This ____3____ take from less than 15 seconds to more than 5 minutes. ____4____ do they do that? According to scientists, the smaller ants can eat the tiny, energy‑rich bits they take from the bigger ants’ bodies. For the bigger ants, the smaller ants help clean special parts of their bodies. These parts are too small for them to clean on their own. This is just like how little fish clean sharks under the water. It is a ____5____ relationship that is good for both sides. 1. 根据后文that is good for both sides对双方都有好处,helpful表示“有益的”。 B Desert Beauty If you ask most people about the desert, they might describe sand and rocks. Arches National Park in Utah shows a different ____6____. Visitors to Arches are surprised by the life and ____7____ in the desert. Wildflowers and cactuses add bright colors to the red rock. D 12. A 13. C 14. B 15. 前文出现Some of them,固定搭配some…others… 前文“over the course of 100 million years”说明过程极其漫长,slowly意为“缓慢地”匹配漫长时间;quickly“快速地”,suddenly“突然地”,easily“轻易地”均与漫长形成过程矛盾。 三、阅读理解(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) A I’m here to get my glasses, Because things are kind of blurry(模糊的). Grandma says, “Be thankful. They’ll look perfect, not to worry.” The doctor takes them out, “No peeking(偷看). Count to three. Now, Alice, look around the room, And tell me what you see.” I see Grandma’s smile, And letters on the wall‑ The big‑G on the top and the Y That’s very small! With these I’ll follow that rabbit, And avoid the Queen in ________. I won’t get lost in Wonderland, And surely keep my head. I’m thankful for my spectacles, And what they help me see. But most of all, I’m quite obliged(感激的). Behind them, I’m still me. ‑Adapted from Alice Thanks the Looking Glass(es) by Patti Richards 16. Why did the doctor say, “No peeking. Count to three.”? A. Because the room was in a mess. B. Because he hadn’t found the glasses yet. C. Because he’d like Grandma to see with the glasses first. D. Because he wanted Alice to see after putting on the glasses. 17. According to the rhyme (押韵) in the poem, which word should be put in “________”? A. yellow B. red C. pink D. blue 18. Which picture best shows the letters on the wall? A. B. C. D. 【答案】16. D 17. B 18. 【16题详解】 第三句“The doctor takes them out, ‘No peeking(偷看). Count to three. Now, Alice, look around the room, And tell me what you see.’” 【17题详解】 根据“I won’t get lost in Wonderland,”以及“And surely keep my head.” 【18题详解】 诗歌内容“The big‑G on the top and the Y That’s very small!”,只有第一张图符合这个描述:G在墙的顶部位置,Y在底部,且G远大于Y。 B Many years ago, flying to another place sounded impossible. In fact, science has made it real. Could fantasy stories become true with the help of science? Sleeping Beauty Could anyone sleep for 100 years? Of course not. But some animals and plants sleep long. Bears and snakes sleep for months through the winter. They slow down their breath, lower body temperatures and don’t eat or drink. Some seeds can dry themselves out and hide in the dark for years. If scientists can move these characteristics to humans, Sleeping Beauty might be born. Talking to animals In the real world, talking to animals isn’t easy, but scientists are working towards it. Tiny cameras have collected thousands of hours’ animal conversations. Then, special programs connect the sounds to possible meanings. These programs may let us talk back to animals in the future. Super strength In fairy stories, the lucky ones found magic food to get power. But it’s a pity that scientists haven’t invented any magic food that can make us strong in a second. In fact, we can get super strength with the help of smart machines. Mechanical exoskeletons (机械的外骨骼) are like wearing a robot. They can be used to help people with disabilities walk easily. That’s pretty super. Invisible coat (隐形衣) Some animals are quite good at changing colours to hide themselves. If you want to have an invisible coat, here is good news for you! Scientists have invented new materials that can change the directions of light around objects. ________. Hiding larger objects, such as humans, is even harder, but the new materials could cover our coat and make us at least harder to be seen. 19. What do bears and snakes probably do while sleeping through the winter? ①stop eating and drinking ②slow down their breath ③hide in the dark ④dry themselves out ⑤lower body temperatures A. ①②④ B. ①②⑤ C. ②④⑤ D. ③④⑤ 20. According to the passage, what progress have scientists made? A. Helping people change skin colours. B. Talking to animals through programs. C. Getting super strength through machines. D. Making people sleep for months in winter. 21. Which of the following sentences can be put into the blank? A. However, these new materials can only hide small objects so far. B. Scientists have already used these materials to hide human bodies easily. C. Lots of animals change colours mainly to look more beautiful in nature. D. People can buy invisible clothes made of the new materials in shops now. 22. Which part of a magazine is the passage most probably taken from? A. Sports. B. Travel. C. History. D. Science. B 20. C 21. A 22. 【19题详解】 根据第二段“But some animals and plants sleep long. Bears and snakes sleep for months through the winter. They slow down their breath, lower body temperatures and don’t eat or drink.”,可知熊和蛇冬眠时会:①停止进食饮水、②放缓呼吸、⑤降低体温,对应①②⑤。 