The Silk Road city of Khiva in Uzbekistan is often described as a living museum. The Itchan Kala, the inner city, was the first place in Central Asia to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite its rich history, Khiva has long been relatively difficult to access due to its remote location and limited transport connections. But 2026 is the year when that changes. A new bullet train service is launching.
Anticipating a rise in visitors, Khiva is expanding its tourism offering. Most attractions are concentrated in the Itchan Kala, a historic walled city rich in the spirit of the Silk Road.
Islam Khodja Minaret: Rising 187 feet, as the second tallest tower in Central Asia, it is in the southeast of the Itchan Kala. It is well worth climbing the 175 steps to the top for bird’s-eye views.
Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum: It is a historic monument, just next to the tower, in memory of a famous poet and folk hero in the 13th century.
Juma Mosque: Located at the centre of the walled city, it is a forest of 213 individually carved wooden poles with complex and unique patterns, some of which date from the 10th century.
Nurullaboy Palace: Unlike the other landmarks, it is to the northwest of the walled city. This palace combines architectural styles and technologies from Khiva and Russia.
In addition to its rich history and newly improved accessibility, Uzbekistan’s national dish, plov, has earned UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status. As for the weather, the best time to visit Khiva is spring or fall, with March 20-21 marking Nowruz - a national holiday filled with concerts and activities. To top it off, accommodation options range from restored historic buildings to luxurious hotels that combine Khorezmian style with international service.
21. Why is 2026 a turning point for Khiva?
A. Historic buildings will be restored.
B. It will expand to receive more visitors.
C. A new transport link will improve access.
D. It will become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
22. Which building is located outside the Itchan Kala?
A. Islam Khodja Minaret. B. Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum.
C. Juma Mosque. D. Nurullaboy Palace.
23. What is the text mainly about?
A. The development of tourism in Uzbekistan.
B. The rich history and culture of Central Asia.
C. The architectural wonders along the Silk Road.
D. The tourism overview of the Silk Road city of Khiva.
B
New Year’s gifts may contain more surprises than usual this year, as children open presents that can talk back. Toymakers in China have declared 2025 the year of artificial intelligence (AI) and are producing robots and teddies that can teach, play and tell stories. Older children, meanwhile, are glued to viral AI videos and AI-enhanced games. In school, many are being taught with materials created with tools like ChatGPT. Some are even learning alongside chatbot-assistants. In work and play, AI is remaking the very nature of childhood.
AI promises every child the kind of upbringing previously available only to the rich, with private assistants, personalised courses and tailored entertainment. Children can listen to songs composed for them, read stories in which they star, play video games that adapt to their skill level and have chatbot friends cheering them on. A childhood fit for a king could become universal. Yet this future is filled with both opportunities and hidden traps: a tailored upbringing may lead to loneliness and isolation. What’s more, as their subjects often find out, it can create adults who are ill-equipped for real life. As AI changes childhood for better and for worse, society must rethink the business of growing up.
Being brought up by robots has advantages. Tech firms are already showing how AI can enhance learning, especially where teachers and materials are scarce. Early trials have shown it improves language skills significantly. AI assistants free students from one-size-fits-all classes, where bright pupils grow bored and struggling ones fall behind; AI can even rewrite complex content into cartoons or songs for 8-year-old learners.
Yet there are well-publicised risks in letting children loose on an evolving technology. Toys can go off the rails; children can easily misuse AI. Worse still, the technology quickly learns what its master likes and shows more of it. One-sided relationships with chatbots present a similar risk. AI companions that never criticise, nor share feelings of their own, are a poor preparation for dealing with imperfect humans.
Some basic counter-measures are urgent. Parents should think twice before entrusting their child to a machine; chatbots should have age restrictions; However, the longer-term challenge is to think deeply about how to preserve the socialisation that AI could take out of children’s lives. Schools are the best place to do this. They should take advantage of personalised teaching where it is proven to work. But they must also redouble their efforts to teach things that a robot can’t: to debate, to disagree and to get along with — perhaps even to appreciate — people who are not as sycophantic (阿谀) as a chatbot.
24. Why are several examples cited in paragraph 1?
A. To label 2025 as the first year of AI.
B. To demonstrate AI’s widespread existence.
C. To emphasize academic and leisure activities.
D. To exhibit the technological advances AI brings.
25. What does the author think of the AI-supported childhood?
A. It limits children’s range of choices.
B. It may cause drawbacks in adulthood.
C. It is only available to the privileged class.
D. It enables children to become kings in the future.
26. What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Improving chatbots’ emotional ability. B. Setting AI usage rules for children.
C. Protecting kids’ real-life interaction skills. D. Balancing AI and children’s social skills.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. AI & Kids’ Growth: A Bright Future Within Reach
B. AI’s Influence on Kids: Negative Impacts on Childhood
C. AI and Childhood: Transformation with Pros and Cons
D. Children and AI Tech: An Indispensable Daily Companion

