A living legend that’s stood for 1, 200 years in Madagascar is now collapsing piece by piece.
Tsitakakantsa, the largest baobab (猴面包树) tree in Madagascar, is slowly dying after living for about 1, 200 years. As a symbol of the island’s unique nature, parts of it have been falling recently due to age and climate change.
The tree stands about 25 meters tall with a trunk (树干) around 29 meters wide. To picture that, nearly 30 people could stand shoulder to shoulder across it. Its name translates to “If you sing from one side of the trunk, the song won’t be heard from the other side,” which perfectly shows how huge it is.
For local people, the tree is more than just a plant; it is special and important. Visitors who want to see and touch it are expected to bring rum (朗姆酒) and honey as a sign of respect before approaching it.
Baobabs can live for thousands of years. They store huge amounts of water in their trunks to survive dry seasons. This allows them to live through droughts that would kill most other trees. However, these giants are now in danger. Scientists say Tsitakakantsa has only two to three years left, and there is little that can be done to save it. Between 2005 and 2017, nine of the oldest African baobabs died or fell down. Research suggests climate change plays a big role in these deaths.
The loss of these trees means a lot to the environment. Baobabs provide food, water, and shelter for countless animals. When Tsitakakantsa finally falls, Madagascar will lose not just a tree, but a living connection to the distant past and a symbol of strength.
4. What does the name “Tsitakakantsa” mainly show about the tree?
A. Its width. B. Its history. C. Its height. D. Its habitat.
5. How do visitors show their respect before approaching the tree?
A. By singing native songs. B. By giving unique plants.
C. By offering sweet honey. D. By providing fresh water.
6. What mainly caused the deaths of the oldest baobabs?
A. The long dry seasons. B. Deaths of other trees. C. The change of climate. D. Severe local droughts.
7. Why are baobabs important to the environment?
A. They support the local wildlife. B. They supply water to the region.
C. They bring strength to the planet. D. They provide shelter to the public.

Growing up in South Tyrol, Italy, I found it natural to go hiking with my family at the weekend. I soon became good at recognizing where other hikers were from by looking at their sportswear. While we Italians often climbed mountains in simple trainers, German hikers usually had huge bags and the most expensive outdoor gear (装备).
Germans quickly become fascinated by all kinds of sports. Seeing a short video about climbing or cycling online is enough to inspire them to take up a new sport. However, the sport is often tried out only once before everything related to it is bought: climbing shoes, special bags, and of course a monthly pass to the climbing hall. This is usually followed by the excuse: “If I’m going to buy something, it should be decent (像样的).” They believe only the really expensive brands meet their requirements. After all, they are serious about the sport they want to take up.
The original excitement is often followed by disappointment. Somehow, they don’t make it to the climbing hall as often as planned. Instead, they tend to let it slide. Their expensive shoes slowly gather dust in the house, but the monthly pass is kept — after all, they want to get back into the sport soon.
Of course, not every attempt at a new sport is unsuccessful. Sometimes, a new sport becomes a true passion. Germans who take up a new sport quickly become the biggest true lovers and adapt their whole lifestyle to it. They meet like-minded people to chat about cycling and watch sports events on TV. More than just having fun, they have to constantly improve, even if they don’t intend to compete. When sports lovers meet in a café, the conversation often turns serious as they compare how fast they are.
I find this culture funny and strange, but also nice. Now, I can’t get enough of sharing my newfound love of climbing, and of ordering a drink in the sports café after a climb. I’m probably much more German than I thought.
8. How did the author recognize the hikers as German?
A. By their simple sports clothes. B. By their ordinary outdoor gear.
C. By their special climbing shoes. D. By their fancy sports equipment.
9. What does the underlined phrase “let it slide” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Ignore the clear mistake. B. Give up the sports habit.
C. Change the original plan. D. Keep the earlier promise.
10. What do true German sports lovers typically do?
A. They attend professional matches. B. They enjoy independent exercises.
C. They desire ongoing improvement. D. They collect expensive equipment.
11. What is the author’s attitude towards the German sports culture?
A. Positive. B. Confused. C. Curious. D. Doubtful.
D
Ever notice how AI chatbots sometimes agree with you a little too much? Users have probably felt upset by AI’s tendency to please people, sometimes at the cost of truth and balance. As a heavy user, I have tried to reduce this. I clearly tell AI not to agree with me naturally, and to challenge my thinking when my reasoning is weak. These small moves help, but they do not fully solve the problem.
The problem has far-reaching effects when viewed from an emotional perspective. A new study looks at how AI that always agrees with users shapes the way people experience human relationships. Across five studies with over 3,000 participants, the researchers found something deeply important: when AI always makes people feel understood and supported, ordinary human conversations may start to feel more difficult and less satisfying.
Students today are not only using chatbots to get answers. Many also use them for advice, emotional support, and personal reflection. Besides producing false information, AI’s habit of saying “yes” can change how students view things around them. Worse still, it shapes what they come to expect from human communication: immediate support, endless patience, constant agreement, and no emotional conflicts (冲突).
However, real relationships do not work that way. Human relationships involve disagreement, misunderstanding, delay, and sometimes disappointment. A friend, teacher, or parent may challenge us, ask hard questions, or refuse to accept what we already believe. That can feel less comfortable than talking to a chatbot, but it is often exactly what helps us grow. Therefore, AI education should not stop at teaching students how to use it efficiently. It must also help them understand what AI can imitate (模仿), what it cannot replace, and why real human communication still matters.
12. What may make users upset about AI?
A. Its balance-keeping habit. B. Its user-pleasing tendency.
C. Its cost-increasing nature. D. Its truth-seeking preference.
13. How might people feel about human conversations after chatting with AI?
A. Less difficult. B. More patient. C. Less pleasant. D. More satisfied.
14. What can we learn about real relationships according to the author?
A. They offer endless patience. B. They ensure total agreement.
C. They provide immediate help. D. They promote personal growth.
15. What is the text mainly about?
A. AI’s hidden value. B. AI’s true strength. C. AI’s great necessity. D. AI’s unseen danger.

