My Favorite School Activity
Every March, our school holds a Charity Sale,a traditional event aiming to raise funds for children in
mountainous areas.
Days before the event,we busied ourselves preparing various items. While some brought used books, others
contributed hand-made crafts or daily necessities. On the big day,the campus was alive with excitement.Every
class set up a unique booth, attracting crowds of teachers and students eager to contribute.
I cherish this activity deeply.Beyond enabling us to lend a helping hand to those in need,it instills in us the
values of gratitude and compassion, proving that even small efforts can make a huge difference.
My Favorite School Activity
When it comes to traditional school activities, the Annual Reading Festival is undoubtedly my top choice.
Held every spring, this week-long event features a wide range of activities, from grand book fairs to sharing
sessions.I cherish walking among the stalls piled with books, hunting for hidden treasures. The real magic happens
during discussions, where I engage in lively debates with peers over plot twists, gaining fresh perspectives. It offers
a platform where students freely exchange favorite books and share profound reading insights.
I value this festival immensely.Beyond broadening my horizons and enriching my spiritual life,it allows me
to bond with like-minded friends.Indeed,it is a very meaningful activity that fuels my passion for learning.

We had a sports meeting.It was fun..”
Tvy

Self-confidence helps us do better in school, try new things, and face challenges. If you want to feel more
confident, here are some ways to start.
Set small goals and reach them.

goals, you may feel proud and brave.Step by step, you will be ready for bigger challenges.Track your progress by
writing down your achievements.Seeing how far you've come will remind you of your ability to succeed.
Speak kindly to yourself.
Don't say things like“T'm not good enough..”Instead,tell yourself,.“I can try,”orI'n improving.”Use
positive words to build your personal strength.Avoid comparing yourself to others too much.
Learn from mistakes.
Everyone makes mistakes.Instead of feeling bad,ask yourself what you can learn.Try again with a better plan.
Remember, every success begins with effort, and failure is part of growing.
With these steps, your confidence will slowly grow.Believe in yourself, and you'll discover how great you
really are

21-25 ABDBA
26-30 DCBDA
31-35 CADCC
36-40 DFCBE
A篇
2l.A. She starts a thrilling adventure of the imagination.”,其中
22.B.Nesting Dolls文中提到Through a set of nesting dolls, her African grandmother provides comfort.”,
Maybe a Whale文中描述“After grandpa's
death,Mom takes the writer on the trip...",the writer knows grandpa remains present.A sweet reminder to
是Once upon a Book和Maybe a Whale的部分内容,但非两书共同核心;C项(文化差异)仅在Nesting Dolls
23.D.文章开篇是典型的网站导语:“Welcome to Fanfare,the Horn Book's annual best books list!If
you're interested in reading more.just click the link at the bottom of this page.'
24.B.根据第二段he read a report about the declining population of Arctic seabirds.I realised that if I
didn'tact, future generations might only see these birds in books,'可知,他最初的决定是因为读到海鸟数量下
25.A. 该词出现在描述他工作艰辛的语境中:“He often treks miles through knee-deep snow,
battling freezing winds..”
B(缓慢驾驶)、C(小心攀爬)、D(快速奔跑)均不符合此艰难雪地行进的场景。
26.D. Thompson说:“As long as my legs can carry me,.I will keep. The Arctic has given me
a purpose,,and I feel I must repay it by protecting it.”
A项(期望他人加入)原文未提及;B项(承认年迈的限制)与“Age is just a number''及他的决心相
者”。A项(北极冰原之旅)太泛,未突出“保护”;B项(地理学家的新篇章)不准确,他退休前是教师;
文章开篇即点明核心发现:“Shakespeare does benefit children's literacy..but only if
they can act him out.”
A(创作原创剧本)、C(背诵台词)、D(观看专业演出)均与“亲自表演”这一核心方法不
符。
29.D. 第四段指出,目标组“put themselves in Romeo's shoes and expressed that character's
组“expressed deeper empathy and expressed emotions more vividly''(表现出更深的共情,更生动地表达情感)。
A项与原文wrote at greater length”(写得更长)
事实相反;B项与原文used more complicated or rarer words'”(使用更复杂或更罕见的词汇)所体现的词汇
30.A. 根据第五段O'Hanlon的原话“she had been most surprised by the emotional
nderstanding..”以及“they expressed deeper empathy.”
B(普通的)、C(令人失望的)、D(令人困惑的)均与原文的积极评价相反。
A(熟能生巧)强调重复练习,B(阅读使人充实)强调
B(讨论记忆和食物)、C(强调快乐童年感受)、D(分享个
它is linked to”
A(脑部疾病的早期信号)是部分信息,但
未点明是与“嗅觉丧失”的关联;B(阿尔茨海默病的病因)和C(记忆力衰退的原因)都偷换了概念,原
另一项发现它“improved depression and word recall in dementia patients''(改善了痴呆患者的抑郁和单词回忆)。
A(效果
快速持久)、B(仅限老年人受益)、D(预防脑部疾病)在原文研究中均未提及或证实,属于过度推断。
35.C. Smell each for about30
seconds,morning and evening.”(早晚各一次,即有规律的日程)以及“the goal is mindful awareness'”(目标是
8
Mupy,
其它选项:A.joy(喜悦);C.pride(自豪);D.hope(希望)。
答案:A.mpredictable(不可预测的),由于童年的创伤经历,作者对狗形成了负面的
项:B.lazy(懒惰的);C.lovely(可爱的);D.clever(聪明的)。
答案:D.invited(邀请),本句描述作者在元旦晚餐后的决定。
Murphy was welcomed to the dinner''印证了这一行为。其它选
项:A.left(离开);B.trained(训练);C.walked(遛)。
其它选项:A.excitement(兴奋);B.annoyance(恼怒):D.determination(决心)。
答案:A.knock,knock over是固定短语,意为“撞倒”。
其它选项:B.look(ook over检查);C.wimn(win over说服);D.trip
(trip over绊倒)。
A.noticing(注意到):B.keeping(保持):D.observing(观察)。
其它选项:A.wave(挥动);C.cover(覆盖):
D.hide(隐藏).
其它选项:A.anger(愤
怒);B.patience(耐心);C.confidence(自信)。
极情绪感染、带动了作者,使其暂时放下了戒备。这体现了情感的正向传递。其它选项:A.amazed(使惊讶);
B.frightened(使害怕);C.confused(使困惑)。
答案:A.gentle(温和的),这是Mupy给作者的第一印象。
其它选项:B.noisy(吵闹的):C.hungry(饥饿的):D.energetic(精力充沛的)。
其它选项:A.Therefore(因此);C.However(然而);D.Otherwise(否则)。

