Hiding myself in the corner of a hall,I carefully observed Sarah. After finishing the count-down,she
looked around seriously, fixed her eyes straight ahead, and then walked towards the gate of the hall where
I was. With a smile on her face, she looked so confident.A sense of nervousness welled up in my heart.
While I was worried about being caught by her,she stopped halfway and ran quickly towards the back of
the gate. The instant she approached the gate,Grace threw the door open and ran away like an arrow. At
the same time,Sarah was knocked down by the gate and started to cry.
Panic seized our group as we found Sarah's left arm bleeding. Our hearts pounding with fear and
concern,we comforted Sarah anxiously. Not knowing the location of the hospital and how to perform first
aid,I decided to turn to the locals.I approached a young lady and tried my best to tell her what happened
in simple Spanish.Aware of what happened, not only did she help us call an ambulance, but she
accompanied us to the hospital.Luckily, the doctor told us Sarah's arm was not serious and after simple
treatment we went to the airport to go home.Adventurous as the trip was,it showed us the friendliness of
local people and strengthened our friendship.

Hua Mengli was born in 1995 in Zhenjiang,Jiangsu Province. In 2010,Hua's father rented more
than 13.3 hectares of land in a village. He used the land for conventional farming. However,a lack of
innovation made it hard for him to run the farm.In the hope of saving her father's farm,Hua in 2013
enrolled in Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry and majored in horticultural (
technology.
After her graduation in 2016,Hua and four like-minded friends joined her father's farm.Almost
immediately, they had to deal with poor sales. After visiting various markets, they realized they had to
innovate their farming techniques. They spent the next 11 months transforming the farm into an ecological
circular agriculture base. The transformation was a turning point;since then, the farm has generated an
output value of 32 million yuan annually.
As part of her farm management,Hua has focused on technological innovation and application. In
2018,some farmers'strawberry seedlings died, which resulted in massive losses.Hua decided to identify
the cause. She spent three months testing hundreds of formulas, until she found the right culture medium
formula for strawberry seedlings. She helped the farmers avoid future losses, and she improved both
strawberry yield and quality.
Hua has not hesitated to share the technologies she has developed with other farmers. She organized a
team to provide assistance and technical guidance to farmers. The team is composed of 49 young
graduates, all of whom majored in agriculture. She has also provided technological training to more than
22,000 people, supported more than 700 farmers in growing crops and helped farmers increase their
incomes by a combined 120 million yuan.
When asked about her plans for the future,Hua says,"I am willing to put down roots in the
countryside, and to work in the fields.Rural areas have great potential, and agriculture will thrive.I will
lead farmers and more young people to advance rural revitalization ().

In April 2026,some of the world's most powerful technology companies made a striking
announcement:they are now using artificial intelligence-AI-to help build and improve AI itself.
Companies like OpenAl,Anthropic, and Google DeepMind have quietly set a new goal:to create AI
systems that can do their own research and automate(使自动化)the process of scientific discovery.
Anthropic, the company behind the popular AI assistant Claude, recently revealed that its AI now
writes up to 90 percent of the company's own code-the instructions that tell computers what to do.
Meanwhile,OpenAI,one of the world's leading AI labs, has announced plans to launch an"AI research
intern ()"within six months. This intern would be able to independently handle a small number
of specific research problems-without any help from a human.
The idea of AI improving itself is not new,but the speed at which it is now happening has surprised
many experts.Jakub Pachocki,OpenAI's chief scientist, told MIT Technology Revie that he believes we
are approaching a point where AI models could work "indefinitely"-meaning continuously-on
complex tasks, much like a human researcher."We will have an era where there are entire research labs
inside data centers,"he said.
However, this exciting vision also raises serious concerns.Experts warn that self-improving AI
systems could become difficult to control. If an AI makes errors in one step of a long chain of tasks, those
mistakes could build up一a problem known as“error accumulation(积累)”.A more alarming worry is
that such systems could be used to design dangerous tools, including biological weapons or cyberattacks.
Despite the risks, many in the tech industry remain optimistic. They argue that self-improving Al
could speed up progress in science and medicine, helping researchers find cures for diseases faster than
ever before. The question is not whether this technology will arrive-but whether humanity will be
prepared when it does.
28.What is the new target set by three major AI companies?
A.Building AI to automate its own research.B.Applying AI to cure diseases more quickly.
C.Using AI to train more research interns.
D.Developing AI to write software code.
29.What can be concluded from Jakub Pachocki's words?
A.Data centers will be replaced by modern labs soon.
B.AI will carry out long-term complicated research work.
C.Some jobs for human researchers might disappear gradually.
D.AI is able to finish research projects within one single night.
高二英语期末试题(XYS)-5-(共10页)
30.Why are some experts concerned about self-improving AI?
A.It may slow down medicine research.
B.It may suffer accumulated task errors.
C.It may occupy too many server facilities.
D.It may waste plenty of energy resources.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.Hidden Dangers of Self-Improving AI
B.Great Value of Self-Improving AI
C.Fast Progress of Self-Improving AI
D.Double sides of Self-Improving AI

