I Love Our Orange Tent
I love our orange tent.
We plant it like a flower in the field.
The grass smells sweet inside it.
And at night
when we’re lying in it,
I hear the owl crying.
When the wind blows,
my tent flaps
like a flying bird.
And the rain
patters down on it
with tiny footsteps.
I feel warm and safe
inside my tent.
But when the sun shines,
that’s when I love it best!
When I wake up
and the sun is shining,
it pours in like yellow honey.
It glows like gold.
I love our orange tent.

(2025·陕西·中考真题)Zhao Xiang is a seventh grader who loves music. He has a good voice and is in a singing club. Recently, he had a problem. His school would hold a singing competition. His class teacher, Mr. Yao, talked to the class and they decided to sing a chorus masterpiece* at the competition.
For the performance, Mr. Yao even invited his wife, a local musician, to guide the practice. Zhao Xiang thought it was a good chance for him to show his talent.
At the first practice, things did not go as what Zhao Xiang had expected—he was too good to join the others. The musician was not satisfied and Zhao Xiang felt bad. Mr. Yao saw everything and he came up to Zhao Xiang and comforted him, “Please remember, Zhao Xiang, singing a chorus is NOT one person’s job. Everyone has to work together to achieve a good result.” Zhao Xiang realized that his voice would not help if he failed to work well with others.
Zhao Xiang changed his way of singing—he did not sing so loud as he used to, and his voice became more mixed with the others’. He even helped the musician to train those who had trouble in singing by showing them how to breathe (换气), how to control voice and sing gracefully. The practice was hard, but everyone was happy with him—the class teacher, the musician, his classmates, and even his parents—about his development!
At last, the Big Day came. The whole class was on the stage. They tried their best and they made it! When the headmaster read out first prize, everyone jumped up and shouted with joy. They threw Zhao Xiang up into the air. Zhao Xiang felt great because he knew he was not just singing for himself but for the class as a team. The Internet is the best thing to happen since the creation of the alphabet*. However, can you trust what you read on the Internet? Anyone in the world can put a website on the Internet. Many people say that the things they read on the Internet may not be true. You need to be careful when you look through lots and lots of information. As you explore the Internet for information, here are some ideas to get the right things online.
First, check who wrote the website. Make sure that the writer is an expert. For example, if the topic is science, make sure the writer is a (n) _______ or a science teacher. Dear friends,
Have you ever tried to make money on your own, like doing part-time jobs or selling things? What was your first experience of making money? Please share your stories with us!
Peter, 15, UK Story: Selling candies
In my town, we often have weekend markets where people can sell food, crafts and second-hand things. One day in June, my friends and I used my grandmother’s recipe to make different flavors (口味) of candies. It wasn’t easy — we set prices, made signs and talked to strangers. At the end of the day, we didn’t make much money but felt proud and joyful. We gave away 20% of the money to a local animal shelter (收容所).
Huang Li, 14, China Story: Teaching Spoken English
During the summer holiday, I volunteered to teach my neighbors spoken English for free at first. I prepared simple topics and organized role-plays and pronunciation practice. I kept encouraging them not to be afraid of making mistakes. Soon more and more neighbors joined my class. At the end of the summer, I was paid for my teaching. I was so excited because it was my first time making money on my own. More importantly, I took pride in helping others build confidence in speaking English.

Do you save old movie tickets in your bag? Instead of throwing them away, many young people are now turning all this “junk” into art. This popular trend is called junk journaling. While a normal diary is full of writing, a junk journal is filled with things like tickets and fast-food bags. These things show where you’ve been and what you’ve done. They help you keep your memories alive in a new way. Here are four simple steps to help you get started!
Step 1: Choose your cover
You don’t need to buy anything! Look around your home for an old box, an old book cover, or even a large envelope. Fold it in half to make a cover. You can decorate it with cloth or pretty paper to make it look special.
Step 2: Prepare the pages
Collect different kinds of paper, such as book pages, paper bags, or printed paper. Group about 8 to 12 sheets together. This collection of paper is called a “signature (页组)”.
Step 3: Bind * everything together
Now it’s time to put the pages into the cover. You can use some tools to tie them up. If that sounds too difficult, you can use rings or ribbons (丝带) to hold the pages together.
Step 4: Decorate and enjoy
This is the best part! Add pockets, stickers, and ribbons. Glue in your movie tickets or photos. Remember that there are no rules. Just have fun and use your hands to tell your own story!

(2026·陕西西安·三模)Art has been a part of human life for a very long time. When you visit an art museum, you will see paintings from hundreds of years ago. But guess what? The oldest paintings in the world are not in any museum. They are hiding in ancient caves (洞穴)! Yes, you heard that right! Long ago, Neanderthals (尼安德特人) were the first great artists, good at making pictures, and they did it on cave walls.
For many years, experts thought the first art appeared in Western Europe. They believed this because of famous cave paintings found in places like the Chauvet Cave in France and the El Castillo Cave in Spain. Researchers found paintings of animals in these dark caves, like lions and horses, along with hand signs. Some of these paintings are around 40,000 years old! One painting, a round red plate in the El Castillo Cave, is believed to be the oldest, at 40,800 years old.
Recently, new discoveries have changed everything! Scientists found old cave paintings, too, on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. These paintings have hand-painted pictures and animals like pigs, and they are just as old as those in Europe. Scientists are surprised these artworks are about 40,000 years old, too!
These new findings show us that early humans were making art in different parts of the world at the same time. It shakes up the idea that Europe was the birthplace of art. Some experts even believe art might have started in Africa over 100,000 years ago!

As a young girl, Jane Goodall loved watching animals and reading stories about them. She dreamed of going to Africa one day to study and write about wild animals. When she grew up, Jane worked hard and saved enough money for a trip to Africa.
In Africa, Jane met Dr. Louis Leakey, a famous scientist. He needed help with an important new animal study. Dr. Leakey asked Jane to work on the chimpanzee study with him. So, Jane and her mother moved to the country of Tanzania (坦桑尼亚). They lived with chimpanzees in the Gombe (贡贝) Forest. At first, most of the chimpanzees in Gombe were afraid of Jane. Only a chimpanzee she had named David trusted her. He let Jane meet his family group. Jane wrote notes as she watched the chimpanzees every day.
Jane’s discoveries surprised many scientists. She said chimpanzees were smart enough to use sticks as tools to dig up bugs to eat. She also said chimpanzees showed feelings, as humans do. Jane’s work made some scientists think again about their old beliefs and ideas about chimpanzees.
After many years in Gombe, Jane became very worried. People were cutting down trees in the Gombe Forest. Hunters were stealing baby chimpanzees. Jane knew what she had to do. She talked about her work with many people all around the world. She asked them for help to save the chimpanzees and the forest. She started the Jane Goodall Institute (研究所) and also created a program called Roots & Shoots to teach young people how to help the environment.
