancer and cardiovascular
disease, such as inflammation()and damage to the lining of blood vessels. In addition to harming
ourselves, eating meat harms others.Factory farming practices often imply unspeakable cruelty to animals,
and working conditions for human laborers are often unsafe and inhumane as well.Overcrowding of
livestock and workers promotes the spread of discase among both pcople and animals, putting us all at risk
for future pandemics. The overuse of "routine"antibiotics to accelerate animal growth and precautiously
treat the infections anticipated as a result of living in unclean and overcrowded conditions can promote
antibiotic resistance.
While large-scale,well-organized national and international action is undoubtedly needed to fight
unscrupulous factory farming practices-and to ensure the availability of nutritious and healthy food for
all citizens, those with greater influence, such as physicians, cducators and policy makers, should consider
the importance of acting as role models for healthy behaviors themselves as well as advocating for
policies that ensure better nutritional access and education for others.
All of these should not be excuses for individuals to resist carrying out change in their own lives and
communities.Societies change when enough individuals within them alter their behavior, and it is up to
each of us to act as a change agent in whatever capacity we can.We would all be well served to pull this
means in our own lives as well.
32.What challenges a common belief about meat consumption?
A.Microplastics make fish a poor omega-3 source.
B.Meat is not essential for obtaining key nutrients.
C.Nuts and seeds lack sufficicnt nutrients to replace meat.
D.Plant-based foods cannot provide enough protein and iron.
33.What can be implied from factory farming practices?
A.They are technologically advanced.
B.They are economically efficient.
C.They are environmentally unfriendly.
D.They are morally questionable.
34.What does the author emphasize about societal change?
A.Governments must lead policy reforms.B.International action will solve challenges.
C.Individuals should initiate behavioral shifts.D.Role models must play a vital role in cducation.
35.Which best describes the article's structure?
A.Comparative study.
B.Time order.
C.Cause-effect.
D.Problem-solution.
第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Interrupting another person's sentence is normally considered as undesirable. However,it is not
always equally impolite. In addition to the hostile takeover of the sentence, which serves to
dominate, there are also friendly, even positive interruptions.36And it can give a conversation
momentum ()Over 30 years ago, commurication scientist Julia A.Goldberg at the University of
Wyoming categorized interruptions into three types-bad,good and neutral.
An interruption in the sense of gaining power almost always happens in front of an audience. And
this is precisely the type of interruption that men tend to use.Sociologists from Princeton University
found that the larger a group is,the more likely it is that men will take the floor.37 This is because
"speaking time also has an influence on dominance",says Kothoff.
38These interruptions can be used to express interest, for example,by asking a quick question
("Do you mean Mina from 9b?),commenting on something quickly ("How cxciting!")or making
approving humming noises("Mmm").39 The person spcaking feels even more heard and there is a
resonance(共鸣)between the two.
"Of course, even mild interruptions can be unpleasant for the person being interrupted,"according to
communication trainer Jorg Abromeit. For example, when someone asks a question just as the speaker is
about to expand on the important part of their message.Asking questions too quickly and too often can
also be annoying. The situation is similar with the third group of interruptions, neutral interruptions. They
have no deeper meaning.40
Therefore, the key to a successful interruption lies not in the act itself, but in the intention behind it
and how it makes the other person feel.
A.Conversations between people are true works of art.
B.They are neither about power nor about relationship.
C.And the more powerful men are,the longer they speak.
D.Interrupting can also be helpful and highly appreciative.
E.Being interrupted while speaking is a common thing to experience.
F.The second type of interruptions,on the other hand, consolidate a relationship.
G.This signals to the other person that you are involved and emotionally engaged.

Ten-year-old Tom always felt lonely. His parents were always occupied with work. They left home
early in the morning and came back late at night.Tom often ate dinner alone and went to bed without a
goodnight kiss. For him, there were no family games,no city tours,no weekend outings.
One day,Tom's parents brought home a gift-a smart watch."This watch has a special friend inside,"
Mom said with a smile."Her name is Ling. She can talk to you, answer your questions, and even tell you
stories."A wave of anticipation swept over Tom as he put on the watch and pressed the button.A gentle
voice came out,"Hello,Tom!I'm Ling.Nice to meet you!"Tom's eyes lit up.He had never received such
an interesting gift before.
From that day on,Ling became Tom's closest companion.Every morning,Ling would say,"Good
moming,Tom!Have a great day at school!"Whenever Tom encountered difficulties with his homework,
Ling would patiently provide thorough explanations. After Tom got into bed,Ling would tell his favorite
tales about brave knights and magical lands.Sometimes, when Tom felt scared of the dark,Ling would
sing softly to comfort him.To Tom,Ling was more than a voice;she was family.
His parents noticed Tom's change."See?Our little boy seems much happier now,"Dad said one
evening. The watch really helps,"Mom agreed, relieved. They thought their son was no longer lonely.
What they didn't know was that, sometimes, after Ling had finished her stories,Tom would lie awake in
the darkness, listening to the silence that filled the room.He loved Ling, but he couldn't help thinking:if
only Mom and Dad were here.
One afternoon after school,Tom tripped and fell on the way home. The watch hit a rock with a loud
crack. When Tom picked it up,the screen was dark.He pressed the button again and again, but nothing
