It's called a changing world, and that is all about global warming. You don't need to sign your name at the entrance because they have applied the facial recognition system. There are some computers. You can use these to send emails, either to politicians telling them what you want them to do, or to a friend. The Best National Parks to Visit in Winter
While most parks tend to draw families in the summer and fall, there are also ideal spots for adventurous winter trips.
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
The country’s oldest and best-known national park takes on an almost otherworldly atmosphere in winter: the air filled with rolling steam, the strong colors of hot springs, the surrounding white landscapes, let alone the impressive wildlife during this time, like bison, wolves, and playful red foxes. Just book a guided hiking tour to get a ranger’s perspective on the park and local people.
Joshua Tree National Park, California
With its giant red rocks and unique trees, you’ll feel like stepping onto a foreign planet as you spend hours hiking the Panorama Loop or Maze Loop. The park is recognized as an International Dark Sky Park, featuring virtually zero light pollution and the country’s best views of a starry sky.
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
A significantly lower number of visitors in winter means you can take in unblocked views of the South Rim, and get to see the rare beauty of the Grand Canyon dusted with snow. For those adventurous and daring, it is recommended to hike the Bright Angel Trail and take the chance to see the canyon’s wintertime wildlife, including mule deer, elk, and bald eagles.
Virgin Islands National Park, St. John
Surprise! Not all wintertime national park trips need to involve snow. Virgin Islands National Park is most famous for its white-sand beaches. You can also hike inland to visit old sugar plantations, or venture out to the water to swim along with sea turtles and manta rays. You will definitely enjoy a different winter here.
21. Which park will one choose if he/she is interested in stars?
A. Yellowstone National Park. B. Joshua Tree National Park.
C. Grand Canyon National Park. D. Virgin Islands National Park.
22. What do we know about the Grand Canyon National Park?
A. We can have a poor view of the South Rim there. B. It lies in an area with rolling steam and hot springs.
C. There is a slight decline in visitor numbers in winter. D. The Bright Angel Trail is challenging in cold weather.
23. Which activity is mentioned in all of the parks?
A. Hiking. B. Skiing. C. Swimming. D. Hunting.

According to the National Federation of the Blind, fewer than 10 percent of the 1.3 million legally blind individuals in the United States can read Braille (盲文) — a figure that has barely budged in decades. Yet against this discouraging backdrop, one woman has quietly changed countless lives, including that of my son.
Thirty-five years ago, my son Jared was born with total blindness. It was his teacher that recommended Seedlings Braille Books for Children to my family. At that moment, I never anticipated that this non-profit institution would exert a profound influence on my son’s life trajectory. Founded by Debra Bonde, Seedlings originated from a humble voluntary program driven by a special personal motivation.
Debra was, by her own admission, painfully introverted. She wanted a volunteer job that required no conversation. So, she signed up for a Braille transcription class, imagining herself in her Detroit basement, transforming children’s books into Braille, undisturbed. She began transcribing popular titles, printing them on a Braille printer, and selling them for only the cost of the paper.
Word spread quietly among parents and teachers of blind children. Demand quickly outgrew her basement. With help from friends, Debra established Seedlings as a nonprofit, securing grants and donations to cover production costs. She named it “Seedlings” because, as she explains, “if you give a child a book, the love for reading will grow.” To date, Seedlings has produced over 600,000 books, half given away free, half sold at an average of $10 — roughly half the actual production cost.
For me as a mother, Seedlings offered something beyond affordable books. It gave Jared what educators call “typical” experiences. He built a home library. He chose books like any sighted child. Without the literacy skills Seedlings helped provide, Jared would never have become the software engineer he is today.
Currently, Debra no longer finishes all the work alone in her basement. Nevertheless, her original initial intention — helping others modestly without attracting public attention — has never faded and lies behind every Braille book produced by her team. The success of Seedlings conveys a powerful message: there is no need to make spectacular speeches or pursue widespread fame to make a difference to the world. On many occasions, quiet kindness and a small warm act, such as handing a precious book to a longing child, can create incredible power.
24. What did the author initially think of Seedlings?
A. She was skeptical about its practical value.
B. She expected it to change her son’s life greatly.
C. She thought it was unaffordable for ordinary families.
D. She didn’t have the faintest idea of its far-reaching impact.
25. Which of the following can best describe Debra Bonde?
A. Mild and neat B. Shy and generous. C. Helpful and brave. D. Talented and social.
26. What can be inferred about the growth of Seedlings from the passage?
A. It grew due to word-of-mouth recommendations.
B. It expanded mainly because Debra advertised widely.
C. It succeeded only after receiving government grants.
D. It remained a small basement operation for decades.
27. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To persuade readers to donate to Seedlings Braille Books.
B. To explain how Braille transcription is taught and learned.
C. To show how a quiet act of service can create lasting change.
D. To compare blindness education in the past and present.

Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), researchers have recaptured the chirp of the critically endangered Australian Plains-wanderer (领鹑) in Melbourne’s western suburbs — a sight unseen for more than 30 years.
Zoos Victoria has placed 35 sound recorders, known as “song meters”, in Victoria’s Volcanic Plains. Using a set of AI call recognizers designed by Museums Victoria Research Institute and Queensland University of Technology, the song meters are detecting the species’ unique calls in the area where the species was once common. Tens of thousands of hours of monitoring have identified Plains-wanderer calls from one private and one public-owned site. Further monitoring will continue until the end of 2026.
Plains-wanderers are commonly said to be the “Goldilocks” of the animal kingdom as they require very specific habitat conditions to survive. They are genetically different from any other species on the planet and have their own evolutionary line, ranked number one on the Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered bird list.
Once widespread throughout the grasslands of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, it’s now estimated that there are fewer than 1,000 Plains-wanderers remaining in the wild, primarily in two remaining strongholds in Victoria’s Northern Plains and the New South Wales Riverina.
Chris Hartnett, working at Zoos Victoria, said the rediscovery in Melbourne’s west provides opportunities to protect precious Plains-wanderer grassland habitat, of which less than 1 per cent remains in Victoria. “This is a monumental discovery that provides great hope for the future of this special species. We’re excited to work with landowners and managers across Victoria’s Volcanic Plains to protect this precious bird and its native grassland habitat,” Mr. Hartnett said.
The rediscovery is a major milestone in national recovery efforts to save the Plains-wanderer from extinction. In a multi-state cross-agency team effort, conservation organizations have established a thriving population of Plains-wanderers in a national zoo breeding program. The program aims to replenish (补充) wild populations through wild releases of the precious species.
28. What are “song meters” according to the text?
A. Tools used to record and recognize animal sounds.
B. Devices targeted at tracking birds’ songs.
C. Apps designed to study endangered species.
D. Machines used to track hidden animals visually.
29. What can be learned about Plains-wanderers?
A. They rank top for their wide habitat adaptability.
B. They are common on four Australian states’ grasslands.
C. They evolve in a similar way to other species.
D. Their habitat has declined greatly.
30. What does the underlined word “strongholds” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Protective measures B. Main habitats
C. Food sources D. Migration routes
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. AI Technology Used in Wildlife Research
B. A Breeding Program for Endangered Species
C. Innovative Measures to Protect Wildlife in Australia
D. AI Helps Rediscover an Endangered Australian Bird