When the small plane lifted off from the landing strip,68-year-old Mr.Thompson felt a
familiar rush of excitement.Below him,the green fields and winding rivers gradually gave way
to the expanse of the Arctic ice.He was on his way to Bird Sanctuary No.17,a remote island he
had been visiting for over three decades.
Mr.Thompson's journey began in the 1980s when he was working as a geography teacher,
during which time he read a report about the declining population of Arctic seabirds due to
climate change."I realized that if I didn't act, future generations might only see these birds in
books,"he recalled. After retirement,he spent his summers volunteering as a wildlife monitor.
Every year,he spends two months living in a tiny cabin with no electricity, recording bird flight
patterns and cleaning up plastic waste washed ashore.
The work is physically demanding.Heavy snowstorms often block his view, making it easy
for him to get lost.He often treks for miles through knee-deep snow, battling freezing winds to
check the nesting sites. However, the most rewarding part is the data he collects, which is
shared with international research teams.Last year, his logs helped identify a new feeding
ground, leading to the expansion of the protected area.
Despite his age,Mr.Thompson has no plans to stop."Age is just a number,"he said with
a smile."As long as my legs can carry me,I will keep writing letters to the world with my
footsteps. The Arctic has given me a purpose, and I feel I must repay it by protecting it.
24.Why did Thompson first decide to volunteer there?
A.To record bird tracks.
B.To save birds from dying out.
C.To expand protected areas.
D.To finish his lifelong dream.
25.What does the underlined word "treks"in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Walks difficultly.

D.He values his duty to nature protection.
27.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.A Journey to the Arctic Ice

The grammar school boy from Stratford-Upon-Avon has made headlines again after a
groundbreaking study showed that Shakespeare does benefit children's literacy and emotional
development, but only if they can act him out.
The study found that a drama-based approach to teaching Shakespeare broadened children's
vocabulary, improved the quality of their writing, and improved their emotional understanding.
"The way actors work makes a big difference to how children use language and how they think
about themselves,"said Jacqui O'Hanlon, lead researcher of the study.
The study involved hundreds of Year 5 pupils (aged nine and ten)from 45 state primary
schools. They were divided into a target group and a control group. Both groups were asked to
read a passage from Romeo and Juliet and write a letter as Romeo after being apart from Juliet.
The only difference was that the target group first took part in a 30-minute drama-based activity,
while the control group did not.
It was shown that pupils in the target group drew on a wider vocabulary, used more
complicated or rarer words, and wrote at greater length. They also appeared more comfortable
writing in role. While pupils in the control group imagined how they themselves would react to
being separated from a loved one, children in the target group put themselves in Romeo's shoes
and expressed that character's emotion.
O'Hanlon said she had been most surprised by the emotional understanding shown in the
children's writing, and that they expressed deeper empathy and expressed emotions more
vividly."It is probably related to the drama-based process, where you are used to trying to
think and feel as the character,"she added.
But could the results be reproduced with any old dramatists?O'Hanlon said more research
would be needed.However,she pointed out Shakespeare's unique value:his 20,000-word
vocabulary gives children a huge language improvement.Only when they act the words out with
their whole bodies does this effect come to life.
28.How can children benefit from Shakespeare's works based on the study?
A.By rewriting Shakespeare's plays.
B.By performing Shakespeare's works.
C.By learning Shakespeare's lines by heart.
D.By watching professional acting on stage.
29.What can be inferred about the target group in the study?
A.They wrote shorter texts but expressed more emotions.
B.They struggled with Shakespeare's difficult vocabulary.
C.They preferred writing about their own personal experiences.
D.They could understand and express characters'feelings better.
30.What did O'Hanlon think of the target group's emotional depth?
A.Impressive.B.Ordinary.
C.Disappointing.
D.Confusing.
31.What can be learned from the text?
A.Practice makes perfect.
B.Reading makes a full man.
C.Learning by doing works best.
D.Actions speak louder than words.

