China chose the far side of the moon for two big reasons: For better science: The far side of the moon always faces away from Earth. Because of this, it is much quieter and not polluted by Earth's radio signals. Scientists believe the soil there is older. By studying those samples, we can learn more about the early history of the moon and our solar system. To show great technology: It is very difficult to land there. Since the far side faces away from Earth, we cannot send signals directly. We had to put a special satellite (called "Queqiao") in space to pass the messages.