【20题详解】 根据第四段“In fact, we can get super strength with the help of smart machines. Mechanical exoskeletons (机械的外骨骼) are like wearing a robot.”,说明科学家已经研发机器实现超强力量;A选项文中无使人改变肤色的成果;B选项“和动物对话”仅处于研究阶段,未来才可能实现;D选项人类冬眠仅为设想,尚未实现。 【21题详解】 根据空白后句子“Hiding larger objects, such as humans, is even harder”,前后存在转折逻辑,A选项“However, these new materials can only hide small objects so far.” C Adventures take place not only in the real world, but also in the fantasy world. The following is one of them. Nils hung on to Morten’s neck as the tired goose (鹅) landed on a small rocky land. The other geese around were angry because they found a human among them. “Go away!” cried a young goose. “People always hurt us!” Akka, the elder leader (首领), stopped them with a raised wing. “Remember how he saved us from that fox (狐狸) twice today?” She looked at Nils, who looked very cold in his wet clothes. “Why did you save us, boy?” “I... I was a bad boy,” Nils said in a low voice, thinking of his past unkind acts. At this, Akka’s face became soft. “Then hear this, all flock! Now he is not bad Nils, but Little Thumb— our friend!” The geese made loud sounds—some happy, some still worried—till Akka waved her wings. “Our rule: If someone saves us, he or she will become our family!” One by one, the geese touched Nils’ arm with their wings, making him feel surprisingly warm. The smallest goose even gave him a green plant— their symbol of shared meals. Morning came with their first difficult task: crossing the open sea. “Stay low!” Akka said in the strong wind. Nils, now traveled with his goose friend Morten, learned how birds move in such strong wind. When huge waves made them wet, he didn't cry but laughed like the young geese— making Akka smile proudly. That evening, as the geese cleaned themselves, Nils noticed some unusual sounds in the woods. Without thinking, he made a perfect alarm-cry (警报叫声)—a sound he learned just by listening. The geese took wing right away, running away from the fox. “You see?” Akka told the worried geese. “He has good hearing, and he learns well!” She let Nils stay under her wing like a baby goose. Above them, the Northern Lights danced—— nature’s celebration of their new friendship (友谊). (To be continued) 23. What can we know about Nils? A. He was always popular among the geese. B. He saved the geese from a dog twice yesterday. C. He traveled with the geese together to cross the open sea. D. He kept quiet when he noticed unusual sounds in the woods. 24. Which is the correct order (顺序) of the scenes in the story? A. a-d-b-c B. a-d-c-b C. d-a-c-b D. d-c-b-a 25. The writer uses the punctuation mark “!” many times in the story to ________. A. make readers feel surprised B. make the sentences look important C. show several strange parts of the story D. express the characters' strong feelings 26. What is the story mainly about? A. The difficult task of flying in strong wind and bad weather. B. The importance of following rules and traditions in a group. C. The dangers geese meet in the face of humans and other animals. D. The beginning of a special friendship between a boy and some geese. C 24. B 25. D 26. 根据文章第七段“Morning came with their first difficult task: crossing the open sea...Nils, now traveled with his goose friend Morten, learned how birds move in such strong wind.” 文章中多次使用感叹号,如“Go away!”,“People always hurt us!”,“Then hear this, all flock!” D The rotating (旋转的) lantern, known in Chinese as Zou Ma Deng, is a traditional Chinese folk lantern. It is an early example of the use of heat principles (原理). The lantern had different names throughout history and even spread to other countries. Today, modern versions of Zou Ma Deng can still be found in toy shops. The Kongming lantern also works on the principles of heat. The difference is that it rises into the sky because hot air lifts it up, while the rotating lantern spins (快速旋转) in place because of air convection (对流). 1. The frame of the lantern is traditionally made of bamboo or wood. 2. A thin iron wire (铁丝) is placed in the centre as a turning axis (轴). 3. In the middle of the axis, two iron wires are crossed. Paper cut‑outs of people, horses, and other figures are attached to their ends. 4. A small fan wheel is fixed above the axis. 5. A candle is lit under the fan wheel. The candlelight shines on the paper cut‑outs and projects their shadows onto the lampshade. 6. The heat from the candle warms the air. The hot air rises, and cooler air flows in to replace it. The moving air pushes the fan blades, causing the central axis to rotate. As the axis turns, the paper cut‑outs move round and round, and their shadows appear to come alive. The Development of the Rotating Lantern Qin and Han Dynasties The early form of such lanterns probably existed as early as the Qin Dynasty. Historical text describes a tall green jade (玉制) lamp shaped like a dragon in the Xianyang Palace (咸阳宫). When it was lit, the dragon’s scales (鳞片) appeared to move. In the Han Dynasty, a craftsman named Ding Huan (丁缓) made a Boshan incense burner (博山香炉) that used rising hot air to make its decorations turn. Tang and Song Dynasties During the Tang Dynasty, rotating lanterns became very popular at the Lantern Festival. In the Song Dynasty, the lantern was also called “Horse‑Riding Lantern”. Because paper‑cutting art developed greatly at this time, the lanterns became more delicate (精美的). In addition, the Lantern Festival celebrations were extended to five days, which helped the lantern spread widely among ordinary people. Ming and Qing Dynasties During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the themes of rotating lanterns continued to expand. New creative forms appeared, such as paper figures made from scallion stalks (葱管). Through trade, the rotating lantern was introduced to Persia (波斯), Europe, Japan, and other regions. It became a popular decorative toy overseas as well. 27. What is the similarity between the rotating lantern and the Kongming lantern? A. Both depend on electricity to work. B. Both turn heat energy into movement. C. Both were designed mainly for children. D. Both changed a lot throughout history. 