As a youth mental health crisis persists in the US, a new report highlights a significant gap between the level of support that teenagers feel and the amount that parents think their children have. Only about a quarter of teens said they always get the social and emotional support they need, but parents were nearly three times more likely to think they did. The findings are based on nationally representative surveys of nearly 1,200 children aged 12 to 17 and their parents.
The study authors note that the presence of an interviewer may have biased parents to respond more favorably. There also may be a disconnect between the support parents think they’re offering and the type that their teenage children are seeking. A parent’s first instinct is often to provide advice or guidance, while teens tend to want empathy and reassurance.
The new report shows that teens who did not feel that they always or usually had the support they needed were significantly more likely to report a number of poor health effects than those who did feel supported. Depression and anxiety were nearly three times more common among teenagers who did not feel emotionally supported than among those who did; nearly a third of those who did not feel supported reported symptoms like poor sleep, poor health or low life satisfaction.
Experts say it’s important for adults to make intentional time to connect with teenagers in their life. This is especially true in the age of technology and social media. “Often, supporting teenagers is as simple as being curious about what they bring our way and then offering empathy,” Damour said. “Take comfort in the knowledge that helping a teenager feel heard and understood is overwhelmingly the most useful and therapeutic thing an adult can do.”
28. How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph?
A. By providing statistics. B. By giving examples.
C. By quoting an expert. D. By explaining a concept.
29. Why does the gap on support exist between parents and teenagers?
A. They both have a strong bias. B. They define support in different ways.
C. They both have high expectations. D. They avoid communication with each other.
30. What can we learn about the findings?
A. Teens feeling supported are healthier.
B. Parents usually ignore teens’ mental health.
C. Emotional support makes no sense to teens’ health.
D. A third of the teens experience low life satisfaction.
31. What does Damour suggest parents do to narrow the gap?
A. Offer timely medical treatment. B. Fix time to lecture teens.
C. Be a good listener with curiosity. D. Meet teens’ physical needs.

A young artist sketching in remote grasslands met a wounded wolf cub, and did not expect that this incident had rewritten her fate. The story took place in April 2010. When she came to the Ruoerge Grassland in search of creative inspiration, something unexpected happened.
At that time, Li Weiyi happened to hear the story of the wolf king from the mouths of the herders (牧民). The she-wolf had just given birth to a litter of wolf cubs, and the wolf king ran out to hunt for her, but unfortunately mistakenly fell into the herders’ trap and was eventually killed. The she-wolf was fatally poisoned and died as well.
Li Weiyi has a special affection for wild animals. She tracked down the orphaned cub, adopted it, named it Green and brought it back to Chengdu to look after. Li deliberately retained the characteristics of Green, usually feeding it live animals, and cultivating its hunting skills. But a bustling city is not an ideal place for a wild wolf to thrive, so Li returned to the plains to follow the trails of the wolves. Li took three steps, placing Green first among Tibetan Mastiffs, then into the wild and then into the wolf pack. All along, she acted with the wolf and trained it like a mother wolf. After a winter of trying, Green successfully returned to its wolf pack.
In order to save the northwest wolves like Green and arouse people’s attention and protection of wild animals, Li Weiyi turned her story into the book Let Me Accompany You Back to the Wolves, and later made the videos she had shot for Green into documentaries named Back to the Wolf Pack. In 2020, China’s first wild wolf reserve was established — a small but hopeful echo of Li Weiyi’s ten years of dedication.
The story of Li Weiyi and Green has refreshed our view of wolves. She has proved that wild animals and humans can live in harmony.
32. What did Li Weiyi gain unexpectedly?
A. A vivid story outline. B. A source of inspiration.
C. A new purpose in life. D. A better painting skill.
33. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The poor living conditions of herders.
B. The loyal love between the wolf couple.
C. The background story of Green’s adoption.
D. The courageous and tough image of wolves.
34. What does the underlined word “retained” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Used. B. Kept. C. Removed. D. Adjusted.
35. How did Li Weiyi influence others to protect wild animals?
A. She fed Green in Chengdu. B. She set up a wolf zoo.
C. She tracked packs of wolves. D. She used films as a medium.