The warm, pleasant smell of your grandma's freshly baked cookies-that specific smell
alone can unlock vivid memories of her kitchen and your childhood. But like vision and
hearing, our sense of smell fades with age, affecting many people over 50.
This loss is more than an inconvenience-it's an early warning sign.Losing your sense of
smell is linked to worsening memory, cognition(认知),and overall well-.being,as well as
serious brain illnesses like dementia and depression.Scientists have long recognized this decline
as an early sign of Alzheimer's."Our brains need stimulation (from our sense of smell to
stay healthy,"said Professor Michael Leon,a scientist at the University of California,Irvine.
Fortunately, this decline in smell may be curable through simple treatments like smell
training. In a 2022 study, seniors with depression who trained their noses for several months
saw their problems decrease.Another 2021 study found it improved depression and word recall
in dementia patients. Some studies even showed that smell training, involving the mindful and
repeated smelling of different kinds of scents, can help make the memory part of the brain
stronger.
So,what can we do to improve our sense of smell and potentially support our brains?
Professor Thomas Hummel offers a simple starting point:"Find strong-smelling household
items like spices or coffee.Smell each for about 30 seconds, morning and evening."He
emphasizes that the goal is mindful awareness, and varying scents are beneficial. For example,
you can visit a grocery store to explore different scents,or try other strong-smelling things at
home. However,he warns that "this is not a guaranteed cure".Anyone with long-term
problems should see a doctor,as a loss of smell could also come from a viral infection.
32.What is the author's purpose of mentioning "grandma's cookies"in paragraph 1?
A.To lead to the issue of smell decline.B.To discuss memories and food.
C.To share a personal memory of smell.
D.To express the joy of childhood.
33.What is the main idea of paragraph 2?
A.The early signals of brain illness.
B.The causes of Alzheimer's disease.
C.The reasons for worsening memory loss.
D.The link between smell loss and brain disease.
34.What can be inferred about smell training from the study findings?
A.Its effects are rapid and lasting.
B.Its benefits are limited to elderly people.
C.It improves mental and cognitive well-being.
D.It prevents the development of brain diseases.
35.What does Thomas Hummel mainly suggest people do?
A.Seek medical advice immediately for smell loss.
B.Use common household items for smell training.
C.Combine purposeful practice with a regular schedule.
D.Visit a grocery store regularly to buy strong-smelling foods.

Develop Good Relationships in Senior High
Starting high school can be frightening, but don't worry!Building strong friendships is crucial
for a good high school life.36 However, building those friendships isn't always easy-you may
face confusion, pressure,or even bullying ()To address these challenges, here are four
practical tips for developing healthy, lasting relationships in senior high.
Try to make friends with different kinds of people.
Everybody has something to contribute to your personal growth,so try to communicate with
different people. If you have trouble making friends because you are shy,try to break out of
your comfort zone by starting conversations.37
Choose friends who lift you up,not pull you down.
Look for people who make you feel good about yourself and really back you up.Even just
one or two such friends you can trust and rely on can make high school far easier.38 That's
perfectly natural. It's okay to let go of a relationship that no longer feels supportive or warm.
39
If someone is continually putting you down or making you feel physically scared, talk to
your parents and teachers about it immediately. There's no shame in wanting to be safe, and
these authority figures can help you deal with the bully completely.
Meet friends through shared activities and interests.
Extra-curricular activities are a great way to meet like-minded people and form long-lasting
friendships.Already have a hobby or sport?See if your school offers a related club.40
You'll be surprised how quickly you connect with others.
A.Tell your closest friend about the bully.
B.Let an adult know if you are being bullied.
C.Sometimes,friendship changes as you grow.
D.In fact, the friends you make can shape your entire experience.
E.If not, simply pick something that sounds cool from the activity list.
F.Over time, this will help you build a group of friends who like the real you.
G.Remember, building deep friendships always takes a lot of time and patience.
