Threets was a shy, homeschooled kid."Books were my first friend,"he says. His love for libraries began at age three.Though he once dreamed of being an astronaut,he"kind of stumbled" into library work after chatting with a librarian and asking how she got to work there. She explained, and he applied for a position, got the job,and never looked back. When he first wrote about the interactions he'd had with kids in libraries on Facebook,he got a few likes. Then he switched to videos on TikTok and his audience exploded. These days he answers questions from kids, does funny skits(and generally bigs up the library system whenever he can. What makes Threets'message powerful? His belief that libraries are all about belonging."If you're mentally ill, unhoused,a teen,or a grown-up-you have a spot in the library,"he says. Libraries offer not just books, but also films, games, computers, even legal help.As a person of color,he grew up with few books about people like him.For him, libraries are places of joy and discovery, where any child can find a hero who looks like them or a world they've never imagined. As English writer Neil Gaiman once wrote, libraries are one of the few places you can exist without spending money. Through his videos,Threets has inspired a love of reading in kids and adults. Many grown- ups tell him,"You reminded me of books I loved as a kid."His social media profile says it best: "Having fun isn't hard when you've got a library card." 11.What led Threets to work in a library? A.His personal mission. B.His dream in childhood. C.His casual talk with a librarian. D.His success on social media. 12.What is the role of libraries according to Threets? A.A home for kids to grow up. B.A platform to realize dreams. C.A tool to fight discrimination. D.A place for everyone to belong. 13.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Reading:The Key to Personal Development B.Mychal Threets:From a Shy Kid to a TikTok Star C.Modern Libraries:More Than Just a Place to Read D.Social Media Star:Connecting People with Libraries 高二类语第2页(共8页) al“"1%o¤ 可只 B In 2008,England initiated a program to increase people's access to science-based self-help interventions and psychotherapy(心理治疗).Now known as talking therapies for anxiety and depression, the program provides support to more than one million people a year, most of whom receive treatment within six weeks. It also offers researchers a large database of information about users, therapies and outcomes. Using data from this program,Argyris Stringaris and his colleagues at University College London analyzed outcomes for more than 1.5 million people who used the talking therapies from 2015 to 2019.Just over 1.2 million of them were aged 25 to 65,while the rest were aged 16 to 24. The researchers used two standard surveys to measure how symptoms changed after therapy. In people aged 16 to 24,survey scores improved by about 35%,compared to about 41%in those aged 25 to 65.The younger group was also about 20-25%less likely to achieve recovery or significant improvement. Several factors could play a role in these differences, such as a generational gap in the effects of things like social media on mental well-being.Data also indicate that young people are more likely to skip scheduled sessions, leading to poorer outcomes. Still,it is important to consider the benefit of therapy,Stringaris says."You're getting young people at a time of enormous transition in their lives,as they're going in and out of colleges and trying to get jobs, with things quite unstable in terms of their living circumstances,"he says."This observed difference does not necessarily mean that the benefit of therapy is lower for young people than for older adults, because without treatment they might have been even worse off." Thousands of young people might have recovered if they had responded to treatment as effectively as older adults,Stringaris adds."It is critical that mental health services think about tailoring their pathways towards care that better suits younger people." 14.What was the main purpose of the talking therapies program? A.To popularize science. B.To offer emotional help. C.To encourage research. D.To inspire young people. 15.What do the research findings suggest? A.The survey scores might be unreliable. B.Older adults need different treatments. C.Treatment outcomes are related to age. D.Younger people are against talking therapies. 16.What can be inferred from Stringaris's comments? A.Young people need customized care. B.New therapies need to be developed. C.Mental health problems are common. D.Older adults benefit more from therapy. 高二英语第3页(共8页) al“"1…%o¤ 可只 C When people try to listen to a faint (sound, many naturally close their eyes. The common belief is that removing visual distractions (helps the brain focus more on hearing, making it more sensitive. Is this really the case? To find out, researchers from Shanghai Jiao Tong University carried out a study.Participants listened to a range of sounds through headphones while background noise was played.Their task was to adjust the volume until they could just barely hear the sound over the noise. The experiment included different visual conditions:eyes closed, eyes open looking at a blank screen, viewing a still image related to the sound, and watching a matching video. The results were contrary to expectations.Closing the eyes actually made it harder to detect faint sounds, while watching a matching video significantly improved hearing sensitivity. To understand why this happens, the researchers tracked brain activity during the tests. They found that closing the eyes puts the brain into a state that increases filtering (of incoming information. This doesn't just reduce background noise-it also blocks the very sounds people are trying to hear.Researcher Yu Huang explained,"The internal focus from eye closure works against you in noisy settings, leading to over-filtering.Visual engagement helps keep the auditory (听觉的)system connected to the outside world.” This effect seems specific to noisy settings. In quiet settings, closing the eyes may still help. But since daily life environment is often noisy, keeping your eyes open may be the better strategy. The team plans to continue studying how vision and hearing interact. One key question is whether the benefit comes simply from having visual input,or from seeing something that matches the sound."We want to test mismatched pairs-for example, what happens if you hear a drum but see a bird?"said Huang. 17.Why did the researchers conduct the study? A.To support a traditional belief. B.To test a widely held assumption. C.To explore ways to improve hearing. D.To examine human sensitivity to sound. 18.Which task did the participants perform in the experiment? A.Identifying the target sound. B.Memorizing different sounds. C.Playing the background noise. D.Judging the quality of a video. 19.What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A.Practical use of the research findings. B.A doubt regarding the research design. C.Supporting details for the research results. D.A detailed account of the research methods. 20.What will the team's future research focus on? A.Vision and sound pairing tests. B.Factors that affect vision. C.Varied benefits of visual input. D.Strategies to distinguish sounds 第二节语句排序(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分) 将下列语句(A、B、C、D和E)按题号排序,构成一个符合逻辑的完整语篇。 21 → 22 23→ 24 25 高二英语第4页(共8页) A.By offering such benefits,we have attracted many new customers who are happy to spend money on digital content. Another problem area is the cast.Whether the cast are accepted by audiences can make or break a film.27 Meanwhile, readers of the book use their imaginations to visualize characters and have very definite ideas about how characters should look and sound.28 One may think that it is the book writer who is in the best position to do film adaptations. In fact, sometimes writers are very involved in the process and may even be the screenwriter. 29 They may be too close to the material and find it difficult to adapt to a new form.At other times they are not involved, and there are instances where writers have been very unsatisfied with the film versions of their work. 30 And possibly the best proof of a successful adaptation is the James Bond series, the majority of which has been adapted from the 007 novels of Ian Fleming.Perhaps unusually, audiences seem to accept that the actors who have played James Bond have changed so often, although everyone seems to have their favorite. A.They are familiar with their works. B.One problem concerns the types of films. C.This, however, can actually be a disadvantage. D.As a result, filmmakers often face criticism from readers. E.Actors are often chosen according to filmmakers'preferences. F.A key question is obviously how close to the original the film is. G.Despite the challenges, there are successful films made from popular books. 高二英语第5页(共8页) al“"1…%oa 可织 第三部分综合应用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节完形填空(共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入 空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 Exactly one year ago,I was sitting in my room, feeling like my world had permanently collapsed.I poured my heart out to a group of 31 online. My post blew up,and one private message 32 everything.