28. The underlined word “project” probably means “________”. A. send something away to a far place B. stop something from being seen clearly C. change something into a different shape D. cause something to appear on another surface 29. Why did the lantern spread widely in the Song Dynasty? A. Because the emperor allowed ordinary people to make it. B. Because the Lantern Festival lasted longer than before. C. Because paper‑cutting art developed a lot. D. Because it was made of affordable materials. 30. What can we learn from the development of the rotating lantern? A. Ancient Chinese people valued decoration. B. Traditional crafts changed little over time. C. Trade helped the spread of culture, especially craft. D. Chinese crafts are popular decorative toys. B 28. D 29. B 30. 【27题详解】 第一段指出走马灯是热量原理应用的早期范例“It is an early example of the use of heat principles (原理).”,第二段点明走马灯和孔明灯均依靠热力原理运作,将热能转化为运动形式“The Kongming lantern also works on the principles of heat....because of air convection (对流).”。 【28题详解】 根据第5点内容“ The candlelight shines on the paper cut‑outs and projects their shadows onto the lampshade”可知,烛光照射在剪纸人物上,将影子投射到灯罩表面,可推断project意为“使某物出现在另一表面上”。 【29题详解】 根据Tang and Song Dynasties部分“In the Song Dynasty...the Lantern Festival celebrations were extended to five days, which helped the lantern spread widely among ordinary people”可知,元宵节庆祝时长延长,助力走马灯在民间广泛传播。 【30题详解】 根据最后一段“Through trade, the rotating lantern was introduced to Persia, Europe, Japan, and other regions. It became a popular decorative toy overseas as well”可知,贸易促进了走马灯这一传统工艺的海外传播,体现出贸易助力文化尤其是工艺传播。 31. It starts in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado and goes southwest into the ocean in Mexico. The river is called “the lifeline for the Southwest” in America. It runs through seven states in the US and provides fresh drinking water for over 40 million people. Farms, factories and tourism also greatly depend on it. Many dams (大坝) have been built to help save water and make electricity for cities. Hoover Dam is the largest one along the river. However, the water in the Colorado River almost gets used up during its journey. Because of a warming climate, there is much less snowfall in the mountains and less water runs into the river. The Southwest has been going through the worst drought (干旱) these years. Although the water in the river has become less, the need for it has even risen. Over the past twenty years, the river has lost about 20 percent of its flow and there has been very little water running into Mexico. Now scientists say that the river probably won’t ever reach the sea again. In the face of such a great challenge, the seven states that depend on the river for water have decided to cut their water use by about 25%. But it seems to be a difficult task. In fact, since 1922, an agreement called the Colorado River Compact has governed (管理) how the seven states share the water in the river. However, the agreement just works in times of plenty but it seems to be useless under drought. Now it’s very clear that efforts are far from enough. Actually, not only the Colorado River, but many other rivers around the world are also in danger of being used up. Their water levels are going down. So it’s time for every one of us to step up and do our part to stop rivers from disappearing. The Colorado River Introduction The Colorado River, which is about 2,334 kilometers ____56____, starts in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and ends in the sea of Mexico. ____57____ People call it “the lifeline for the Southwest” because it matters a lot to seven American states. ★Many farms and factories depend on the river, and it even attracts a large number of ____58____ each year. ★Cities along the river can save water and produce electricity by ____59____ dams like the Hoover Dam. ____60____ ★Global ____61____ leads to less snowfall and more drought. ★The river’s flow has dropped by about 20% over the past 20 years. The river may ____62____ arrive at the sea again according to scientists. ★ The water supply has dropped, ____63____ people’s need for water is growing. Actions ★Facing this great challenge, the seven states have decided to cut their water use by about 25%. ★An agreement called the Colorado River Compact, governs how the states share water, but it ____64____ to play a role during drought. It shows that we need ______65______ efforts to make a difference. Conclusion Many other rivers worldwide are at risk of being used up and everyone should take action to prevent rivers from disappearing. 56. long 57. B. 31. In the past few years, young people in China have started new ways to have fun.