It was Friday evening. Mum and Dad hurried to my room, looking worried. They had to go on a sudden business trip and couldn’t find anyone to look after my 6-year-old little sister Lulu. I was a Grade 11 student busy with my monthly exam review, and I really didn’t want to put down my schoolwork to take care of a noisy kid. To make matters worse, I had never been left alone with Lulu before and I hardly knew how to look after her on my own. But seeing Mum and Dad’s worried, helpless faces and Lulu holding Mum’s dress tightly, I agreed unwillingly. Then they left in one hour.
The next morning brought endless trouble. Lulu woke up early and cried loudly, because she hated the plain bread I made and wanted Mum’s warm oatmeal (燕麦). I got upset and raised my voice to stop her crying, which only made her cry harder. Later, I tried to study alone and let Lulu play by herself. Unexpectedly, she knocked over a cup of water, wetting all my exercise books. I lost my temper and shouted at her. She felt wronged, ran to the corner and remained silent with tears in her eyes. I felt sorry for her, yet I had no idea how to deal with the mess and the sad little girl.

A. Positive. B. Confused. C. Curious. D. Doubtful.
【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. A

【答案】12. B 13. C 14. D 15. D

【答案】Dear Kate,
I am terribly sorry that I can’t keep our appointment to visit the local night market and taste delicious food this Friday night.
The reason is that I have to take an important school exam this weekend. I need to make full preparations for it, which leaves me no spare time. I feel really regretful for breaking our plan.
Would you be available next Saturday evening? If it is convenient for you, we can go there then. I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down. Kneeling beside Lulu, I gently wiped her tears. “I’m sorry, Lulu. I didn’t mean to shout,” I whispered. Together, we mopped up the water and hung the wet books to dry. Then I found Mum’s oatmeal recipe and, after several attempts, produced a warm bowl. Lulu giggled at my flour-covered face. That afternoon, she “helped” me review by drawing pictures while I read aloud.
Late the next day, Mum and Dad returned, totally amazed. The kitchen was spotless, Lulu was napping peacefully, and my exercise books sat neatly stacked. “You made oatmeal?” Mum gasped. “And we didn’t fight once,” Lulu announced. Dad ruffled my hair, pride in his gaze. I smiled, realizing that caring for someone wasn’t a burden — it was a connection that enriched my life. This weekend had taught me: love grows when you choose to show up and truly try.
