Chinese people are widely known as one of the most hospitable (好客的) people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they will not only be served carefully, but also be deeply moved by the warmth as guests.
When you step into a Chinese family, the host will first greet you kindly and quickly make a cup of tea, which is a traditional way to show respect. Then, a plate of snacks will be placed on the table, such as candies, biscuits and local specialties. There will always be family members chatting with you, to make sure you never feel left out.
Meanwhile, other family members will busy themselves in the kitchen preparing a feast. Chinese people believe that treating guests to a rich meal is the best way to express hospitality. They often cook far more dishes than the guests can eat, including meat, vegetables, soups and desserts. During the meal, the host will let the guests start eating first. What surprises Western guests most is that the host often picks food for them with serving chopsticks.
Even after you finish eating and say you are full, the host will still say gently, “It seems you didn’t eat much. Please have a little more.” This kind of enthusiasm (热情) comes from the depths of Chinese culture. As Confucius said thousands of years ago, “It is a great pleasure to meet friends from far away.” This ancient wisdom has been passed down and has become an important part of Chinese tradition.
24. What does the underlined word “feast” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. A special snack. B. A big dinner. C. A healthy drink.
25. Why do Chinese hosts prepare more food than guests can eat?
A. They want to express hospitality.
B. They are afraid guests don’t like the dishes.
C. They want to show their wealth.
26. What will surprise Western guests most during the meal?
A. There are many kinds of snacks.
B. Guests are the first to eat.
C. The host picks food for guests.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The history of Chinese etiquette (礼节).
B. How to make tea for guests in China.
C. Chinese people’s hospitality and treating customs.

Since 2023, public schools in South Australia have banned (禁止) mobile phones during school hours. The ban also covers smartwatches, iPads, laptops, and any other personal electronic devices (电子设备).
What do students think of the ban three years later? Researchers from two Australian universities surveyed (调查) more than 1,500 students from five public schools. Almost all of them had a phone, and nearly half had used it at school before the ban.
According to the study, most of the students agree that the ban has brought real benefits, although it was hard to accept at first.
First, students are more focused in class. A 12-year-old girl said without worrying about social media, she could keep her mind on her studies and improve her ability to notice the things around her.
Second, the ban helps students build better friendships. Before the ban, students spent free time on their phones. Some even used their phones while walking. This made it hard to form deeper friendships. Now, students have the chance to get to know each other well. They can actually take a break during lunch, enjoy the sunshine, and build face-to-face connections.
However, the study also found challenges. Researchers noted that schools should teach students “a sense of responsibility (责任)” for managing their own phone use. They explained that it was about helping students understand why this rule is in place.
28. Why did the researchers do the survey?
A. To find out students’ opinions about the ban.
B. To learn about students’ real lives at school.
C. To help public schools improve the rule.
29. What benefits did the girl receive according to Paragraph 4?
①Having less homework to do. ②Noticing the world around her.
③Making more friends at school. ④Paying attention to learning.
A. ①② B. ②④ C. ③④
30. What’s the main idea of the fifth paragraph?
A. The ban is difficult to accept.
B. Students have a good time during lunch.
C. The ban has helped build friendships.
31. What does the underlined sentence mean?
A. Teachers should make strict rules for students.
B. Students should learn how to follow the rule.
C. Students should understand the purpose of the rule.
D
①Charity is important. Not only because it can change people’s lives, but also because it can change the world. With donations to charities, we can help those less lucky and support causes (事业) we believe in. Whether you’re looking for a way to give back or just want to learn more about the work of charities, this post is for you.
②A charity is an organization that helps people or communities in need. A charity may raise money from common people, companies and governments. Charities usually work on certain areas such as health care, education, disaster relief and so on.
③Charities provide services that are important to people in need: food banks provide food for hungry families; churches help find cheap places to live in; hospitals provide free basic care for low-income patients; animal charities save homeless pets from certain death and find them new homes … The list is endless. They help improve the lives of millions of people every day.

⑤Charities don’t just help people. There are also many charities that protect the environment and conserve (保护) natural resources. The Nature Conservancy, for example, is a global conservation organization that works to save the lands and waters on which all life depends. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has been working for more than 50 years to protect endangered species and their living areas.
⑥Charities play an important role in our society. They provide necessary services for millions of people every day and play an important role in our economy.

First, some picked up the waste. Then, some put it into bags. Finally, the others carried the bags to the bin. Wo finished the work much faster than we thought. After that, we felt happy and proud.

【答案】28. A 29. B 30. C 31. C

【答案】One possible version:
Dear Jack,
It’s great to hear from you. You asked about the most unforgettable thing this term. I’d like to share my first volunteer experience.
It happened on Earth Day. Our teacher encouraged us to do something for the environment, so my classmates and I decided to clean the park near our school. We spent the whole morning picking up rubbish there. While we were cleaning, some visitors even thanked us. We also felt proud as the park became cleaner and more beautiful. At that moment, I realized our small effort truly made a difference.
Being a volunteer has given me a sense of achievement. I’ll never forget that day.
What about you? Have you done any volunteer work?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours,
Teng Fei
