The History of the Computer Mouse
Nowadays, people use computers to do a lot of things every day, like searching for information, playing games, and sending emails. But none of them would go well without the computer mouse.
The first computer mouse appeared in 1964, invented by Douglas Engelbart. It was mainly made up of a wooden shell (外壳), a circuit (电路) board, and two wheels. Engelbart called his invention a "bug". But the long "tail" on the back made it look like a mouse.
Eight years later, Bill English, an American computer engineer, developed the mouse further. He changed the wheels into a rolling (滚动的) ball at the bottom of the mouse. The "Ball Mouse" was easier to use. It had its problems, though. For example, the ball became dirty easily from rolling round the computer. People had to clean the ball often to keep it working well.
The disadvantages (缺点) led to the next development around 1980. Then the optical (光学的) mouse was invented. However, it was too expensive to be widely used then.
The computer mouse has come a long way since it was invented. It has been improved many times to meet the changing needs of users. Have you ever imagined a pen that can write underwater? Or a pen that never runs out of ink? These ideas might sound like science fiction, but they are becoming real.
A company called SmartPen has developed a new kind of pen called the "Infinite Pen". Unlike normal pens that use ink cartridges (墨盒), this pen uses air and water to create ink. It can write on almost any surface, including wet paper, plastic, and even glass.
The idea came from a young engineer named Alex. He loved drawing, but he was frustrated that his pens always stopped working when he went camping or near water. He wanted to create a pen that could work in any environment. After two years of research, he finally succeeded.
The Infinite Pen is not only useful but also environmentally friendly. Since it doesn't use disposable (一次性的) ink cartridges, it produces less plastic waste. The company hopes that this invention will change the way we write and draw.
