To know body language better, Christina Stach, a 25-year-old healthcare provider, read What Everybody Is Saying by Joe Navarro. “It changed how I communicated with everyone,” she says. While approximately 80% of our interactions with each other are nonverbal — from birth, our body language sends out clues to what we’re thinking, and Stach says, “We can learn to exercise control over it.”
Becoming aware of her own body language, the physician recognized her preferred way of sitting with her arms and legs crossed. While it was comfortable for her, patients considered it discomfort with them. She found the same to be true with eye contact. “I don’t make much eye contact with people because it makes me uncomfortable,” Stach says, “but it makes others think I’m inattentive.”
Armed with the knowledge, she began uncrossing her arms and legs and making more eye contact when in conversation, “Using positive body language helps strengthen patient interactions, and once these habits become natural, you may notice your patients are more receptive to your advice,” she says.
“Talking with patients at eye level is important,” Stach says. “It shows them that I’m here to listen to what they have to say and to make joint decisions about their healthcare.” She recommends that physicians lower their eye level as much as possible by sitting on a low chair facing their patient while the patient remains seated on the exam table.
Eye contact is another important element. “If you’re typing notes into your computer without looking at your patients — even if you are listening and can say everything they said, your body says you aren’t listening,” Stach says. “And you no longer have a closed space of attention with each other.”
Anyway, body language can send a message of care and trust, “In medicine, we’re often in our patient’s face during a medical exam, but when talking with them, being too close may be intrusive, especially in Western cultures where we have broader personal body comfortable distance,” Stach notes. “But in Eastern cultures that distance is much narrower. So, when interacting with people from these cultures, stepping back is seen as offensive(冒犯的) — that’s something to keep in mind.”
4. How did Christina Stach get better at using body language?
A. By keeping practicing it in her family. B. By reading a related book.
C. By learning a lot from professionals. D. By communicating with patients.
5. Why did Christina Stach change her sitting posture and eye contact?
A. To achieve better care results. B. To feel more personally comfortable.
C. To show her professional skills. D. To enhance her specialized knowledge.
6. What is Christina Stach’s suggestion for physicians talking with patients?
A. Avoiding frequent eye contact. B. Making decisions for the patients.
C. Repeating everything the patients said. D. Positioning themselves on lowered seats.
7. What does the underlined word “intrusive” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Relaxing. B. Comfortable. C. Disturbing. D. Formal.
B 5. A 6. D 7. C

根据第一段中“To know body language better, Christina Stach, a 25-year-old healthcare provider, read What Everybody Is Saying by Joe Navarro. “It changed how I communicated with everyone,” she says.(为了更好地了解肢体语言,25岁的医疗服务提供者克里斯蒂娜·斯塔赫阅读了乔·纳瓦罗的《每个人都在说什么》。“这改变了我与大家沟通的方式,”她说)”可知,克里斯蒂娜·斯塔赫是通过阅读一本相关的书来更好地使用肢体语言的。故选B项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Becoming aware of her own body language, the physician recognized her preferred way of sitting with her arms and legs crossed. While it was comfortable for her, patients considered it discomfort with them. She found the same to be true with eye contact.(这位医生意识到自己的肢体语言后,发现习惯性的交叉手臂和双腿的坐姿虽然令自己舒适,却让患者感到不安。她在眼神交流方面也发现了类似问题)”和第三段“Armed with the knowledge, she began uncrossing her arms and legs and making more eye contact when in conversation, “Using positive body language helps strengthen patient interactions, and once these habits become natural, you may notice your patients are more receptive to your advice,” she says.(掌握这一认知后,她在交谈时开始有意识地舒展四肢并增加眼神交流。“运用积极的肢体语言能有效增进医患互动,一旦这些习惯成为自然,你会发现患者更愿意接受你的建议,”她这样说道。)”可推知,克里斯蒂娜·斯塔赫改变坐姿和眼神交流是为了达到更好的护理效果。故选A项。
根据第四段中“She recommends that physicians lower their eye level as much as possible by sitting on a low chair facing their patient while the patient remains seated on the exam table. (她建议医生尽可能降低视线高度,坐在低椅子上面对病人,而病人则坐在检查台上)”可知,克里斯蒂娜·斯塔赫建议医生与病人交谈时坐在较低的座位上。故选D项。
【7题详解】

