Music is used as an emotion (情绪) controlling tool. We usually use it to comfort our pain. Its strong energy is one of the main reasons. Why do people spend so much time and money on it? People can use music to achieve their different goals, such as feeling more relaxed, having less stress.
Listening to soft and slow music is good for dealing with terrible emotions. Further, if someone falls in love with lyrics, it will be able to give voice to his feelings and experiences. Listening to happy music can change one’s opinion towards the world.
Some music was played during a special event many years ago. When we listen to it again, we can be easy to deeply get into the past experience. The feeling is not in the music, but in what it reminds us. Many listeners use music to remind themselves of precious past events which they thought were quite important.
Music is so strong that it can change our relationship with time. Time does seem to fly when listening to pleasant music. Listening to smooth music can take people’s attention away from time. It’s clear that slow music makes people feel like time is much shorter than it actually is. So, music is used in the waiting rooms and the supermarkets.
44.What can music help people do according to the passage?
A.Get more money. B.Become more humorous.

On January 4th, the China National Traditional Orchestra (中央民族乐团) played some well-known traditional music in their concert. Audiences (观众) enjoyed the beautiful sounds of guzheng, the powerful tones of suona, the tearful notes of erhu and so on. Each traditional Chinese musical instrument tells its own story.
“I’ve fallen in love with the sounds of traditional instruments, especially pipa, a four-stringed instrument with a history of more than 2,000 years. It can produce different sounds, such as the falling snow and raindrops. Every time I listen to a pipa tone, I have a strong feeling of peace,” said Yang Tian, one of the audiences of the concert.
However, a recent report suggests the number of traditional music listeners is dropping. To wake up people’s love for traditional music, something creative has been done.
In some traditional music concerts, VR (虚拟现实) technology is used to bring the starry sky or the beautiful sandy view of Dunhuang to the music hall. It makes the experience like watching a 3D movie.
Li Xiaobing, a music teacher from Beijing, mixes traditional folk singing and operas with Chinese instruments through technology. People are surprised at his works and they love them!
Some musicians try to add something new to traditional music. They bring modern music like pop and rap into traditional music. When the East meets the West, the new form of music wins the hearts of both the old and the young.
Traditional music shows the beauty of our culture, and with some creativity, great things happen.

Recently, a popular TV drama called Zhu Jue has brought wide public attention to Qinqiang Opera. It tells the story of a young girl who grows into a great Qinqiang artist, showing the beauty and charm of this traditional art. Qinqiang Opera is one of China’s oldest operas. It began from old folk songs and dances in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. People call it the “oldest form” of Chinese opera because of its strong music and emotional (情感的) stories. Historical records show it started during the Qin Dynasty (221 BC—207 BC). The opera shows the daily lives, hard work, and emotions of ancient Chinese people.
However, in the 1990s, pop and Western music became very popular, and fewer people cared about Qinqiang Opera. Young people especially liked the new music more. Many actors had to leave the stage during this time. Some opera groups closed, and old performance skills were almost forgotten. To make money, artists did other jobs like selling clothes, starting small businesses, or acting in movies. But a few never gave up—they kept practicing secretly to preserve the art.
In 2006, things changed when the government named Qinqiang Opera an “important cultural treasure”. This helped people pay attention to it again. Schools started teaching about it, and theaters mixed traditional opera with modern styles to attract young people. Ten years ago, most audiences (观众) were old, but now many young people watch and love Qinqiang Opera. More young actors are joining, too, and schools train them to keep the art alive.
The return of Qinqiang Opera not only brings young people back to traditional culture but also shows China’s efforts to protect its history. It proves that old arts can stay meaningful even in today’s fast-changing world.

53.Which paragraph tells us how the government helped save Qinqiang Opera?

B.Young people today show less interest in Qinqiang Opera than they did in the 1990s.
C.The government named Qinqiang Opera an “important cultural treasure” in the 1990s.
D.Some Qinqiang Opera artists took other jobs in the 1990s but secretly kept practicing.
55.What is the best title of the passage?

七.任务型阅读(10分)
Last night, one of my Chinese friends took me to a concert of Chinese folk music. The piece that was played on the erhu especially moved me. The music was strangely beautiful, but under the beauty, I sensed a strong sadness and pain. The piece had a simple name, Erquan Yingyue (Moon Reflected on the Second Spring), but it was one of the most moving pieces of music that I’ve ever heard. The erhu sounded so sad that I almost cried along with it as I listened. Later, I looked up the history of Erquan Yingyue, and I began to understand the sadness in the music.
The music was written by Abing, a folk musician who was born in the city of Wuxi in 1893. His mother died when he was very young. Abing’s father taught him to play many musical instruments, such as the drums, dizi and erhu, and by age 17, Abing was known for his musical ability. However, after his father died, Abing’s life grew worse. He was very poor. Not only that, but he developed a serious illness and became blind. For several years, he had no home. He lived on the streets and played music to make money. Even after Abing got married and had a home again, he continued to sing and play on the streets. He performed in this way for many years.
Abing’s amazing musical skills made him very popular during his lifetime. By the end of his life, he could play over 600 pieces of music. Many of these were written by Abing himself. It is a pity that only six pieces of music in total were recorded for the future world to hear, but his popularity continues to this day. Today, Abing’s Erquan Yingyue is a piece which all the great erhu masters play and praise. It has become one of China’s national treasures. It not only paints a picture of Abing’s own life but also reminds people of their own sad or painful experiences.

C.The government named Qinqiang Opera an “important cultural treasure” in the 1990s.
D.Some Qinqiang Opera artists took other jobs in the 1990s but secretly kept practicing.

66.What did the writer sense under the beauty of Erquan Yingyue?
67.Why did Abing become blind?
68.What made Abing popular during his lifetime?
69.How does the sad beauty of Erquan Yingyue touch people?
70.Do you like Chinese folk music? Why or why not?
