参考范文:
Our school hall witnessed a lecture focusing on environmental protection shared by an expert from
our city's Bureau of Environmental Protection yesterday afternoon.
Armed with his experience in environmental protection,he listed some examples reflecting how
seriously our planet has been damaged. On top of that,he introduced some organizations that have made
great contributions to our environment. At last, the expert gave some practical tips, such as how to save
energy and how to protect the environment in our daily life.
When the lecture came to an end,we firmly believed that every small action counts and that
everyone can make a difference.

I spent my childhood bodysurfing with my grandmother on Long Island in New York and snorkeling
(around the coral reefs of the Florida Keys with my dad.I even got to try SNUBA diving-a form
of surface-supplied diving that uses an underwater breathing system-at just 8 years old.
When it came time for college,I never considered anything other than a science major.I earned a
bachelor's degree in wildlife science from Virginia Tech. After graduating,I worked as a biological
technician for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)in North Carolina, assisting
with a range of projects that included staring at photos to count the barnacles (on dolphin fins,as
well as checking up on dolphin stomachs to document their contents.
After working for a couple years,I attended graduate school to earn a master's degree in marine
biology from Florida Atlantic University. For my research,I worked with Denise Herzing,Ph.D.,
founder and research director of the Wild Dolphin Project.I spent my summers living at sea in the
Bahamas,free-diving among dolphins to study their behavior, communication and ecology.Even with the
temperamental(喜s怒无常的)crew, seasickness during rough seas,.and painful skin problems because
of stings(蛰伤),it was a dream come true.
Getting used to human presence, those dolphins granted me access to the most intimate moments of
their lives.I observed baby dolphins learn to swim and hunt, watched mothers nurse their young and
glimpsed males'fights for the attention of shy females.Watching their relationships and struggles due to
human activity,I ultimately developed an interest in storytelling and conservation photography.
Now,I try to combine my scientific background, writing and artistic ability to help people emotionally
connect to wild subjects and experience the wonders of nature.I hope my efforts in science communication
increase ocean literacy, raise awareness of conservation issues, and inspire positive action toward the
environment.
24.Why does the author mention his childhood in paragraph 1?
A.To show he had a wonderful childhood.
B.To tell about his growing environment.

D.To recommend activities in the sea.
25.How did the author choose his major?

In some cities,as many as one in four office spaces are empty. Some start-ups are giving them a second
life.Vertical (indoor farms-where crops can be grown in climate-controlled environments using
the latest planting techniques-have been popping up around the world.
The open-plan nature of most modern offices makes them suitable for indoor farm use.Still,
repurposing, particularly to ensure a space can accommodate the proper equipment and has proper
electrical, heating, ventilation ()and air conditioning systems, can be difficult.
The Calgary Tower Project, developed by the company Agriplay Ventures, has worked to overcome
these challenges..Agriplay uses 1-by-2.5 m modular racks(有标准组件的架子)rising up to3 m tall,
which can easily adapt to any space with ventilation. The racks are also easy to remove once a project is
completed.
Unoccupied office buildings are often close to final consumers. In a former paper storage warehouse
in Arlington, about a mile outside of Washington,D.C.,Area 2 Farms is growing over 180 organic
varieties of green vegetables.By serving consumers within 10 miles or less, the company has driven down
transport costs and any associated carbon footprint.
Energy use,however,is the "Achilles'heel"of this field,says Fraser.Vertical farms need a lot of
electricity to run lighting and ventilation systems, smart devices, and automated harvesting technologies.
"But if energy is sourced from renewable sources, they can outperform regular farms in this regard, too,"
he says. They face other challenges, too. And,for now, aside from leafy greens, most indoor facilities
cannot yet mass produce other types of crops like wheat, corn or rice.
"One thing cities dislike is unused spaces that don't drive economic growth,"says Fraser."If indoor
farm projects in cities like Arlington prove successful, others may follow suit."
28.What can be learned about Agriplay?
A.It helps clients locate storage areas.
B.It develops new planting techniques.
C.It focuses on maintaining office buildings.
D.It offers equipment suited for indoor farming.
29.What does the author indicate by mentioning Arlington?
A.The achievements of Area 2 Farms.
B.The benefits of urban indoor farms.

D.The popularity of organic vegetables.

Minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and rare earth elements are essential for wind generators,
electric vehicles, cell phones and other technologies. With demand rising, some are now looking to tap
the seafloor for its vast metal ores. This practice, called deep-sea mining, aims to retrieve (
mineral resources from the ocean floor, hundreds or thousands of meters below the surface.
While exploratory mining to test equipment has occurred at a small scale,deep-sea mining has not
yet been undertaken commercially. Most deep-sea mining interest is concentrated in international waters.
盼
This means the industry's future will largely depend on how the UN's International Seabed Authority
(ISA)decides to regulate it.Despite years of negotiations, the ISA and its membership have been unable
燕
to agree on rules that will govern commercial mining operations in international waters.Meanwhile,
席
opinion remains deeply divided on whether deep-sea mining should be allowed at all.
Supporters argue that deep-sea mining could help meet growing mineral needs for clean energy and
®
digital technologies, while avoiding deforestation and freshwater pollution linked to land-based mining.
班
They also claim offshore extraction might reduce human rights abuses in supply chains.

fun part.Let yourself get lost in the process and just play. It's the physical act of making art that causes

alone or continue climbing to find a safer spot to call for help.Lila felt a wave of panic-she was terrified
of being alone on the mountain, and the harsh weather made the journey even tougher. She sat on a rock,
tears mixing with rain, and wanted to give up.
