The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is one of the greatest ancient water projects in China. It lies on the Minjiang River in Sichuan Province and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (联合国教科文组织世界遗产地) for its long history and great value. Built more than 2,200 years ago by Li Bing and his son, who were wise officers in ancient China, the project has greatly improved the living conditions of local people. Before it was built, the Chengdu Plain often suffered from terrible floods in rainy seasons and serious water shortages in dry seasons. Few farmers could grow enough food and many people lived a poor and difficult life.
This amazing project includes three important parts that work together to control the river water wisely. The first is Yuzui, which divides the river into two parts. In dry seasons, most water flows to the fields to help crops grow well. In rainy seasons, too much water is quickly carried away to protect the land from floods. The second part is Feishayan, which takes sand and mud (泥) out of the river and stops them from gathering and blocking the waterway. The third one is Baopingkou, a man-made channel (渠道) that keeps the water enough all year round. It lets clean water enter and keeps bad things out.
Today, Dujiangyan still plays an important role in the local area. It waters large areas of farmland and provides food for millions of people. With the help of modern technology, the project works better than ever. It shows the great ideas of ancient Chinese people and teaches us to live in peace with nature. It is truly a wonder of engineering and a treasure for the whole world.
47. What do you know about the Dujiangyan Irrigation System from Paragraph One?
A. It’s one of the greatest modern water projects in China.
B. It lies on the Jialing River in Sichuan Province.
C. It has made the local people’s lives better.
48. What problem did the Chengdu Plain have before Dujiangyan was built?
A. There was no land for farming.
B. There was dry weather all year round.
C. There were both water shortages and floods.
49. Which of the following divides the river into two parts?
A. Yuzui. B. Feishayan. C. Baopingkou.
50. What does the underlined word “blocking” mean in Chinese?
51. Why is the Dujiangyan Irrigation System a treasure for the whole world?
A. Because it shows humans can live in harmony with nature.
B. Because it can work better than any other modern technology.
C. Because it has become the largest irrigation system in the world.

However, our inventions can be dangerous, too. For example, people killed a lot of wild wolves (狼) many years ago. A few years later, the number of wild rabbits became larger. ____55____ Much of the grassland became desert. If we kill one part of the food chain, other parts also die. When I was six years old, Grandpa and I went into the forest to gather pecans (山核桃). Pecan picking was really hard work. I walked for hours, searching the grass for the pecans. My legs ached and my hands got dirty. By noon, I felt tired, but there were only a few in my basket. I almost wanted to give up. Just then something caught my eye. A large brown squirrel (松鼠) was not far from me. I watched as he picked up a pecan, hurried to a tree and hid it in a large hole in the tree.
I ran over to the tree and looked into the hole. It was filled with pecans! I took all of the pecans out and put them into my basket. Now it was full. I was so proud of myself and I ran back and showed them to Grandpa. He looked into the basket and said: “Well, well, where did you find so many?” I told him about the squirrel and how I took the pecans from his hiding place.
Grandpa congratulated me on how clever I was. Then he said, “That squirrel worked very hard to gather food for winter. Now all of his pecans are gone. What do you think the squirrel will eat in those cold days?”
Suddenly I felt so guilty (内疚的). I knew one thing had to be done quickly, though I really liked pecans...

A. what B. how C. where
【答案】A
what“什么”;how“如何”;where“哪里”。根据“I couldn’t believe… I saw."可知,believe后接宾语从句,从句中saw是及物动词,缺少宾语,表示“我所看到的事物”,用what引导。
20. — You ________ have been very fearful at that time.
— Yes. I was shaking all over with fear.
A. should B. must C. might
should应该;must一定;might可能。 I was shaking all over with fear.” should have been表示“本应该”,与事实不符;might have been表示“可能”,语气不确定,与答语的肯定性矛盾。
21. In the following days and nights, those soldiers, firemen, doctors and nurses raced against time ________ as many people as possible.
A. save B. to saving C. to save
22. What great spirit they showed! I ________ deeply by their courage and hard work.
A. moved B. was moved C. have moved
23. —So you made up ________ mind to become one of them.
—That’s right. Now I’m a nurse.
A. your B. yours C. yourself
【答案】A
固定短语make up one’s mind意为“下定决心”,应用形容词性物主代词your修饰mind。
24. One day, I signed up to help another hospital. The work wasn’t as ________ as before.
A. easier B. easiest C. easy
25. Ye Man, the head nurse, gave me a lot of help. And I ________ so surprised to learn that she had offered a helping hand to Wenchuan 18 years ago.
A. seemed B. sounded C. felt
26. —I want to say I’m so lucky to have such ________ amazing experience in life.
—Love leads to love, and so creates a circle of good will and kindness.
A. a B. an C. /

D项“Lions can run very fast and they are the best hunters.”
前文说海洋中的情况类似 (陆地上有顶级捕食者),后文描述鲨鱼游得快、用牙齿捕食,F项“Sharks are one of the sea animals at the top of the food chain.”

E项“The wild rabbits shared the grass with sheep and cows.”

Dear Mr Smith,
I’m glad to hear that our club is going to have a study tour. Now I’d like to share my plan for the “Get Close to Nature, Protect Hainan” activity. I suggest we visit Hainan Wuzhishan Tropical Rainforest. The reasons are as follows. First, Wuzhi Mountain is called “the Lungs of Hainan” because its thick forest makes the air clean and fresh, so it’s good for us to get close to nature. Second, it’s also a great place to gain new knowledge. We can learn the names of different trees and flowers that are only grown in Hainan.
If we go there, we can walk in the forest, watching birds, plants and flowers. Then, how about making cards and hanging them on the trees, plants and flowers? By understanding the laws of nature, people can learn how to protect them and live in nature more happily.
I hope you will consider my plan.
Yours,
Li Hua
Dear Mr Smith,
I’m glad to hear that our club is going to have a study tour. Now I’d like to share my plan for the “Get Close to Nature, Protect Hainan” activity. I choose to visit Hainan Dongzhaigang Mangrove Nature Reserve. I have two reasons for that. First, it’s near Haikou, so we won’t spend too much time on the way. Also, mangroves are special plants only seen along Hainan’s sea. They give homes to many birds and small sea animals.
If we decide on this place, we can explore how mangroves grow and stop strong waves. Besides, we can plant young mangrove trees. I think that must be fun. Most importantly, it’s a good idea to collect rubbish around the area. This activity will help us understand the importance of nature and develop a sense of protecting our environment.
I hope you will consider my plan.
Yours,
Li Hua
