No matter how often it’s repeated, let’s all face it — we naturally are quite likely to mirror (反映) the behaviour of those in our surroundings. While it’s neither a good nor bad habit, I believe we should think about how much we let others impact us. Why? Because we’re independent people and we can choose our own way.
Jim Rohn, a public speaker, said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This means our close circle of peers (同龄人) can be seen as parts of ourselves. That’s why I often find it difficult, even now, to go against my family’s or friends’ opinions, because they’re the people I care for most and don’t want to disappoint.
When I was around nine years old, I went to a summer camp where I met lots of other kids. At dinnertime, we’d all gather around in the restaurant. At some point, my group of friends and I decided to have a competition to see “who could drink the most glasses of water.” Little me, very competitive and careless, drank 14 glasses of water in 20 minutes. Obviously, I was encouraged by my friends, who were cheering me on. As the night went on, I was rushed to the hospital.
It’s the feeling of belonging to a group that’s tricky One truth I know for sure now is real friends will always respect your choices. If you’ve thought through it and don’t want to do something, you shouldn’t do it. Your true friends shouldn’t force you to do anything. You’re the master of your own choices. For example, I’ve often turned down some party invitations because I’ve made my own decisions about what I do and don’t want to do. This can, however, leave a cold impression at first, because you’re not following the decisions of the people you may usually agree with. However, in the end, I realize I’m the one who faces the consequences (后果) of my actions, not my friends.
24. What can we infer from Jim Rohn’s words?
A. We should have at least five friends.
B. We’re likely to be average people.
C. We’re easily influenced by people around us.
D. We should spend more time with our friends.
25. What happened to the author in the summer camp?
A. Competitive kids made fun of him.
B. He was invited to hold a competition.
C. He was thought highly of by his friends.
D. Drinking too much water put him in danger.
26. What does the author believe now?
A. True friends are respectful.
B. True friends are hard to find.
C. It’s necessary to make a good first impression.
D. It’s understandable that improper choices are made.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Lead your peers
B. Go your own way
C. Keep fighting in life
D. Be a doer than a talker

While visiting the North Pole in winter may not be at the top of your list, the ever-changing ICEHOTEL, which opened its doors to visitors on December 14 this year, may change your mind. Lying 200 km north of the Arctic Circle in Jukkasjärvi, the hotel, which is carved entirely from ice, is rebuilt annually, with each getting increasingly beautiful and impressive.
The 29-year-old tradition began accidentally in 1989, after Jukkasjärvi residents organized an art show in a 5.5-square-meter ice house to try to call tourists’ attention to the remote village during the freezing winter months. The exhibition was a huge success, attracting many day visitors. However, it was not until a group of adventurous souls arrived with sleeping bags, announcing their intention to spend the night inside the house, that the idea of the frozen hotel was born.
The ICEHOTEL has come a long way since its beginnings. It covers an area of over 5,500 square meters. The planning begins months earlier in March when about 5,000 tons of ice are harvested from the river and transferred to cold storage, where they sit till the beginning of winter. Construction begins in earnest in November, when about 100 workers come to the region. By December, the unique frozen accommodation is ready to open for business.
Regardless of whether visitors select the luxury carved suites or the basic ice rooms, the temperature is always set to a frigid -5°C! That is why guests are advised to lie close inside warm sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats all night. Not surprisingly, most end up spending just a single night at this unique hotel before moving on to the conventional, and warmer, cabins nearby.
In addition to the unique rooms, the hotel also offers guests fun activities like snowshoeing, or dog sledding, and for those brave enough to suffer through the below freezing temperatures — overnight wilderness camping! The hotel’s single restaurant serves food, while the drinks are always chilled to perfection in the world-famous ICEBAR!
28. Why did Jukkasjärvi residents organize an art show in 1989?
A. To attract tourists. B. To follow a tradition.
C. To excite adventurers. D. To experience cold.
29. How to deal with tons of ice harvested from the river in March?
A. Carve them roughly. B. Keep them with cold storage.
C. Design unique forms. D. Construct them slowly.
30. The underlined word “frigid” in paragraph 4 most likely means ______.
A. extremely cold B. a little cool C. comfortably warm D. dangerously hot
31. Which of the following characteristics is necessary for those going camping all night?
A. Wealth. B. Good health. C. Near distance. D. Braveness.

The endangered pandas in the Qinling Mountains might face a new threat: the loss of their food — bamboo, which makes up 99% of their meals.
Adult pandas spend most part of the day eating bamboo and have to take in at least 40 pounds a day to stay healthy. However, a new study published in Nature Climate Change warned that they may soon find their food gone because most of the bamboo in the Qinling Mountains might disappear by the end of the century as a result of the rising temperature worldwide.
A team made up of researchers from Michigan State University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences has studied the effects of climate change on the bamboo in the Qinling Mountains. They have found that bamboo is very sensitive to climate change. “80% to 100% of the bamboo would be gone if the average temperature increases 3.5 degrees worldwide by the end of the century,” said Liu Jianguo, one of the report’s authors.
He added, “This is how much the temperature would rise by 2100 even if all countries will keep their promises in The Paris Agreement. But you know what is happening around the world.”
In recent years, China has been trying its best to protect the endangered pandas by setting up more and bigger nature reserves.
“But it is far from being enough and the endangered pandas need cooperation from the rest of the world, because their future is not just in the hands of the Chinese,” said Shirley Martin from the World Wildlife Fund but not a member of the team.
There are about 260 pandas in the Qinling Mountains. That is about 13% of the China’s wild panda population. In addition, about 375 are living in research centers and zoos in China.
32. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A. The Qinling Mountains can provide enough bamboo for the pandas.
B. Pandas in the Qinling Mountains are only threatened by the loss of food.
C. Lots of bamboo in the Qinling Mountains will probably disappear.
D. Pandas have already eaten 99% of the bamboo in the Qinling Mountains.
33. What can be inferred according to Liu Jianguo’s words?
A. China needs more help from the World Wildlife Fund.
B. It is difficult to control the temperature rise within 3.5℃.
C. Pandas can adapt to eating other types of plants.
D. China is making great efforts to protect the pandas.
34. How many wild pandas are there in China?
A. About 260. B. About 2,375. C. About 2,635. D. About 2,000.
35. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. The Disappearance of Bamboo B. Necessity to Change Pandas’ Food
C. A New Threat Faced by the Pandas D. Efforts Made to Save Pandas