Street names help us figure out where we are. This can be understood both literally and metaphorically. Some names, like 125th Street, are just descriptions. But often, streets are named after people, which places us in a historical or political context too.
Not far from where my brother lives in north London is a street called Kitchener Road. Just behind the lamp post was an old sign, made of thick iron, bearing the name. ____36____ That sign seems to say this person was and still is deserving of recognition. But Kitchener Road reminded me of Britain’s history of colonial (殖民地的) rule, as the Kitchener (1850-1916) was a cruel British military officer across Asia and Africa.
Saying street names are markers of history attracts two types of criticism. One is that it’s nothing more than a storm in a teacup. Street names don’t really matter. ____37____ But honoring people responsible for killing through street names preserves a celebratory view of that past and normalises it in daily life. So what should we do?
____38____ Another option is the Amsterdam approach. There, a street honoring anti-apartheid (反种族隔离) leader Albert Luthuli has a sign noting: “Formerly: Louis Botha street,” named after a prime minister of colonial South Africa.
Where such names remain, people are creating walking tours to provide full context. In Glasgow, a tour was organized to make people know about the city’s role in the enslavement of people. ____39____ It builds thoughtful ways forward locally.
Walking away from Kitchener Road, I thought of a different Kitchener: the legendary Trinidadian calypso musician. Upon arriving in England, he sang London is the Place for Me. If Kitchener Road must keep its name, I’d prefer to imagine they honor the “King of Calypso,” not the colonial butcher. ____40____
A. Residents rarely notice the street names.
B. My view is that such streets be renamed.
C. Perhaps we should consider the evidence.
D. Perhaps that is a take-back we can all adopt.
E. Another, changing these names erases history.
F. This kind of practice is creative response to damaging histories.
G. To name a street after a person is a way of honoring their achievements.

Winter seemed to have lasted longer than any other season in the year. With Christmas now just a distant memory, Nina decided to plan a project to fill the dark evenings. That was the best thing to do, to get through the endless weeks until better weather started.
Spring was traditionally the time for cleaning, all that extra daylight showing how dirty and dusty the house had become. Instead, Nina decided to spare as much time as was needed to sort out the family photos. Although this sounded like a fairly easy task, the reality was an entire cupboard in the dining room, stuffed with packets of prints. It was truly a massive project.
“Are you sure you want to do this, love?” her husband Steve asked doubtfully. “If you empty all the photos out of the cupboard, they might not fit back in…”
Nina dismissed his concerns. She decided to strike while the iron was hot and began emptying the cupboard of its contents the following afternoon.
As she looked at the photos of her family from years ago, it felt like looking back in time. Her children were now in their twenties and had busy lives and careers. As a result, Nina and Steve didn’t see them nearly as often as they used to. The fact that the photos stopped fifteen years ago only made it worse.
“The house is full of real life nowadays, and we don’t even have pictures of them to look at,” Nina murmured through tears. Those missing fifteen years felt like a gaping hole in their family history.
“You could always look at the hundreds of pictures you have of them on your phone,” Steve pointed out gently.
“It’s not the same!” Nina stated dramatically. “And what if I lose my phone? All those photos will be gone forever!”
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
Steve wiped her tears gently and suggested printing her phone photos for new albums.

