Have you ever heard of Da Shuhua? It’s a traditional performance that is usually given during big festivals, like the Lantern Festival and the Spring Festival. It means “creating tree flowers”. People show it by throwing hot molten iron (熔化的铁) against a cold wall. Upon the wall, the molten iron would explode (爆炸) into thousands of sparks (火花), looking like flowers raining down. The molten iron is about 1,600°C. It’s so dangerous and one may easily get hurt, so, it’s also called “the game of the brave”.
In ancient times, poor people couldn’t pay for expensive fireworks. Then they found that when the heated iron fell on the ground, it could create the similar scene of fireworks. With a lot of experiments, they finally created Da Shuhua and it soon became the way for poor people to celebrate important festivals.
Actually, no other place has Da Shunua, except in Nuanquan, a village in Hebei Province, and there are only four performers left there. What makes matters worse is the fact that most of them are over the age of 40.
Wang De is the youngest performer among them. He took up learning Da Shuhua from his father at age 15. Though he has been hurt several times, his love for it has never faded. He even has a deeper love for it than before. Wang De hopes Da Shuhua, one of the most valuable cultural treasures of China, will become known to more people. “When I was young, I thought it was exciting. But years later, I also felt it was my work to pass it on to the next generation (一代),” he says.

So learning Chinese can help people there find good jobs and make more money. Local people also say that though it’s difficult to learn Chinese, it’s a really beautiful language that helps them know more about China. At the Confucius Institute, they can also learn Chinese kung fu, singing, dancing, and so on.
At the same time, many Chinese people in Ghana also learn the local language. This brings them closer to the Ghanaian people. They live and work well with the people there.

① In the modern world, where time is money, how have our reading habits been influenced? Are we reading more quickly, or do we prefer to read short articles? The answer perhaps lies in the kind of text you’re reading.
② When we’re reading online, we read quickly to search for what we want. Does this mean that as readers we now have far less patience than we used to? Not exactly. Most of this activity is actually skimming to check whether something is useful or interesting and whether we want to read on. We’ll slow down and take a bit longer to properly read the text if the title catches our eye.
③ For those writing in an online environment, this means finding more useful ways of catching the readers’ eyes. For example, putting the key information at the very beginning makes it faster for the time-poor visitors to find what they want.
④ Bu t when we’re reading literature, are the rules still the same? The average readers work their way through a piece of an article at no more than about 250-300 words per minute, which is about a page of text. If you try to read through a book more quickly, then you start to lose a lot of what makes literature such a pleasure. When we read for pleasure, we are much less focused on picking out useful information or key words. Instead, the language itself is as important as the information mentioned. The longer you spend reading an article, the more vivid (生动的) a picture you create in your mind.
⑤ Sometimes getting away from the fast-moving Internet Age is just what we need, so maybe it’s time to slow down and lose ourselves in a good book.
66. Why do people read quickly online according to the text?
A. Because people are becoming less patient than they used to.
B. Because people think the texts on the Internet are boring.
C. Because they need to save time for writing what they want.
D. Because people want to decide whether to read on.
67. The underlined word “skimming” in Paragraph ② most probably means “______”.
A. reading carefully to get every detail B. reading quickly to get the main idea
C. reading aloud to memorize the content D. reading slowly to enjoy the language
68. How does the writer organize Paragraph 3?
A. By giving an example. B. By asking questions.
C. By listing numbers. D. By showing facts.
69. What would the writer most probably like to do?
A. Draw some pictures on the book. B. Enjoy the text while reading slowly.
C. Write an article of 250-300 words. D. Read through a book very quickly.
70. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?
A. ①//②③④⑤ B. ①//②//③④⑤
C. ①//②③//④//⑤ D. ①//②//③④//⑤
第二节 阅读表达(共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面文本,简略回答问题。
For thousands of years, humans have been writing by hand to communicate, keep records, and show their ideas and feelings. Handwriting continues to live these days and it especially plays an important role in school. These years, many students improve their handwriting skills by having calligraphy training classes.
Summer Calligraphy Training Class
Our class is for junior high students!
Time: July15-August 10, 2:00p.m.-4:00p.m.
Place: School Art Room
Sign up: By July 10 at the Student Office.
Let’s write beautifully together!
In some exams, students’ handwriting is even graded (给……评分). People have different ideas about this.
Agree
Disagree
If students are graded on their handwriting, they will take it seriously. Grading will push them to do better.
Regular handwriting practice is good for the brain. Writing makes different parts of the brain start working at the same time. Besides, it develops students’ thinking skills, it also improves their ability to focus.
Writing is part of students’ daily lives. It can make these daily experiences more enjoyable.
Students often show their work online. Since handwriting is no longer important, why do we give students the pressure?
A student with great thinking ability shouldn’t be graded low just because of his poor handwriting. Albert Einstein and Pablo Picass o had poor handwriting, but look at their great achievements.
It is unfair because it pays no attention to the differences in students’ natural abilities.
There is no clear right or wrong answer to whether students’ handwriting should be graded. Schools can decide whether to do it according to different teaching goals and students’ needs.
71. For thousands of years, what is the purpose of people’s handwriting?