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) is one of the most honored poets in American literature. Although fewer than twelve of her poems were published during her lifetime, she wrote nearly 1,800 poems. Many of them explore deep themes such as nature, death, and the inner life of the human mind. Her poetic style is known for its unusual punctuation, short lines, and powerful use of metaphor. Dickinson’s unique voice continues to inspire readers worldwide.
One of Dickinson’s most famous poems begins with these lines:
‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers -
That perches (栖息) in the soul -
In just two lines, she introduces an extended metaphor that runs through the whole poem. She compares hope to a bird. Like a bird, hope lives inside a person’s heart and never leaves. This “feathered thing” sings a sweet, wordless song that continues even in the strongest storms. The image of a bird singing in bad weather makes hope feel close and real.
What makes Dickinson’s metaphor so distinctive is the contrast she creates. Unlike a real bird, which may fly away when conditions become hard, the hope-bird never asks for anything in return, not even a single piece of bread. It simply stays and sings, offering comfort without expecting payment. This quality — giving everything and asking for nothing — is rare. This idea that hope gives us so much yet asks nothing of us has made the poem enduringly popular for over 150 years.
Another striking feature of the poem is its deliberate simplicity. Dickinson avoids complex imagery or difficult language. Instead, she uses everyday objects — feathers, a bird, a resting place, a piece of bread — to describe one of the most abstract human emotions. By making the abstract feel concrete, she allows readers to see, feel, and even hear hope in a completely new way. This simplicity is a careful choice, not a lack of skill.
For many readers, the poem offers not just beautiful literature, but also a comforting message about the human spirit. No matter how harsh life’s storms become, hope remains with us, forever ready to sing. In this way, a simple metaphor becomes a lasting source of comfort that still touches hearts today.
32. What does the author mean by “extended metaphor”?
A. A metaphor developed through several related details.
B. A metaphor used a single time in a poem.
C. A metaphor comparing two different emotions.
D. A metaphor that repeats the exact same line.
33. What makes Dickinson’s metaphor unusual?
A. The hope-bird flies away when life gets tough.
B. The hope-bird sings only during storms.
C. The hope-bird never leaves or asks for anything.
D. The hope-bird is a real bird living in the soul.
34. How does the author discuss the poem’s simplicity?
A. By arguing simple poems are more valuable.
B. By comparing her skill to other poets’.
C. By listing complex words Dickinson avoids.
D. By showing how ordinary items make hope concrete.
35. According to the passage, what can be inferred from Dickinson’s poem about hope?
A. The song of hope can barely be heard by those who have suffered greatly.
B. Hope is more valuable during difficult times than that in peaceful ones.
C. Hope’s strength lies in its continuous presence without demanding anything.
D. Hope is like a bird that must be fed regularly to keep singing.

Watching documentaries can help people build determination and establish good routines. This improved lifestyle may reduce anxiety. However, when it comes to TV dramas, many people often reject the idea. ____36____
The most important benefit of watching TV dramas is that it helps change your perspective. When you watch a self-help video, you receive lessons, examples, and practical advice. ____37____ TV dramas, in contrast, give you access to the struggles and thoughts of different characters. The exchange of information is multi-sided. When you consider an event from all angles, you realize that you cannot control everything.
____38____ When we deal with daily stress, we often feel that the world is falling upon us. Characters in TV dramas face challenges too, but we as viewers are separate from their experiences. As a result, we have a bird’s-eye view of the story. And this view is exactly what we need to reduce anxiety in the real world.
TV dramas also help us understand the power of change in both stories and real life. Through stories, we begin a journey and witness progress in a fictional world. These changes are imaginary. ____39____ For example, in The Tale of Rose, the main character experiences many hardships over years. She believes that achieving certain goals will bring her happiness. Throughout her journey, she faces many setbacks, and her understanding of success changes. The character’s evolution in the drama reflects real life. ____40____ But after many attempts, we realize that our heart was not truly in it.
A. We want something and we spend years chasing it.
B. But they often mirror events that could happen in real life.
C. We also experience many failures when pursuing our dreams.
D. Consequently, most of the knowledge is passed on in one direction only.
E. Watching documentaries is a well-known way to fight anxiety.
F. TV dramas give us a valuable chance to see the world from a distance.
G. In fact, watching TV dramas can also help you overcome anxiety.

My grandfather, a man in his eighties, had always been proud of his garden. Every summer, he grew tomatoes, cucumbers, and sunflowers that seemed to reach the sky. When I was little, I used to run around in that garden while he worked. Those were some of my happiest memories.
This year, however, his health had been failing, and he could no longer tend to the garden by himself. I promised to help him. He smiled and said, “That would mean a lot to me.” I was away at college, so helping him meant a two-hour drive. But as summer got busier with my part-time job and friends, I kept putting it off.
One Saturday morning, Grandfather called me. “The weeds are taking over,” he said quietly. “Do you think you could come by this weekend?” I hesitated, then said yes. But when the weekend came, I went to a friend’s party instead. I told myself I would go next week.
The next week, I got a call from my mother. Grandfather had fallen while trying to pull out the weeds himself. He was fine, but the garden was now a mess — the vegetables were dying, and the sunflowers had bent to the ground. I felt a sharp pain in my chest, but I was too ashamed to face him. I told myself again that I would go next weekend, but I never did.
A month passed. One evening, my mother handed me a small envelope. Inside was a dried sunflower and a note in my grandfather’s shaky handwriting: “I saved this for you, from the last one standing. I guess some things can’t wait.”