C 22. D 23. D

B 25. B 26. C 27. C

根据第一段“New Year’s gifts may contain more surprises than usual this year, as children open presents that can talk back.
根据第二段“Yet this future is filled with both opportunities and hidden traps: a tailored upbringing may lead to loneliness and isolation. What’s more, as their subjects often find out, it can create adults who are ill-equipped for real life. As AI changes childhood for better and for worse, society must rethink the business of growing up. (然而,这般美好前景背后,机遇与暗藏的隐患并存:定制化的成长环境,容易催生孤独感与社交隔阂。更值得警惕的是,长期身处这种环境的孩子,成年后往往难以适应真实社会。人工智能给童年带来利弊交织的改变,整个社会必须重新审视孩子的成长方式。)”可知,作者认为人工智能支持下的童年可能给成年后的生活带来弊端。故选B项。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段“However, the longer-term challenge is to think deeply about how to preserve the socialisation that AI could take out of children’s lives. Schools are the best place to do this. (而从长远来看,我们更需深入思考:如何守住人工智能正在逐步剥夺的儿童现实社交能力。学校正是实现这一目标的关键场所。)”可知,“this”指代要保护孩子们在现实生活中的社交互动、人际交往。故选C项。

A 29. B 30. A 31. C

The findings are based on nationally representative surveys of nearly 1,200 children aged 12 to 17 and their parents.(只有大约四分之一的青少年表示他们总能获得所需的社交和情感支持,但父母认为孩子能获得支持的比例几乎是前者的三倍。 故选A项。
根据第二段中的“There also may be a disconnect between the support parents think they’re offering and the type that their teenage children are seeking. A parent’s first instinct is often to provide advice or guidance, while teens tend to want empathy and reassurance.(父母认为自己提供的支持与青少年寻求的支持类型之间可能存在脱节。父母的第一反应通常是提供建议或指导,而青少年往往想要共情和安慰。)”可知,父母和青少年对支持的定义和需求不同,因此存在认知差距。故选B项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The new report shows that teens who did not feel that they always or usually had the support they needed were significantly more likely to report a number of poor health effects than those who did feel supported.(新报告显示,与那些感受到支持的青少年相比,那些觉得自己没有得到所需支持的青少年出现多种不良健康问题的概率要高得多。)” 故选A项。
根据第四段中的““Often, supporting teenagers is as simple as being curious about what they bring our way and then offering empathy,” Damour said. “Take comfort in the knowledge that helping a teenager feel heard and understood is overwhelmingly the most useful and therapeutic thing an adult can do.”(达莫尔表示:“通常,支持青少年其实很简单,就是对他们所表达的内容抱有好奇,然后给予共情。要明白,让青少年感觉自己被倾听、被理解,几乎是成年人能做的最有用、最有疗愈效果的事,这一点能给我们带来慰藉。”)”可知,达穆尔建议父母做一个充满好奇的倾听者。故选C项。
D
C 33. C 34. B 35. D

根据第一段“A young artist sketching in remote grasslands met a wounded wolf cub, and did not expect that this incident had rewritten her fate.(一位在偏远草原写生的年轻艺术家遇到了一只受伤的狼崽,没想到这件事改写了她的命运。)”
根据第二段“At that time, Li Weiyi happened to hear the story of the wolf king from the mouths of the herders. The she-wolf had just given birth to a litter of wolf cubs, and the wolf king ran out to hunt for her, but unfortunately mistakenly fell into the herders’ trap and was eventually killed. The she-wolf was fatally poisoned and died as well.(那时,李微漪从牧民口中偶然听到了狼王的故事。母狼刚生下一窝狼崽,狼王出去为它捕猎,不幸误入牧民的陷阱,最终被杀死。母狼也中毒身亡。)”可知,第二段主要讲述了狼崽格林被收养的背景故事。故选C项。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线单词下文的内容“usually feeding it live animals, and cultivating its hunting skills.(通常给它喂食活物,培养它的捕猎技能。)”
根据第四段“In order to save the northwest wolves like Green and arouse people’s attention and protection of wild animals, Li Weiyi turned her story into the book Let Me Accompany You Back to the Wolves, and later made the videos she had shot for Green into documentaries named Back to the Wolf Pack.(为了拯救像格林这样的西北狼,唤起人们对野生动物的关注和保护,李微漪把她的故事写成了《让我陪你重返狼群》一书,后来又把她为格林拍摄的视频制作成了名为《重返狼群》的纪录片。)”

