During this period, people often begin to discover what is meaningful to them and how they plan to continue living their lives. Volunteering at St. Clare’s Hospital has helped me form a positive experience during my high school years. When I first began volunteering, I was very nervous about meeting new people and being pushed outside of my comfort zone. At the beginning of my volunteering experience, I was rather timid and not very outgoing. Fortunately, as time went by, I discovered how to introduce myself to new volunteers, to go out of my way to make patients feel welcome, and to extend the hand of friendship to others. I learned to respect diversity, which turned out to be particularly helpful in the real world. My volunteering experience at the hospital has led me to believe that my love and sympathy for the disabled can brighten up the day of those lonely patients. There is another valuable lesson I have learned from the volunteer program: The significance of “service” involves making a difference in the lives of others and contributing to the harmony of the community. Now I feel content each time I finish my shift. This positive feeling has motivated me to continue carrying on this worthwhile cause, and has become something that I view as having irreplaceable importance to my life. It’s a great pity that many teenagers in my generation have not had experiences similar to mine and therefore missed out on some of the important lessons that can be learned in life. Knowing that I made a positive impact on someone is an emotionally uplifting experience that can never be matched by money or fame. And, to the best of my ability, I will follow this path of service throughout my life. 4. What does the author think of the high school period? A. It deserves to be taken seriously. B. It is often criticized by people. C. It brings no significance to life. D. It is full of unplanned experiences. 5. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The importance of diversity in the world. B. The author’s changes brought about by volunteering C. Friendship between volunteers and patients. D. Ways to help and respect patients. 6. What does the underlined word “timid” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Confident. B. Shy. C. Brave. D. Calm. 7. What is the purpose of the text? A. To call on the young to volunteer. B. To share the author’s volunteering experience. C. To explain the benefits of volunteering. D. To introduce suitable community work. 4. A 5. B 6. B 7. When we feel worried or afraid, the last thing we feel like doing is laughing. Finding humor can be difficult when we live with anxiety. However, if we begin to look for humor, we can find that laughter can be a great coping skill. Researchers have discovered that laughter has many benefits. Among the ways laughter lifts us by increasing our overall well-being and boosting our mental health. When we live with anxiety, our stress hormones pulse through us. This makes us feel tense and anxious. Although there are no quick solutions for anything in our life, a good laugh can instantly begin to reduce these harmful stress hormones that are mixed with anxiety. Laughter gets to work immediately, and a regular “diet” of laughter continues to decrease anxiety over time. The act of laughing is similar to deep breathing in its ability to increase the oxygen in our bodies. Combined with reducing stress hormones, the increased oxygen in our bodies helps lead to muscle relaxation. All of this helps reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety. Laughing feels good. It’s addictive and we can keep wanting more. When we laugh regularly, our anxiety begins to decrease. When we have humor and give ourselves a chance to laugh a little bit for even a short while each day, we distract our focus. Rather than seeing the world within or without as a worrying place, we start to see it as a good, safe, and perhaps even fun place. We start to see beyond the anxiety. Sure, the anxiety lingers (徘徊) for a while, but every time we laugh, we can reduce it. Introducing intentional laughter into our life decreases our stress hormones. Breathing deeply during the act of laughing relaxes muscles. Thinking about something funny shifts our focus to new things. Having humor regularly helps our outlook become more positive. 8. What can make us feel nervous? A. Pulsing stress hormones. B. Lacking sense of humour. C. Tiredness and sleepiness. D. Feeling eager to get something. 9. Why is deep breathing mentioned in Paragraph 3? A. To compare it with taking exercice. B. To suggest people do it more often. C. To show its importance to the body. D. To explain how laughing reduces anxiety. 10. What does Paragraph 4 focus on in terms of laughter? A. Its functions. B. Its concept. C. Its causes. D. Its disadvantages. 11. Who might need to read the text most? A. A person who has developed a bad habit. B. A person who tends to feel nervous easily. C. A person who is fond of humorous stories. D. A person who can’t get along well with others. A 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段中的“When we live with anxiety, our stress hormones pulse through us. This makes us feel tense and anxious(当我们生活在焦虑中,我们的压力荷尔蒙会在我们体内涌动。