For centuries,it was believed that the production of oxygen relied on photosynthesis ()
Plants use sunlight to tum CO into oxygen,as we all know. However, the discovery of dark oxygen
produced in environments with little or no sunlight challenges this long-held assumption.
In 2013,Scottish scientist Andrew made this discovery by accident while conducting deep-sea
mining research. He measured rising levels of oxygen as he went deeper. He could not help thinking his
路
measuring devices were incorrect and dismissed the reading entirely,as he assumed the only way to
produce oxygen was through photosynthesis. With no light source,it seemed impossible that oxygen could
exist on the deep seabed, one of the coldest and darkest places on the Earth.
However, over the last 10 years,Andrew's team have been conducting more marine experiments.
They enclosed a section of the seabed within a space and measured the oxygen levels over time. They also
&
expected a reduction in the levels of oxygen due to consumption by organisms ()However,
燕
oxygen levels consistently increased, proving that oxygen was being produced in the dark depths of the
含
哦
ocean. In fact,in some experiments, oxygen levels rose to more than three times the background
concentration. One potential explanation for the increased oxygen levels is the existence of polymetallic
nodules(多金属s结核),which use an electric charge to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen,
This could revolutionize deep-sea mining primarily because these polymetallic nodules contain metals
which are essential for everyday life, especially for batteries.Mining companies view the metals as a new,
highly sought-after resource. However, the production of this dark oxygen may be vital for deep-sea
ecosystems, yet disturbing this process could be harmful to species relying on it.

In a world driven by test scores and productivity, art is often seen as a luxury or an elective. But
recent research suggests this common assumption is mistaken.36 They build stronger creative
thinking and emotional intelligence through these pursuits. One study even found that art participants
scored 20%higher on empathy tests
Why does art have such a powerful effect on young minds?37 When a child paints or plays an
名
instrument, the brain must coordinate perception ()movement,memory,and emotion all at once.
A 2024 Swiss study of over 2,000 children found that those receiving regular arts training consistently
outperformed their peers in problem-solving tasks
38 Children often struggle to put complex feelings into words.Art gives them another language to
级
express their own inner world.Through colors, sounds,or movements, they can express what they cannot
otherwise share. This process helps them understand and manage their own moods-a skill vital for
mental health.
The value of art extends well into adulthood as well.In an age when AI can generate content from
existing information,uniquely human strengths-imagination,original thinking,moral judgment-are
号
becoming more valuable.Art education nurtures()exactly these essential human qualities.Students
with art backgrounds learn to approach problems without ready-made answers.39
That is why art education deserves a central place in our schools.Policymakers and parents should no
longer see art as an extra thing.Instead, they need to recognize it as an essential part of the school
curriculum.40 Engagement with artistic pursuits builds creativity, empathy, and the inner strength
to face life's challenges.
A.Art,in essence,is about making better human beings.
B.Much of the explanation lies in how the human brain works
C.Some educators argue that art is difficult to measure in standardized tests
D.Another benefit is that art provides a safe space for emotional expression.
E.Math and science courses are always prioritized over art classes in most schools.

On the morning of our long-awaited graduation day, expectation filled the air as I,together with my
best friends,Sarah,Maria and Grace gathered our bags, waited for the plane and set about our adventure
to Barcelona. For months,we had been dreaming about this moment, which marked the end of years of
burying ourselves in hard work and staying dedicated. It was three months ago in a history class that we
were drawn to its rich history, from the medieval(中世纪的)streets of the Gothic Quarter to the
innovative architecture of Antoni Gaudi.
The happiness of burying ourselves in a new culture, filled with amazing and new food and friendly
people, heightened our excitement. However, despite our enthusiasm,we couldn't ignore the fact that
none of us spoke Spanish so fluently. On the day before setting off,we were still hesitant about whether to

go or not. While surfing on the Internet for advice,we found that most people travelling to Barcelona
considered the locals friendly and warm-hearted ones who are always willing to offer help.A sense of relief
and expectation took the place of our worries. We made up our minds to go there.

As we stepped off the plane, bathed in warm Spanish sunshine, our spirits rose high.We kicked off
our journey with a wander down Las Ramblas, enjoying the energy and talent of street performers.Down
by the street, the traditional buildings and precious cultural sites were a true feast for the eyes

Yet,as the days went by,unforeseen challenges began to take place. On the last day of the journey,
as we were lost in the beauty of the amazing squares and traditional buildings,Sarah suggested that we
could play the game of cat and mouse to better explore the architecture. After arranging our roles,we ran
in different directions to hide, while the cat,Sarah, began to count down to find and catch us.
