Evan Budz,a 15-year-old boy from Ontario,Canada,is receiving global recognition for
his invention:an autonomous bionic(自主仿生的)sea turtle robot.The robot,which uses AI
to monitor()ecological systems underwater, won Budz a first-place prize in the European
Union Contest for Young Scientists.
Budz was inspired to create this project after he observed the fluent movement of a turtle
while camping. He saw potential in the way the turtle moved and invented a propulsion()
method that copies the swimming motion of green sea turtles in water. Not only is it a unique way to
move through the water, but it also has less impact on the very environments that scientists
are trying to protect.
"Water habitats are important for humanity, and the routine surveying of these environments
has become necessary,"Budz explained."Using a creative bionic robot for such analysis ensures
low ecological disruption(生态破坏).”
Budz said the robot uses a computer vision imaging system powered by AI to measure coral
health, which can detect coral bleaching(珊瑚白化)with96%correctness..“The information
gathered by the robot will ideally allow the right organizations to identify where these threats
may be occurring, increasing awareness and supporting efforts to increase the overall health of
impacted areas,"Budz said.
"For ecological monitoring,I want to trouble the environment as little as possible,"he
added."That's why I designed the robot to imitate the turtle, which allows it to conduct monitoring
without disrupting other living things."
For Budz,it's just another step in protecting the planet,a cause he has cared about for
much of his adolescence."I've been conducting a lot of different research and article reviews,
and find that the environment is becoming increasingly more impacted by global warming and
other human-caused impacts."

The rise of social media has changed many aspects (of our lives, and travel is
no exception.Social media has completely changed the way we travel, making it more
accessible(可获得的),shareable,and sometimes,more expressive.Understanding its impact
can help travelers know about this new environment while keeping a balance between the truth
and social media influence.
One of the most significant ways social media has changed travel is by providing a never-ending
stream of travel inspiration. In the past, people depended on travel magazines, guidebooks,or
word of mouth to learn about new destinations.Today, with just a phone in hand, users can
look through amazing images, videos, and stories from all corners of the world, making travel
dreams more accessible than ever before.
Influencers, bloggers, and even average travelers share their experiences, introducing viewers to
places they may have never considered.Social media is filled with hidden attractions, unique
experiences and lesser-known destinations, which has aroused people's desire for travel and
their curiosity about faraway places. This constant flow of inspiration fuels the desire to explore
new places, contributing to a more adventurous and globally aware generation of travelers.
Planning travel has been changed by social media, too.Instead of depending only on
traditional travel agents or booking websites, people turn to social media platforms()to
research destinations,accommodations,and activities.Comments and travel vlogs(视频日志)
provide real-time insights and tips that guide travel decisions.
While social media has opened up a world of inspiration,it has also introduced new pressures.
The fear of missing out has become a major reason for travel.Seeing friends or influencers
posting pictures from new locations can stir a desire to try those experiences. This has led to
an increase in last-minute bookings,the rise of casual()short trips,and a growing
emphasis on completing the destinations on one's life list.
28.What can be learned about travel information before the rise of social media?
A.It provided more details.
B.It was less easy to get.
C.It sounded more interesting.
D.It gave people more ideas.
29.What is a result of sharing travel experiences online?
A.Bloggers are put in danger.

Some 500 years ago, beavers were hunted for their fur and meat, and disappeared from
Britain. Now they are making a comeback-at least in small pockets in Scotland-and that
may be good news for flood protection and the restoration()of wetlands, though farmers
remain worried that beaver dams()will harm their crops and grasslands.
It seems that beaver dams might help prevent flooding, cleanse water, and benefit fish
populations and wetland ecosystems."When it rains, more water gets stored in pools behind
the dams,and when it's drier,water is gently released()to keep rivers flowing,"says
Richard Brazier,a professor at the University of Exeter.
Four years ago,two beavers were released in an area that was just a small river flowing
through deserted woodland.Within a couple of years, they'd transformed the river into a
rich, wetland habitat."They've built 13 dams and had a good effect on how the water flows
through the site,"says Brazier. This is the kind of measure that some experts believe would
have reduced the impact of the floods in Scotland.
In addition to flood control, beavers may help fish populations.Studies by Paul Kemp of
the University of Southampton show that fish populations in rivers with beavers are larger and
healthier. The beaver pools provide deep water that fish prefer.
However,beavers don't always have a positive impact.In Scotland,where there are 50
to 200 beavers along the River Tay,beaver dams sometimes block drainage ditches()
and create flood risks in farming areas.Beavers also bite trees beside a busy road, and make
holes in anti-flood embankments.
So what do these varied impacts mean for reintroducing beavers in Scotland?
A report by Scottish Natural Heritage presents several options, including removing all
beavers or allowing their uncontrolled reintroduction. The Environment Agency is also closely
monitoring the situation to decide whether the benefits of reintroducing beavers outweigh the risks.
32.Why do farmers feel worried about beaver dams?
A.They will reduce water storage.
B.They will pollute drinking water.
C.They will destroy farming land.
D.They will increase fish populations.
33.What is Brazier's attitude to the reintroduction of beavers?
A.Uncaring.
B.Doubtful.
C.Unclear.
D.Positive.
34.What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.The latest research into beavers.
B.The negative effects of beavers.
C.The benefits of beavers on flood control.
D.The influence of beavers on local plants.
35.What can we infer about beavers in Scotland?
A.Their future is still being debated.
B.They will be completely removed.
C.They will be put under strict control.
D.Their relocation has been finalized.