这使我们感到紧张和焦虑)”可知,当我们生活在焦虑中时,我们的应激激素在我们体内脉动。这让我们感到紧张和焦虑。由此可知,脉动的应激激素会让我们感到紧张。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“The act of laughing is similar to deep breathing in its ability to increase the oxygen in our bodies. Combined with reducing stress hormones, the increased oxygen in our bodies helps lead to muscle relaxation. All of this helps reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety(笑的行为类似于深呼吸,能够增加我们体内的氧气。结合减少压力激素,体内增加的氧气有助于肌肉放松。所有这些都有助于减轻焦虑的身体症状)”可知,笑的行为在增加我们体内氧气的能力上与深呼吸相似。与减少应激激素相结合,我们体内增加的氧气有助于肌肉放松。所有这些都有助于减轻焦虑的身体症状。由此可知,提到深呼吸是为了解释笑如何减轻焦虑。故选D项。 【10题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段中的“Laughing feels good. Sure, the anxiety lingers (徘徊) for a while, but every time we laugh, we can reduce it(笑感觉很好。 故选A项。 When we feel worried or afraid, the last thing we feel like doing is laughing. Finding humor can be difficult when we live with anxiety. However, if we begin to look for humor, we can find that laughter can be a great coping skill.(焦虑并不好笑。当我们感到担心或害怕时,我们最不想做的事情就是大笑。当我们生活在焦虑中时,寻找幽默可能很困难。然而,如果我们开始寻找幽默,我们会发现笑声是一种很好的应对技巧。).”,由此可知,本文主要介绍了笑对缓解焦虑的积极作用,因此最容易感到紧张的人最需要阅读这篇文章。故选B项。 D Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. Hospitals have committed to digitally enabled care going mainstream and more health services have gone online than ever before. But are older people who don’t use the Internet being left behind? A study by Lancaster University found that lots of older people still avoid online life completely or use the Internet only on occasion. There are various reasons why older people don’t use the Internet. For many, a lack of confidence in their own ability to use technology raised fears about security, particularly with online banking. Whatever the reasons are, one of the biggest concerns about an off line older generation is the likelihood that online. Madeleine Starr MBE, director of business development and innovation at Carers UK, said, “Though many of us use technology in our everyday lives, seven out of ten people don’t yet think of technology when it comes to caring. So, many are not yet realizing the benefits of this technology. Accessing appointments, ordering prescriptions (处方) or having consultations online can all help reduce visits to doctors and unplanned hospital visits.” In an aging society, the Internet can make a huge amount of difference to older people requiring a bit of extra support and those caring for them. “Advice from specialist websites or symptom checkers is great for those who are unsure if their symptoms are cause for concern or find it difficult to get to a doctor’s appointment. Technology is making it easier to offer remote care and support for older people, helping them remain independent. The information on the Internet can prevent older people from taking their health into their own hands,” adds Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK. However, services need to remain accessible to those who aren’t online. While it’s fine to support older people getting online, those who choose not to or cannot do so, for whatever reason, should not be treated like second-class citizens. They must still be able to access services in other ways that suit them. 12. What is the main purpose of paragraph 1? A. To raise a topic to be discussed. B. To list some important facts. C. To express the main idea of the text. D. To introduce new advances in science. 13. What might be the big concern about off line older people? A. They will suffer from terrible loneliness. B. They will face risks from online banking. C. They will fail to benefit from advanced online healthcare. D. They will underestimate the role of modern technology in healthcare. 14. Why does the author mention Caroline Abrahams’ words in paragraph 4? A. To stress the popularity of the Internet. B. To reveal technology is developing very fast now. C. To indicate the big challenges an aging society faces. D. To show the Internet is of great importance to older people. 15. What is the message the author wants to convey in the last paragraph? A. Health services should get support from professionals. B. Older people should be encouraged to place their health first. C. Older people should receive some training in using the Internet. D. Health services should be offered in ways that suit different people. A 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第一段“Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. Hospitals have committed to digitally enabled care going mainstream and more health services have gone online than ever before. But are older people who don’t use the Internet being left behind?(由于技术的发展,医疗服务比以往任何时候都更容易获得。医院已承诺将数字化护理纳入主流,比以往任何时候都有更多的医疗服务上线。但是,不上网的老年人会被抛在后面吗?)”和下文内容可知,第一段提出问题:不上网的老年人是否会被科技的发展所抛下?难以获得更便捷的医疗服务,接下来全文主要围绕这一主题展开讨论,可推理出第一段的主要目的是提出一个要讨论的话题。故选A。 根据第三段“Whatever the reasons are, one of the biggest concerns about an off line older generation is the likelihood that online. (无论原因是什么,对于离线的老一代人来说,最大的担忧之一是在线的可能性)”和“Though many of us use technology in our everyday lives, seven out of ten people don’t yet think of technology when it comes to caring. So, many are not yet realizing the benefits of this technology. Accessing appointments, ordering prescriptions (处方) or having consultations online can all help reduce visits to doctors and unplanned hospital visits.