Scientists have revealed much of the basics about earthquakes: tectonic plates (构造板块) move, causing strain energy (应变能) to build up, and that energy eventually releases in the form of an earthquake. However, forecasting earthquakes remains a significant challenge, which was evidenced by the 2011 great Tohoku earthquake. In addition to causing a tsunami that led to the Fukushima nuclear disaster, it resulted in more than 18,000 deaths.
In recent years, researchers have been trying to figure out a possible relation between the sun and earthquakes. Based on a previous study that connected solar activity with earthquakes, a study conducted by researchers from the University of Tsukuba (UT) cast light on this possibility, confirming that sunspot numbers had some influence on earthquakes and Earth’s climate, as affected by solar heat, played a role.
“Solar heat drives atmospheric temperature changes, which in turn can affect things like rock properties and underground water movement,” said Junqueira Saldanha, leader of the research team. “Such changes can make rocks tend to break apart. For example, the changes in rainfall and snowmelt can affect the pressure on tectonic plate boundaries. While these factors may not be the main drivers of earthquakes, they could still be playing a role that can help to predict earthquakes.”
Among other findings, the researchers used mathematical and computational methods to analyze earthquake data alongside solar activity records and surface temperatures on Earth. They observed that when they included Earth surface temperatures into their model, the forecasting became more accurate, especially for shallow earthquakes. “That makes sense, since heat and water mostly affect the upper layers of the Earth’s crust (地壳),” said Saldanha.
The findings suggest the transfer of solar heat to the surface of the Earth does affect earthquakes, however minutely, and that incorporating solar activity predictions into detailed Earth temperature models may help issue earthquake forecasts. “It’s an exciting direction, and we hope our study can decipher the bigger picture of what causes earthquakes,” said Saldanha.
8. Why did the author mention Tohoku earthquake in paragraph 1?
A. To demonstrate the movement of tectonic plates.
B. To illustrate the difficulty in earthquake forecast.
C. To reveal the heavy losses caused by earthquakes.
D. To stress the necessity of weakening strain energy.
9. What does the study by UT mainly focus on?
A. The climate change caused by earthquakes.
B. The impact of solar activity on atmosphere.
C. The reasons for increased sunspot numbers.
D. The link between sunspots and earthquakes.
10. Which of the following would Saldanha agree?
A. Solar heat decides earthquake frequency.
B. Tectonic plate pressure grows constantly.
C. Earthquakes occur in the crust’s upper layer.
D. Solar activity data helps predict earthquakes.
11. What does the underlined word “decipher” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Reveal. B. Distinguish. C. Expand. D. Assess.
B 9. D 10. D 11. A

Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical (刻板印象的) themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work.
The researchers tracked 4 million works published on the website by the artists. The artists self-divided into two groups: those who continued to work using traditional methods — a sort of control group, and those who adopted AI. The latter group, numbering about 5,800, were identified by the use of tags (标签) on their work, such as “AI-generated” or the names of the AI tools. Works posted into AI art communities on the site were also included.
Artists who adopted AI tools saw their productivity measured by the number of works posted increase by 25 percent over the study period. They also saw a 50 percent rise in the number of “favourites” their work received over six months. But novelty, measured by the subject matter and specific details of the work, decreased for the AI-using group.
“The study completely tracks with my own experience with these tools and spaces,” says Andres Guadamuz at the University of Sussex, UK. “At first, it felt that you could do anything, bring anything in your head into existence, but the more I used them, the more I kept coming back to themes I liked.”
Guadamuz points out that he isn’t judging the quality of the images produced by generative AI nor their originality, nor the creativity involved in the process. All these things are often hotly contested, with some artists saying that generative AI is using their works as training data and limiting their ability to be recognized as creatives.
Zhou at Boston University is also considering these questions. He says, “The generative technology accelerates the ability to produce. But it raises other issues: Are we foregoing the process of understanding what goes into being creative and producing something meaningful, in favour of just being able to brute force our way with technology?”
12. What do we know about the artworks created by AI according to paragraph 1?
A. They are abundant but less creative. B. They are generative but less popular.
C. They balance popularity with artistic depth. D. They attract viewers with the trendy subjects.
13. How was the study conducted?
A. By surveying artists’ opinions on AI tools using.
B. By analyzing suggestions on generative AI works.
C. By comparing artworks with different AI involvement.
D. By observing the process of AI-assisted artistic creation.
14. What can be inferred from Guadamuz’s statement?
A. AI tools help artists explore new creative styles.
B. AI users receive more recognition for their creativity.
C. Artists believe AI improves the quality of their artworks.
D. Artists may repeat themes they like when using AI tools.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Unstoppable Rise of AI Artworks. B. The Breakthrough of AI in Artistic Creation.
C. The Role of AI in Artistic Productivity. D. The Double-Edged Sword of AI in Artworks.
A 13. C 14. D 15. D

