阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
When a restaurant is ranked as one of the best in the world, it often becomes nearly impossible to make a booking. Here are a few famous restaurants that are almost harder to get into than Harvard.
Franklin Barbecue
In Austin, Texas, Franklin Barbecue is famous for its mouthwatering barbecue. Though the lunch-only restaurant opens at 11 am, co-owner Stacy Franklin admits that on weekends, customers arrive at 6 am. No matter when you arrive, though, you’ll likely wait for at least four hours. “People bring chairs and coolers and throw footballs in the parking lot. We’ve even seen people bring card tables,” she says.
Rose’s Luxury
In Washington, D. C., Rose’s Luxury draws crowds for its amazing farm-to-table menu and friendly service. The restaurant opens at 5 pm, but customers often start waiting at 3 pm. For guests willing to eat at the bar, turnover can be slightly quicker. Those unwilling to wait in line for four hours might do slightly better to come midweek, particularly Tuesday through Thursday.
Damon Baehrel
Chef Damon Baehrel runs his restaurant from the basement of his home. Baehrel’s meals include 15 courses and can run over five hours. They’re regularly described as out of this world. If you want to make a booking, you’re pretty much out of luck. Baehrel stopped accepting them in April 2014.
El Celler de Can Roca
The moment El Celler de Can Roca was listed as the number one restaurant in the world by San Pellegrino, bookings went through the roof. To get a table, you need to book online at midnight on the first of each month, 11 months ahead. Their multiple-course tasting menus are also a multi-sensory event, with dishes that can double as modern art.
21. What is a feature of Franklin Barbecue?
A. It has a playground. B. It only serves lunch.
C. It stops accepting bookings. D. It opens early in the morning.
22. How can customers reduce their wait time at Rose’s Luxury?
A. Eat at the bar. B. Order fast food. C. Avoid midweek. D. Come at 5:00 pm.
23. Where will you go if you want to gain a feel of modern art while dining?
A. Rose’s Luxury. B. Franklin Barbecue. C. El Celler de Can Roca. D. Damon Baehrel.

Evan Budz, a 15-year-old boy from Ontario, Canada, is receiving global recognition for his invention; an autonomous bionic (自主仿生的) sea turtle robot. The robot, which uses AI to monitor (监测) ecological systems underwater, won Budz a first-place prize in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.
Budz was inspired to create this project after he observed the fluent movement of a turtle while camping. He saw potential in the way the turtle moved and invented a propulsion (推进) method that copies the swimming motion of green sea turtles in water. Not only is it a unique way to move through the water, but it also has less impact on the very environments that scientists are trying to protect.
“Water habitats are important for humanity, and the routine surveying of these environments has become necessary,” Budz explained. “Using a creative bionic robot for such analysis ensures low ecological disruption (生态破坏).”
Budz said the robot uses a computer vision imaging system powered by AI to measure coral health, which can detect coral bleaching (珊瑚白化) with 96% correctness. “The information gathered by the robot will ideally allow the right organizations to identify where these threats may be occurring, increasing awareness and supporting efforts to increase the overall health of impacted areas,” Budz said.
“For ecological monitoring, I want to trouble the environment as little as possible,” he added. “That’s why I designed the robot to imitate the turtle, which allows it to conduct monitoring without disrupting other living things.”
For Budz, it’s just another step in protecting the planet, a cause he has cared about for much of his adolescence. “I’ve been conducting a lot of different research and article reviews, and find that the environment is becoming increasingly more impacted by global warming and other human-caused impacts.”
24. What inspired Evan Budz to invent the autonomous bionic sea turtle robot?
A. His desire to get recognition. B. The prize of the contest.
C. His passion for AI development. D. The movement of a sea animal.
25. What is a feature of Budz’s robot?
A. It’s fast. B. It’s low-cost. C. It’s environment-friendly. D. It’s energy-saving.
26. What does the underlined word “imitate” mean in paragraph 5?
A. Copy. B. Track. C. Control. D. Describe.
27. What can be known about Budz?
A. He is socially responsible. B. He is worried about his future career.
C. He aims to become a famous scientist. D. He is uninterested in the impact of global warming.

The rise of social media has changed many aspects (方面) of our lives, and travel is no exception. Social media has completely changed the way we travel, making it more accessible (可获得的), shareable, and sometimes, more expressive. Understanding its impact can help travelers know about this new environment while keeping a balance between the truth and social media influence.