(尽管我们中的许多人在日常生活中使用技术,但十分之七的人在护理方面还没有想到技术。因此,许多人还没有意识到这项技术的好处。预约、订购处方或在线咨询都有助于减少看医生和计划外的医院就诊)”可知,作者认为不上网的老年人将无法从网上医疗中受益,他们会错过网上医疗带来的好处(如预约、订购处方或在线咨询)。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“In an aging society, the Internet can make a huge amount of difference to older people requiring a bit of extra support and those caring for them. “Advice from specialist websites or symptom checkers is great for those who are unsure if their symptoms are cause for concern or find it difficult to get to a doctor’s appointment. Technology is making it easier to offer remote care and support for older people, helping them remain independent. The information on the Internet can prevent older people from taking their health into their own hands,” adds Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK.(在老龄化社会中,互联网可以为需要额外支持的老年人和照顾他们的人带来巨大的改变。 根据最后一段“However, services need to remain accessible to those who aren’t online. While it’s fine to support older people getting online, those who choose not to or cannot do so, for whatever reason, should not be treated like second-class citizens. They must still be able to access services in other ways that suit them.(然而,服务需要对那些不上网的人保持可访问性。 Helping Your Kids to Be Interested in Sports Being active and moving is something that is so important for us all, especially for children. _____16_____ However, some parents can feel shocked when they see that their child isn’t interested in sports. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Being active and moving is something that is so important for us all, especially for children. (活跃和运动对我们所有人都非常重要,对儿童来说尤为重要。)”可知,这里强调活跃和运动对儿童来说尤为重要。选项E“孩子的活跃程度将影响他们的整体健康和学习。”和上文意思一致。故选E。 【17题详解】 根据上文“It is such a good idea to lead by example when you are a parent. This is true for a variety of aspects, but especially forgetting children involved in sport.(当你为人父母时,以身作则是个好主意。这在很多方面都是正确的,但尤其是在忘记孩子们参与体育运动这方面。)”可知,作为家长要为孩子树立榜样,结合上文提到体育运动,可知选项A“如果你不感兴趣,他们就不会对体育感兴趣。”和上文意思一致。故选A。 【18题详解】 根据下文“Although they can choose who they want to support, seeing your enthusiasm for a particular player or team can be just what is needed to start their journey. (尽管他们可以选择他们想要支持的人,但看到你对某个特定球员或球队的热情可能正是他们开始旅程所需要的。)”可知,这里建议家长跟孩子分享喜欢的球员或球队。选项F“除了以身作则,你还可以与他们分享你喜欢的球队。”和下文意思一致。故选F。 【19题详解】 根据上文“You could look for a team uniform store to get them a sports shirt with their name on for example, as well as see the team play at one of their games. And I dreamed to participate in Boston Marathon. Anoush wanted to attend the same marathon with me. Every day we spared our time to practise hard, during which time Anoush gave me much professional guidance and encouragement. And then one day, both of us qualified for the 2017 Boston Marathon. We were excited but unfortunately, several weeks before the marathon, we had a serious quarrel. I didn’t talk with him anymore. The day came. Anoush and I stood at the starting line. He said, “Good luck! You will certainly finish the marathon.” Hearing his words, I looked at him, saying, “It’s none of your business.” Then we started running. Soon, I passed Anoush. But I struggled in the heat starting at mile 16. I felt most of my oxygen went to the muscle in my legs and less in my brain, which made me feel a bit light-headed and dizzy (眩晕的). I continually encouraged myself, “Just get to the finish, run bold, and you will win.” But all phrases that I say to myself didn’t work. Gradually I felt out of breath and had to slow down my pace. He just forgot the quarrel between us. I stood up and began to run with him. When Anoush and I crossed the finish line, the audience at present applauded. Without any preparation, I was hugged by Anoush tightly. Suddenly, I felt regretful to break up with him. Then, I mustered up my courage to say sorry to Anoush. “Thank you and I am so sorry to you, my dear friend. I should not have quarreled with you.” “Just forget it. You know, we are good friends.” Anoush said. I felt more than happy and lucky to have such a friend in my life. Glacier Express Where it goes: St. Moritz to Zermatt in the Swiss Alps This train ride is a favorite among many , as it's the best way to experience the Swiss Alps. It's much more about the journey than the destination, and it gives new meaning to the term “slow travel”, taking over seven hours to pass just 180 miles. Glacier Express. B It is often said that the high school period is one of the most important stages that an individual will experience, and is often seen as a critical and life-shaping time. C Anxiety isn’t funny. D Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. B. As I ran down the famous last stretch of the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street, I fell down on the ground. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 Just then, I felt that someone picked me up. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Anoush and I crossed the finish line, the audience at present applauded. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