根据第一段“Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical (刻板印象的) themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work.(一项涉及 5 万多名用户向一个流行的艺术分享网站提交作品的研究表明,使用人工智能创作艺术作品可以提高艺术家的创作效率,并引发更多积极的反应。但生成式人工智能作品更有可能展示刻板印象的主题,降低了艺术家作品的新颖性)”可知,人工智能创作的艺术作品数量增多(提高了创作效率),但由于展示刻板印象的主题,所以创造性有所降低。故选A。
根据第二段“The researchers tracked 4 million works published on the website by the artists. The artists self-divided into two groups: those who continued to work using traditional methods — a sort of control group, and those who adopted AI. The latter group, numbering about 5,800, were identified by the use of tags (标签) on their work, such as “AI-generated” or the names of the AI tools. Works posted into AI art communities on the site were also included.(研究人员追踪了艺术家们在该网站上发布的 400 万件作品。
根据第四段中的““The study completely tracks with my own experience with these tools and spaces,” says Andres Guadamuz at the University of Sussex, UK. “At first, it felt that you could do anything, bring anything in your head into existence, but the more I used them, the more I kept coming back to themes I liked.”(英国苏塞克斯大学的安德烈斯・瓜达穆兹说:“这项研究与我自己使用这些工具和创作空间的经历完全相符。一开始,感觉你可以做任何事情,把你脑海中的任何东西都变成现实,但我使用得越多,就越会回到我喜欢的主题上。”)”可知,从瓜达穆兹的话中可以推断出,艺术家在使用人工智能工具时可能会重复他们喜欢的主题。故选D。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical (刻板印象的) themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work.(一项涉及 5 万多名用户向一个流行的艺术分享网站提交作品的研究表明,使用人工智能创作艺术作品可以提高艺术家的创作效率,并引发更多积极的反应。