One of the most significant ways social media has changed travel is by providing a never-ending stream of travel inspiration. In the past, people depended on travel magazines, guidebooks, or word of mouth to learn about new destinations. Today, with just a phone in hand, users can look through amazing images, videos, and stories from all corners of the world, making travel dreams more accessible than ever before.
Influencers, bloggers, and even average travelers share their experiences, introducing viewers to places they may have never considered. Social media is filled with hidden attractions, unique experiences and lesser-known destinations, which has aroused people’s desire for travel and their curiosity about faraway places. This constant flow of inspiration fuels the desire to explore new places, contributing to a more adventurous and globally aware generation of travelers.
Planning travel has been changed by social media, too. Instead of depending only on traditional travel agents or booking websites, people turn to social media platforms (平台) to research destinations, accommodations, and activities. Comments and travel vlogs (视频日志) provide real-time insights and tips that guide travel decisions.
While social media has opened up a world of inspiration, it has also introduced new pressures. The fear of missing out has become a major reason for travel. Seeing friends or influencers posting pictures from new locations can stir a desire to try those experiences. This has led to an increase in last-minute bookings, the rise of casual (随意的) short trips, and a growing emphasis on completing the destinations on one’s life list.
28. What can be learned about travel information before the rise of social media?
A. It provided more details. B. It was less easy to get.
C. It sounded more interesting. D. It gave people more ideas.
29. What is a result of sharing travel experiences online?
A. Bloggers are put in danger. B. Old places begin to disappear.
C. More people want to go traveling. D. New travelers become less aware of safety.
30. What is the main reason for social media-driven travel?
A. The fear of missing out. B. Cost savings. C. A chance to show off. D. Fast bookings.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Why Travelers Use Social Media for Trips B. When Social Media Starts Influencing Travel
C. What Benefits Social Media Brings to Tourism D. How Social Media Changes the Way We Travel
D
Some 500 years ago, beavers were hunted for their fur and meat, and disappeared from Britain. Now they are making a comeback — at least in small pockets in Scotland — and that may be good news for flood protection and the restoration (修复) of wetlands, though farmers remain worried that beaver dams (堤坝) will harm their crops and grasslands.
It seems that beaver dams might help prevent flooding, cleanse water, and benefit fish populations and wetland ecosystems. “When it rains, more water gets stored in pools behind the dams, and when it’s drier, water is gently released (释放) to keep rivers flowing,” says Richard Brazier, a professor at the University of Exeter.
Four years ago, two beavers were released in an area that was just a small river flowing through deserted woodland. Within a couple of years, they’d transformed the river into a rich, wetland habitat. “They’ve built 13 dams and had a good effect on how the water flows through the site,” says Brazier. This is the kind of measure that some experts believe would have reduced the impact of the floods in Scotland.
In addition to flood control, beavers may help fish populations. Studies by Paul Kemp of the University of Southampton show that fish populations in rivers with beavers are larger and healthier. The beaver pools provide deep water that fish prefer.
However, beavers don’t always have a positive impact. In Scotland, where there are 50 to 200 beavers along the River Tay, beaver dams sometimes block drainage ditches (排水沟) and create flood risks in farming areas. Beavers also bite trees beside a busy road, and make holes in anti-flood embankments.
So what do these varied impacts mean for reintroducing beavers in Scotland?
A report by Scottish Natural Heritage presents several options, including removing all beavers or allowing their uncontrolled reintroduction. The Environment Agency is also closely monitoring the situation to decide whether the benefits of reintroducing beavers outweigh the risks.
32. Why do farmers feel worried about beaver dams?
A. They will reduce water storage. B. They will pollute drinking water.
C. They will destroy farming land. D. They will increase fish populations.
33. What is Brazier’s attitude to the reintroduction of beavers?
A. Uncaring. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Positive.
34. What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The latest research into beavers. B. The negative effects of beavers.
C. The benefits of beavers on flood control. D. The influence of beavers on local plants.
35. What can we infer about beavers in Scotland?
A. Their future is still being debated. B. They will be completely removed.
C. They will be put under strict control. D. Their relocation has been finalized.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Spending time with friends doesn’t always have to mean going out or planning something for a long time. Sometimes, the most meaningful moments come from a night-in, or simple, shared activities. Admin night is one of them.