A Person Who Makes a Difference
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the first time that I had ever run a long race-a marathon. The wind and the rain
were cold, and the sun had not yet appeared to warm the day.The starting gun was about to
go off any second, and I was ready.
At 28,I felt I was in the best shape of my life.I thought I was completely prepared,
having run regularly and participated in several races. But none of those races had been as long
as a marathon-26.2 miles.The longest distance I had run before was just 15 miles.But I was
young, full of confidence, and certain that I could make it.
When the gun went off,the race began.I was filled with excitement, and soon the cold
weather seemed like nothing to worry about.I focused only on maintaining my position among
the other runners. At first,I did have a specific goal in mind-to finish in under four hours.
Once I settled into my pace(),though,I quickly realized the goal was well within reach.
After a few miles,I passed an older runner. He looked to be at least 70 years old,and I
was surprised to see him in the race. What surprised me even more was that he was ahead of
me.He was running slowly, but he kept a steady rhythm().I passed him without saying
a word or offering any encouragement, just continuing to focus on my own race.
By the time I reached the 15-mile mark,I was still on track to finish in under four hours.
However,I began to feel tired. My original goal quickly changed from under four hours to four
hours and ten minutes, then four hours and 20 minutes.By the time I reached the 20-mile
mark,I was out of breath and had to stop running and walk.I moved to the side of the road,
struggling to keep my legs moving.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
And then,to my surprise, the elderly man passed me again.
His words struck me hard, and I pushed myself to continue running.

activities for students to choose from and free time for children to follow their own interests.Classes are
small and are based on the individual needs of each child. The schedule is fixed, and students are expected to
attend all classes.A weekly school meeting is held at the center of the school. It makes all the decisions that
affect the school, including rules, the schedule, and accepting or rejecting new students and teachers.
Participating in these meetings gives the children an understanding of how to make decisions and helps them
develop their communication skills.

第一节
One possible version:
A Person Who Makes a Difference
The person who makes a difference in my eyes is Mr.Chen,a retired teacher in his seventies. He devotes himself
to voluntary work.
Every weekend,he guides citizens along the ancient city wall, offering free lectures on its history and
cultural significance. What impresses me most is his passion-he has been doing this for over five years. As a
result, countless people, including me,have gained a deeper appreciation of our heritage.
From Mr.Chen,I have learned that even ordinary people with a willing heart can make a big difference, and
that protecting our cultural heritage is everyone's responsibility.
第二节
One possible version:
And then,to my surprise, the elderly man passed me again. He was still moving effortlessly, and his
rhythm remained steady despite the heavy rain and strong winds.I was struggling to keep moving, but there he
was, running at the same calm pace as before. As he passed,he gave me a smile and said,"You're almost
there, young man.Just keep going!"His energy seemed endless, and I felt a sense of both admiration and
frustration. How could he maintain such a steady rhythm?I couldn't let him outpace me again.
His words struck me hard, and I pushed myself to continue running.I focused on every step, telling
myself that I could keep up with him.The race wasn't just about beating others;it was about pushing my own
limits and finding out how far I could go.As I neared the finish line,I couldn't catch him,but I was proud of
the effort I had put in.The elderly man had taught me an important lesson:It's not about how fast you run,but
how you keep going,no matter what challenges you face.