根据前文“By making positive changes in your life you can become better.(通过在生活中做出积极的改变,你可以变得更好)”以及后文“Here are some quick and easy ways to help you become a better person.(这里有一些快速简单的方法可以帮助你成为一个更好的人)”可知,前文在讲在生活中做出积极的改变,你可以变得更好,后文讲述有些方法,所以空处应是过渡句,过渡到方法上,所以F项“However, it may be tough sometimes to figure out how to do it(然而,有时要弄清楚如何做到这一点可能很难)”和前文构成转折关系,并引出下文。故选F项。
分析设空,位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“For this you can ask a trusted friend or family member for help. Being unaware of your weaknesses makes it hard for you to improve. The successful people know where they aren’t strong and they use their strengths to make up for it.(为此,你可以向你信任的朋友或家人寻求帮助。不知道自己的弱点会让你很难进步。成功人士知道自己的不足,并利用自己的长处来弥补)”可知,本段主要讲述了认识自己的不足,所以C项“Recognize what areas you are lacking(认识到你缺少哪些方面)”符合本段主题,为本段中心句。故选C项。
【18题详解】
分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Quitting a bad habit is good for you. It not only makes you a better person, but it makes you more confident. If you aren’t ready to quit your bad habits right away, start out with small steps.(戒掉一个坏习惯对你有好处。它不仅会让你成为一个更好的人,还会让你更自信。如果你还没有准备好马上改掉你的坏习惯,那就从小步骤开始吧)”可知,G项“Find a trusted friend that can give you encouragement if you’re struggling(找一个值得信赖的朋友,在你挣扎的时候给你鼓励)”是对前文讲述的小步骤的详细说明,符合文意。故选G项。
【19题详解】
根据前文“Do you always see the negative side of things?(你总是看到事物消极的一面吗?)”可知,D项“This can have a bad influence on your life(这会对你的生活产生不好的影响)”是对前文的进一步说明,而后句“Negative thinking really makes you down mentally and physically.(消极的想法会让你身心俱疲)”是对空处的详细说明,符合文意。故选D项。
设空为本段小标题,是对本段的高度概括,所以根据后文“Showing other people that you care for them is a great way to be a better person. Small acts of kindness will make other people feel better and lift your spirits as well. Something just like buying a coffee for your classmates can make a huge positive impact on their and your day.(向别人表明你关心他们是成为一个更好的人的好方法。小小的善举会让别人感觉更好,也会让你精神振奋。像为你的同学买杯咖啡这样的事情可以对他们和你的一天产生巨大的积极影响)”可知,本段主要讲述了善待他人,所以A项“Treat others with kindness(善待他人)”为本段小标题。故选A项。

It was the end of exam week, and I had just finished my English paper. I was happy — especially after writing an unusual story that I thought would surprise my teacher. Just thinking about it made me smile, and with that feeling of pride, I headed home. But on the way, my thoughts started to shift. Had I written too much? Was my story too strange? My excitement slowly turned into anxiety.
At home, I dropped my bag on the sofa and went straight for a shower to cool off from the summer heat. The water crashed onto my face, instantly calming me, but only for a while. I still had another exam the next day, so I gathered my books and began studying. Before long, exhaustion (筋疲力尽) overcame me, and I threw my books aside and fell instantly asleep.
When I woke up, it was almost time for my tutoring review. My last exam was coming up, and my tutor wanted me to go over the key points once more. I hurried to get ready, still feeling the weight of tiredness from studying. A few minutes later, I was sitting in my dad’s car as we made our way through the heavy traffic. When we arrived, my mind was already racing with the day’s exhaustion and worries. Soon, my tutor’s voice floated through the quiet room as we went over the notes. I tried my best to stay focused, but the cool air from the air conditioner kept pulling me away.
As the class ended, I stepped outside and called my dad, but the noise made it hard to hear him. When I finally spotted him across the road, waving, he looked anxious. Upon reaching him, I learned the car keys were missing.
“What? You must be joking!” I shouted. The heat, the noise, and my own stress from the day started to rise. We searched his pockets and the ground, but found nothing. The harder I searched, the angrier I became.
“Sometimes,” he said firmly, “you can’t find what you’ve lost by panicking. You only see clearly when you stop running in circles.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dadˈs words landed somewhere deep, calming the storm inside me. For a moment, I realized how foolish I had been — tired, impatient, blaming everyone but myself. I took a deep breath and followed him. We retraced his steps — past the seat where students had left their bags, near the snack machine with its bright lights, and finally to the bushes beside the parking lot. We searched the ground carefully until, finally, a small silver key shone in the sunlight, half-hidden beneath a fallen leaf.
The moment I spotted the key, joy and relief flooded through me. My dad brushed dust off his pants and smiled quietly. Relief washed over me, and my tense shoulders finally relaxed. We got into the car, and the ride home felt different. The air was cooler, yet I stayed alert, noticing waving trees, distant chatter, and the golden late afternoon sun. My dad drove calmly, and for a while, neither of us spoke. In that silence, I realized what began as a long, tiring day had ended with a quiet lesson — growing up means learning to stay calm when things fall apart.

C. Disturbing. D. Formal.
C
C. Expand. D. Assess.
D

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Dad’s words landed somewhere deep, calming the storm inside me.