36
Admin night is a party-like activity where friends gather to take care of daily tasks together. This includes things like canceling orders, paying the bills, booking those appointments you’ve been putting off, and answering emails. The goal of admin night is to make productivity more fun, more social, and less stressful.
The benefits of an admin night
Admin night offers a way for people to deal with stress and burnout. It’s also a way to make boring tasks fun and gain support from others. 37 . Individuals with ADHD often practice “body doubling,” where they work on tasks alongside others. This can improve their ability to stay focused and follow through on tasks. Psychotherapist Eloise Skinner says an admin night can work wonders like body doubling. 38 . She also says that an admin night offers a chance to have fun with friends.
How to throw an admin night
Admin night is believed to have gained popularity after Wall Street Journal writer Chris Colin invited his friends over for what he called “the least exciting party ever.” 39 — laptops, snacks, music, and companionship. Plan your list of tasks and ideally look for ones that are relatively mindless so that you can chat with friends at the same time without losing your train of thought. 40 .
A. What is admin night
B. In fact, this isn’t a new strategy
C. What is the origin of admin night
D. Getting your life in order is another great reason to get together
E. If you want to throw your own admin night, create a similar atmosphere

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the first time that I had ever run a long race — a marathon. The wind and the rain were cold, and the sun had not yet appeared to warm the day. The starting gun was about to go off any second, and I was ready.
At 28, I felt I was in the best shape of my life. I thought I was completely prepared, having run regularly and participated in several races. But none of those races had been as long as a marathon — 26.2 miles. The longest distance I had run before was just 15 miles. But I was young, full of confidence, and certain that I could make it.
When the gun went off, the race began. I was filled with excitement, and soon the cold weather seemed like nothing to worry about. I focused only on maintaining my position among the other runners. At first, I did have a specific goal in mind — to finish in under four hours. Once I settled into my pace (步伐), though, I quickly realized the goal was well within reach.
After a few miles, I passed an older runner. He looked to be at least 70 years old, and I was surprised to see him in the race. What surprised me even more was that he was ahead of me. He was running slowly, but he kept a steady rhythm (节奏). I passed him without saying a word or offering any encouragement, just continuing to focus on my own race.
By the time I reached the 15-mile mark, I was still on track to finish in under four hours. However, I began to feel tired. My original goal quickly changed from under four hours to four hours and ten minutes, then four hours and 20 minutes. By the time I reached the 20-mile mark, I was out of breath and had to stop running and walk. I moved to the side of the road, struggling to keep my legs moving.

高一英语期末自测·参考答案、提示及评分细则
听力部分录音稿
(Text 1)
W: For those of you working by yourselves, I expect two pages. For those working in groups, three to four pages… Yes, Tommy?
M: Do we need to type the reports?
(Text 2)
W: Hey, there. I run through this park every day. I always see you sitting here on the same bench.
M: I’ve lived in this area for a long time. I come and feed the ducks every day.
(Text 3)
W: This morning, I was able to shower, but I didn’t have time to have breakfast or make my lunch.
M: I made my breakfast last night. Then I had a quick shower and got a coffee on the way to work today.
(Text 4)
W: I have finished cleaning the floor and put all the goods in order on the shelf. So I’m going to leave. Remember to count all the money, shut off the lights, and lock up when you leave.
M: Don’t worry. I got it.
(Text 5)
M: For $6, you can choose one vegetable and one meat dish. For $8, you get two meat dishes and one vegetable. For $10, you get two of each.
W: I’ll have honey chicken, black pepper beef, and one fried vegetable, please.
(Text 6)
W: Where were you today, Jack? I was wondering if you wanted to go looking for jobs together with me.
M: What a shame! That’s exactly what I was doing. I went to a car rental agency, a gas station, and a toy store.
W: How was it? I’ve never applied for a job before, so I’m a little nervous about going myself.
M: It’s super easy. All I did was ask to speak to a manager.
W: Did you talk to one?
M: Yeah, at the car rental place and the toy store. I filled out a job application at the other place. It was so exciting!
