Ⅰ. A Born on March 21,1958,in Louisiana,Grant Cardone is not a typical celebrity. He didn't come from a wealthy family. He's not a Hollywood superstar, nor does he have some amazing talents, like script-writing,politics or athleticism. However, what he has is something that is available to us all,and that is a determination to succeed. At the age of 25,Cardone took the first job that he could find. That job was as a car salesman. It was a title and a position that Grant was not very fond of.However, the economy was slow, which meant he didn't have many options,so he made it work. Cardone was committed to becoming the best salesperson he could be.So,he invested (投资) heavily in his own self-improvement by reading books and studying his craft and his industry. After committing himself to becoming his very best, his income quickly doubled. And soon thereafter,he became one of the best car salesmen in the country. He eventually moved on to running his own business, and was extremely smart and disciplined (自律的) with his money.Cardone only spent money on what was absolutely necessary for food and housing. He would place anything left over into an investment fund just for the property market. Cardone's focus on learning more so that he could earn more, along with having the discipline to invest his extra money, instead of wasting it on useless things, helped him become a self-made millionaire just five years later by the age of 30. Cardone has since gone on to become a well-known international businessman, speaker and the owner of Cardone Capital,a $1.5 billion investment firm. He's authored the New York Times bestselling books If You're Not First,You're Last, and other famous books like The 10 X Rule, and Axiom Award winning Sell or Be Sold.In addition to this,he also founded Cardone University,a popular sales training platform that has over 50,000,000 and growing users. It took Cardone only five years to completely change his entire life. With the right mindset and sufficient willpower, just imagine what five years could do for you. 1.Why did Cardone choose to become a car salesman? A.To meet a superstar. B.To do research on cars. C.To support himself. D.To maintain his interest. 根据第二段中的“That job was as a car salesman. It was a title and a position that Grant was not very fond of.However, the economy was slow, which meant he didn't have many options,so he made it work.” C 2.How did Cardone handle his money? A.He bought many clothes. B.He helped his family members. C.He spent it on useful things. D.He put most of it in the bank. 根据第三段中的“Cardone only spent money on what was absolutely necessary for food and housing.” C 3.What does paragraph 5 mainly tell us about Cardone? A.His achievements. B.The plans for his company. C.His experiences of education. D.The reasons for his popularity. 故选A。 答案 A 4.What can we learn from Cardone's story? A.Failure is the mother of success. B.Investment is risky but rewarding. C.Making money calls for professional advice. D.Success requires determination and efforts. 通读全文,特别是根据第一段中的“However, what he has is something that is available to us all,and that is a determination to succeed.”和最后一段中的“With the right mindset and sufficient willpower, just imagine what five years could do for you.” D B In recent times, with the rise of electric cars, the idea of fuelling cars with solar energy has also gained in popularity.Electric cars—even though they run on electricity and don't use fossil fuels—are still not green! People suffer from the misunderstanding that not using fossil fuels means “green” which is kind of false, considering the electricity we use is generated by burning the very same fuels! What if your car had solar panels(太阳能电池板) that could charge it? Now that would indeed be a green machine! However, although we would like to use this energy source in our car,the efficiency of currently used solar panels is subject to several different factors. Firstly, solar panels occupy a large amount of space. An average car has an area of 10—25 sq.ft.on the roof, which,if fully covered by solar panels, can generate between 50—150 W under ideal conditions. This is hardly enough power to support a light bulb! Also, the sunlight's temperature needs to be ideal,as extremely high temperatures can reduce the efficiency of solar panels.Cars must work in all weather conditions,so if a solar panel limits the car's functionality,it becomes practically useless.More importantly, the cost of the panels and the development required to power the electronics using the sun's energy outweighs the benefits that solar panels provide. Most cars today that have solar roofs use solar energy to power only a few basic functions. While there is still time before we will be able to drive cars fully powered by solar energy, there are some improvements, such as solar power stations, which are being designed to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels for electricity. Personally,I think solar-powered vehicles are surely the future, although not the near future. As the cost of solar panels continues to fall and their efficiency increases, things will begin to look much “brighter” for this sustainable option! 5.Why do electric cars fail to be environmentally friendly? A.They aren't powered by solar energy. B.They bring more pollution to the world. C.They won't work as well as the common cars. D.They run on electricity produced by burning fuels. 根据第一段中的“considering the electricity we use is generated by burning the very same fuels”可知,电动汽车不环保是因为它们靠燃烧化石燃料产生的电运转。 答案 D 6.Why does the author give an example of the light bulb? A.To show the limitation of solar cars. B.To explain the function of solar panels. C.To indicate the principle of solar energy. D.To call for the advancement of technology. 根据第三段中的“This is hardly enough power to support a light bulb!” A 7.What is the current development of solar cars? A.Pure solar cars will soon be available. B.Solar roofs will be fixed on more cars. C.Solar cars are designed with new functions. D.Solar cars can be charged at some stations. D 8.What's the author's attitude towards the future of solar cars? A.Curious. B.Doubtful. C.Hopeful. D.Critical. 根据最后一段中的“solar-powered vehicles are surely the future, although not the near future...things will begin to look much ‘brighter’”可知,作者认为太阳能汽车肯定是未来的趋势,形势会开始变得更加明朗。 完形填空 “Keep pushing forward,” my father always said whenever I faced difficulties. His words echoed in my mind as I faced a series of 1 after graduating from college.