C 18. A 19. C 20. B
W: Now, I want to tell you about a fantastic new exhibition at the Science Museum. It’s called “A Changing World” and it is all about global warming. You don’t need to sign your name at the entrance because they have applied the facial recognition system. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is hundreds of pairs of Wellington boots. Everyone needs to put on a pair of these because the whole exhibition area is flooded with water. The idea is to show what will happen if sea levels continue to rise. It really makes you think! One of the best exhibitions is the one about the Arctic. In this room there is a huge block of ice, which is slowly becoming liquid. There are also a number of photographs, which show really clearly how the sea ice is disappearing year after year. As you walk around the exhibition, you’ll see that all over the walls there are posters which explain the causes and effects of global warming. The content was written especially for this exhibition by a number of well-known scientists, so you can be sure you are getting the most up-to-date information possible. At the end of the exhibition there are some computers. You can use these to send emails, either to politicians, telling them what you want them to do, or to a friend. You can let them know what you have learned or give them some advice on what they can do to stop global warming.

D 25. B 26. A 27. C

A 29. D 30. B 31. D

根据第二段中的“Zoos Victoria has placed 35 sound recorders, known as “song meters”, in Victoria’s Volcanic Plains.(维多利亚动物园已在维多利亚州的火山平原地区放置了35个录音设备,称为“song meters)”以及“Using a set of AI call recognizers designed by Museums Victoria Research Institute and Queensland University of Technology, the song meters are detecting the species’ unique calls in the area where the species was once common.(借助维多利亚博物馆研究所与昆士兰科技大学联合研发的一套人工智能鸣声识别设备,这些声音记录仪能够在该物种曾经广泛栖息的区域捕捉领鹑独特的鸣叫声)”可知,song meters是用于录制并识别动物声音的工具。
根据第四段中的“Once widespread throughout the grasslands of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, it’s now estimated that there are fewer than 1,000 Plains-wanderers remaining in the wild, primarily in two remaining strongholds in Victoria’s Northern Plains and the New South Wales Riverina.(这种动物曾广泛分布于昆士兰、新南威尔士、维多利亚和南澳大利亚的草原地区,如今估计野外仅存不到1000只平原游荡者,主要栖息在维多利亚州北部平原和新南威尔士州河谷地区的两个最后强盛据点)与第五段中的“Chris Hartnett, working at Zoos Victoria, said the rediscovery in Melbourne’s west provides opportunities to protect precious Plains-wanderer grassland habitat, of which less than 1 per cent remains in Victoria.(任职于维多利亚动物园的克里斯·哈特内特表示,此次在墨尔本西部重新发现该物种,为保护珍贵的领鹑草原栖息地创造了契机,维多利亚州现存此类栖息地已不足1%)”可知,领鹑的栖息地大幅缩减。
根据第四段中画线词“strongholds”前面的“it’s now estimated that there are fewer than 1,000 Plains-wanderers remaining in the wild(据目前估算,野外现存的领鹑数量不足1000只)”以及其后的“primarily in two remaining strongholds in Victoria’s Northern Plains and the New South Wales Riverina(主要分布在维多利亚州北部平原与新南威尔士州里维纳地区仅存的两处核心栖息区域)”可知,strongholds在此处指鸟类主要栖息地。
首段“Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), researchers have recaptured the chirp of the critically endangered Australian Plains-wanderer (领鹑) in Melbourne’s western suburbs — a sight unseen for more than 30 years.(借助人工智能技术,研究人员在墨尔本西郊再次捕捉到极度濒危的澳大利亚领鹑的鸣叫声,这是三十多年来该物种首次在此区域被监测到踪迹)”是主旨句,全文围绕AI助力重新发现濒危澳洲领鹑展开。