W: Maybe I’ll go to the same places as you did. That way, we could work together.
(Text 7)
W: So, you are going to your grandma’s house this weekend? What are you going to do while you’re over there?
M: I was thinking about bringing a book or two. It’s pretty boring over there. Do you have any recommendations?
W: Here’s one. It’s a fantasy called The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. Or this one. I had to read it in English class. It’s called The Handmaid’s Tale.
M: My mother told me I should read that one, too. A science fiction story, right?
W: Yeah. It’s written by Margaret Atwood, a famous Canadian author. There is even a show on TV based on it.
M: Well, I could just download the show and watch it without reading the book. That would save me a lot of time.
W: You could always read The Story of Life by Herman Hicks.
(Text 8)
W: Alan, I need your help! My English paper is due tomorrow, and my computer just stopped working.
M: What do you mean, Caroline?
W: The screen went black and it won’t turn on!
M: Oh, that’s terrible. Has your computer ever had problems before?
W: Never. I just bought it last year. I tried to make an appointment online to get it serviced. The soonest appointment I could get at the Apple Store is Wednesday, but the paper is due on Monday!
M: Let me take a look… Uh, Caroline, it looks fine to me.
W: Whoa! What did you just do, Alan?
M: Nothing. I just plugged it in and turned it on. It looks like the battery just died. That’s why the screen went black.
W: Oh, you have no idea what this means to me!
(Text 9)
W: I need to get a new pair of sunglasses. They need to be strong so they’ll last for a long time. I keep on breaking mine every time I go into the woods to go hiking.
M: At least you still have yours. I’ve lost so many pairs of sunglasses! Even when I tell myself not to, they still come up missing.
W: When was the last time you lost a pair?
M: Earlier today.
W: What? That can’t be. I’ve been with you all day, and I never saw you with any sunglasses on.
M: Ha-ha, I’m just kidding. But seriously, I think the last time I lost my sunglasses was two weeks ago. I wonder if they sell an insurance program that will replace a lost or broken pair.
W: Why don’t you go up and ask them? Sunglass Hut has a very good reputation. That’s where I get all my sunglasses.
M: I’m worried that they won’t take me seriously. And all the pairs in there are super expensive.
W: Come on, let’s go see what they have! Maybe we’ll both leave with new sunglasses!
M: Fine. But we need to find a restaurant first.
(Text 10)
W: Sun School in the town of Ashbert in England is a day school for children aged 10 to 18. Sun School believes that the healthy growth of a child is more important than academic success. It offers a variety of lessons and activities for students to choose from and free time for children to follow their own interests. Classes are small and are based on the individual needs of each child. The schedule is fixed, and students are expected to attend all classes. A weekly school meeting is held at the center of the school. It makes all the decisions that affect the school, including rules, the schedule, and accepting or rejecting new students and teachers. Participating in these meetings gives the children an understanding of how to make decisions and helps them develop their communication skills.

第一节
One possible version:
A Person Who Makes a Difference
The person who makes a difference in my eyes is Mr. Chen, a retired teacher in his seventies. He devotes himself to voluntary work.
Every weekend, he guides citizens along the ancient city wall, offering free lectures on its history and cultural significance. What impresses me most is his passion — he has been doing this for over five years. As a result, countless people, including me, have gained a deeper appreciation of our heritage.
From Mr. Chen, I have learned that even ordinary people with a willing heart can make a big difference, and that protecting our cultural heritage is everyone’s responsibility.
第二节
One possible version:
And then, to my surprise, the elderly man passed me again. He was still moving effortlessly, and his rhythm remained steady despite the heavy rain and strong winds. I was struggling to keep moving, but there he was, running at the same calm pace as before. As he passed, he gave me a smile and said, “You’re almost there, young man. Just keep going!” His energy seemed endless, and I felt a sense of both admiration and frustration. How could he maintain such a steady rhythm? I couldn’t let him outpace me again.
His words struck me hard, and I pushed myself to continue running. I focused on every step, telling myself that I could keep up with him. The race wasn’t just about beating others; it was about pushing my own limits and finding out how far I could go. As I neared the finish line, I couldn’t catch him, but I was proud of the effort I had put in. The elderly man had taught me an important lesson: It’s not about how fast you run, but how you keep going, no matter what challenges you face.