G 37. E 38. B 39. F 40. D

由上文“Just behind the lamp post was an old sign, made of thick iron, bearing the name.(就在灯柱后面有一个由厚铁制成的旧牌子,上面写着这个名字。)”及下文“That sign seems to say this person was and still is deserving of recognition.(那个标志似乎在说这个人过去和现在都值得被认可。)”
由上文“One is that it’s nothing more than a storm in a teacup. Street names don’t really matter.(一种观点认为这不过是小题大做。街道名称并不重要。)”及下文“But honoring people responsible for killing through street names preserves a celebratory view of that past and normalises it in daily life.(但是,通过街道名称来纪念那些应该为杀戮负责的人,会保留对过去的庆祝态度,并在日常生活中使其正常化。)”
由上文“So what should we do?(那么我们该怎么办?)”及下文“Another option is the Amsterdam approach.(另一个选择是阿姆斯特丹的做法。)”
由上文“In Glasgow, a tour was organized to make people know about the city’s role in the enslavement of people.(在格拉斯哥,组织了一次游览,让人们了解这座城市在奴役人民中所扮演的角色。)”
由上文“If Kitchener Road must keep its name, I’d prefer to imagine they honor the “King of Calypso,” not the colonial butcher.(如果Kitchener Road必须保留它的名字,我宁愿想象他们是在纪念“卡利普索之王”,而不是殖民屠夫。)”

comfort此处表示“令人舒适的事物”,为可数名词,结合like hot water and traditional Chinese medicine可知,此处用复数形式comforts。
join sb. in doing sth.

Dear Tom,
I’m glad you’re interested in the International Youth Chinese Culture Experience Camp hosted by our school. I’m writing to share some details with you.
The camp features diverse immersive activities: we learned Chinese calligraphy and paper-cutting from local artists, attended classical poetry recitals and tea art performances, and even made Chinese knots to exchange with foreign participants. We also visited a nearby traditional courtyard to experience local folk customs.
All in all, this camp is incredibly rewarding. Not only have I gained a deeper insight into our splendid traditional culture, but I’ve also improved my cross-cultural communication skills. I truly hope you can experience it yourself next year.
Yours sincerely,

注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
Steve wiped her tears gently and suggested printing her phone photos for new albums.

Steve wiped her tears gently and suggested printing her phone photos for new albums. The idea immediately lit up Nina’s eyes. Together, they began scrolling through years of digital memories — smiles frozen in time, holidays bathed in sunshine, quiet moments that told their family’s unwritten stories. Night after night, they sat side by side, selecting, ordering, and waiting for the prints to arrive. When they did, Nina carefully placed each new photo into crisp, clean albums, weaving the recent past back into the family’s visual tapestry. Steve, watching her quiet joy, decided to take a small step of his own — he picked up the phone and quietly called both of their children, suggesting they might visit home soon, if time allowed.
A few days later, Nina heard the front door open in the middle of the day. To her astonishment, there stood her son and daughter, with wide smiles. “Dad said you were rebuilding our history,” her son explained, giving her a hug. “We wanted to see it — and you.” Their eyes fell on the open albums, where old faded prints now neighbored the shiny new ones. “Mom, you’ve brought us all back together,” her daughter said softly, touching a recent picture. In that moment, surrounded by images of the past and the living presence of her loved ones, Nina felt a profound sense of joy and completeness. The project had not just organized photos; it had, in the most beautiful way, brought her family closer together again.