C 25. D 26. A 27. B
根据第二段中的“This means our close circle of peers (同龄人) can be seen as parts of ourselves. That’s why I often find it difficult, even now, to go against my family’s or friends’ opinions, because they’re the people I care for most and don’t want to disappoint. (这意味着我们的同龄人的亲密圈子可以被视为我们自己的一部分。这就是为什么即使是现在,我也经常发现很难违背家人或朋友的意见,因为他们是我最关心的人,不想让人失望)”可推知,Jim Rohn所说的话的意思是我们很容易会被身边的人影响。故选C项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Little me, very competitive and careless, drank 14 glasses of water in 20 minutes.(小时候的我,很争强好胜,粗心大意,20分钟喝了14杯水)”以及“As the night went on, I was rushed to the hospital.(夜幕降临,我被紧急送往医院)”可知,那年夏令营作者因为在短时间内喝了太多的水,以至于身体不适最终去了医院。
根据最后一段中的“One truth I know for sure now is real friends will always respect your choices.(我现在肯定知道的一个事实是,真正的朋友会永远尊重你的选择)”以及“Your true friends shouldn’t force you to do anything. You’re the master of your own choices.(真正的朋友不应该强迫你做任何事。你是自己选择的主人)”可推知,作者现在认为真正的朋友不会强迫彼此做决定,而会相互尊重。故选A项。
You’re the master of your own choices.(你是自己选择的主人)相呼应。故选B项。

D. Braveness.
A 29. B 30. A 31. D

根据第二段“The 29-year-old tradition began accidentally in 1989, after Jukkasjärvi residents organized an art show in a 5.5-square-meter ice house to try to call tourists’ attention to the remote village during the freezing winter months.(这项已有29年历史的传统诞生于1989年,纯属偶然。当年尤卡斯耶尔维的居民在一间5.5平方米的冰屋里举办艺术展,希望在严寒的冬季吸引游客关注这座偏远村落。)”可知,当地居民举办艺术展是为了在寒冷的冬季吸引游客注意这个偏远的村庄。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“The planning begins months earlier in March when about 5,000 tons of ice are harvested from the river and transferred to cold storage, where they sit till the beginning of winter.(筹备工作早在数月前的三月份就启动了:人们从河里开采约5000吨冰块,转运至冷藏库储存,一直存放至初冬时节。)”
根据下文“That is why guests are advised to lie close inside warm sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats all night.(那就是为什么工作人员建议客人们整夜蜷缩在保暖睡袋里,同时戴好手套和冬帽。)”
根据最后一段“and for those brave enough to suffer through the below freezing temperatures — overnight wilderness camping!(也为那些足够勇敢、能扛住零下严寒的游客准备了野外过夜露营项目!)”

C 33. B 34. D 35. C
根据第二段中“However, a new study published in Nature Climate Change warned that they may soon find their food gone because most of the bamboo in the Qinling Mountains might disappear by the end of the century as a result of the rising temperature worldwide. (然而,发表在《自然·气候变化》上的一项新研究警告说,它们可能很快就会发现食物消失,因为由于全球气温上升,秦岭的大部分竹子可能会在本世纪末消失。)”可推知,秦岭的大量竹子可能会消失。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段和第四段中Liu Jianguo所说的话“80% to 100% of the bamboo would be gone if the average temperature increases 3.5 degrees worldwide by the end of the century (如果到本世纪末全球平均气温上升3.5摄氏度,80%到100%的竹子将会消失。)”和“This is how much the temperature would rise by 2100 even if all countries will keep their promises in The Paris Agreement. But you know what is happening around the world. (即使所有国家都遵守《巴黎协定》的承诺,气温到2100年仍会上升到这一程度。但你清楚地知道,世界各地正在发生什么。)”可知,世界各地当前的情况无法保证全球平均气温仅上升3.5摄氏度,表明将温度上升控制在这一幅度以内是困难的。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“There are about 260 pandas in the Qinling Mountains. That is about 13% of the China’s wild panda population. (秦岭地区约有260只大熊猫,约占中国野生大熊猫总数的13%。)”可知,中国野生大熊猫约有2000只(=260÷13%)。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其第一段中“The endangered pandas in the Qinling Mountains might face a new threat: the loss of their food — bamboo, which makes up 99% of their meals. (秦岭濒危的熊猫可能面临新的威胁:它们的主要食物——竹子,其占饮食的99%——可能会消失。)”可知,全文围绕气候变化导致竹子消失这一新威胁展开,并强调保护大熊猫需要国际合作。因此,“大熊猫面临的新威胁”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。
