Putting on your seat belt is one of the most important things you can do to stay safe in a car. Why? 71 You take an egg, place it on a skateboard and give the skateboard a gentle push so it rolls forward. Now, imagine the skateboard suddenly hits a stone. 72 What about the egg? Will it also stop right away? No, it won’t. It will fly through the air, hit the ground and break.
73 When the skateboard hits a stone, the egg won’t go flying. It will stay safe on the skateboard because of the string. That’s exactly what a seat belt does for you in a car.
Airbags are also very important for car safety. 74 If a car is going really fast and runs into something, seat belts may hurt passengers by pulling them too hard. 75 When a car hits something hard, its airbags will come out quickly in less than one second to help people slow down safely.
Together, seat belts and airbags work to keep you as safe as possible in a car accident.
A. The stone flies far away.
B. Think about a simple example.
C. They are used along with seat belts.
D. The skateboard stops almost right away.
E. What if you tie the egg to the skateboard with a string?
F. That’s why most cars have airbags in front of and next to the seats.

A.完成图表 根据短文内容,完成图表中所缺信息。每空不超过3个词。(共5小题;每小题2分,计10分)
A solar eclipse (日食) is a fantastic sight of nature in space. It happens when the new moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. When this happens, some or all of the Sun’s light fails to reach the Earth. It’s like the moon plays hide-and-seek with the Sun! Interestingly, the Sun is 400 times bigger than the moon, but it’s also 400 times farther away. So, from the Earth, the Sun and the moon look about the same size in the sky.
Scientists can tell when a solar eclipse will happen. But we don’t see solar eclipses every month. This is because the moon does not circle the Earth in a flat line. It doesn’t always line up just right with the Earth and the Sun.
Not all eclipses look exactly the same. When a total eclipse occurs, it gets dark outside, just like it’s night. The Sun disappears behind the moon and you can even see some stars! A partial eclipse is when only part of the Sun is covered by the moon. The Sun looks like a crescent (新月) shape. An annular eclipse is very cool. The moon is too far to cover the Sun fully. As a result, a bright ring of sunlight called a “ring of fire” shows around the moon.
Here’s something very important: never look at the Sun directly during a solar eclipse! It can hurt your eyes badly. You should use special eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from the Sun’s strong light. Another safe way is to use a pinhole (针孔) viewer. It projects an image of the Sun so you can watch the eclipse safely.
B.任务型阅读 根据短文内容,按要求作答。(共5小题;每小题2分,计10分)
Good afternoon, everyone! If someone asks me which story character I love most, I will say Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web without thinking twice. Charlotte is a spider. She is not beautiful and she doesn’t have magical powers. But she is wise, kind, and loyal (忠诚的).
When she meets Wilbur, a little pig who is afraid of being made into ham (火腿), she decides to help him. She makes words like “Great” and “Humble (谦逊的)” into her web. The people who see the web are amazed and begin to talk about the special pig. They decide to spare his life.
What touches me most is not what Charlotte does, but why she does it. When Wilbur asks the question, she answers, “You have been my friend. That in itself is a great thing.” She helps him not because she can get something in return. Charlotte gives her time, her energy, and finally her life for Wilbur. That is the deepest love between friends.
Every time I read this book, I am moved again. Chartlotte teaches me what a true friend is like. As the saying goes: “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” So a true friend _________.