A 33. C 34. D 35. C
根据第二段“that runs through the whole poem. She compares hope to a bird. Like a bird, hope lives inside a person’s heart and never leaves. (一个贯穿全诗的……。她将希望比作一只鸟。如同鸟儿一般,希望存在于人的心中,永不离去)”可知,作者指出狄金森在诗的前两行引入了一个“extended metaphor”,将希望比作小鸟,随后整个诗歌都围绕这一比喻展开。由此推测“extended metaphor”指的是通过多个相关意象展开并贯穿全诗的比喻。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“What makes Dickinson’s metaphor so distinctive is the contrast she creates. Unlike a real bird, which may fly away when conditions become hard, the hope-bird never asks for anything in return, not even a single piece of bread. It simply stays and sings, offering comfort without expecting payment. This quality — giving everything and asking for nothing — is rare.(狄金森的隐喻之所以如此独特,是因为她所创造的对比。
根据第四段“Another striking feature of the poem is its deliberate simplicity.
根据最后一段“No matter how harsh life’s storms become, hope remains with us, forever ready to sing.(无论生活中的风暴多么猛烈,希望始终与我们同在,永远准备着歌唱)”及第三段“Unlike a real bird, which may fly away when conditions become hard, the hope-bird never asks for anything in return, not even a single piece of bread. It simply stays and sings, offering comfort without expecting payment.(与真正的鸟不同,当环境艰难时,它可能会飞走;而希望之鸟却从不索取回报,哪怕只是一块面包。它静静地伫立着,唱着歌,给予安慰却从不求回报)”可知,作者暗示希望的力量在于它持续存在且不求回报。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

根据前文“However, when it comes to TV dramas, many people often reject the idea.(然而,当谈到电视剧时,许多人常常拒绝这个想法。)”以及后文“The most important benefit of watching TV dramas is that it helps change your perspective.(看电视剧最大的好处是它能改变你的视角。)”可知,前文指出人们通常认为电视剧不能缓解焦虑,后文开始讲述看电视剧的好处,G选项“In fact, watching TV dramas can also help you overcome anxiety.(事实上,看电视剧也能帮你克服焦虑。)”
根据前文“When you watch a self-help video, you receive lessons, examples, and practical advice.(当你观看自助视频时,你会接受到课程、例子和实用的建议。)”以及后文“TV dramas, in contrast, give you access to the struggles and thoughts of different characters.(相比之下,电视剧让你接触到不同角色的挣扎和思想。)”可知,前文说明自助视频是单向接收信息,后文用“in contrast”引出电视剧是双向的信息交流,D选项“Consequently, most of the knowledge is passed on in one direction only.(因此,大部分知识只是单向传递的。)”
根据后文“When we deal with daily stress, we often feel that the world is falling upon us. Characters in TV dramas face challenges too, but we as viewers are separate from their experiences. As a result, we have a bird’s-eye view of the story. And this view is exactly what we need to reduce anxiety in the real world.(当我们应对日常压力时,常常会感到仿佛整个世界都压在了自己身上。电视剧里的角色也会面临各种挑战,但作为观众,我们与他们所经历的事情是隔开的。正因如此,我们得以从全局的视角来看待整个故事。而这种超然的视角,恰恰是我们用来缓解现实生活中焦虑情绪所需要的。)”可知,本段讲述看电视剧能让我们以旁观者的视角缓解焦虑,F选项“TV dramas give us a valuable chance to see the world from a distance.(电视剧给了我们一个从远处观察世界的宝贵机会。)”

The character’s evolution in the drama reflects real life.
根据后文“But after many attempts, we realize that our heart was not truly in it.(但在多次尝试之后,我们意识到自己并非真心投入其中。)”可知,后文以“But”转折,说明我们在追求目标过程中的反思与放弃,A选项“We want something and we spend years chasing it.(我们想要某样东西,并花费数年时间追逐它。)”

I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer. His shaky words echoed in my mind: “Some things can’t wait.” I had been too busy with my own life, too ashamed to face him, while he had been waiting alone in his garden, fighting against the weeds and time. That night, I didn’t sleep, keeping thinking about his bent sunflowers and the promise I had broken. Finally, I made up my mind. I grabbed a bag of sunflower seeds my mother had bought and drove two hours through the night to his house.
The next morning, I showed up at his door with a bag of sunflower seeds. Grandfather opened the door slowly, his eyes widening in surprise. “I’m sorry, Grandfather,” I said, my voice shaking. “I should have come earlier.” He smiled softly and patted my hand. Together, we walked to the garden. I pulled out the weeds while he sat on a wooden chair, telling me where to plant the seeds. By sunset, the garden looked hopeful again. He looked at me and said, “You came. That’s what matters.” I finally understood — it was never about the garden. It was about showing up for the people you love before it’s too late.
