A terrible disaster almost happened on a school bus in Mississippi not long ago, but five brave middle school students turned danger into safety.
Last Wednesday in Hancock County, school bus driver Ms Taylor was taking students home from school as usual. Suddenly, she had a serious asthma (哮喘) attack and fell over in her seat. All the students on the bus quickly realized something was very wrong.
When the bus started to run off the road and speed up, the students were not afraid. Instead, they worked together fast to stop the danger. Jackson ran to the front at once and held the steering wheel (方向盘) to keep the bus balanced. At the same time, Darrius jumped to push the brake (刹车) hard. He said the bus was moving faster and faster, and stopping it almost made him fall forward, but he did not give up. While some students were controlling the bus, others helped the sick driver. Kay called 911 right away. Destiny and Clark noticed Ms Taylor reaching for her asthma medicine. They quickly helped her get the medicine to breathe better. The five brave students also calmed down the other scared kids and stayed with Ms Taylor until doctors and the police arrived. Thanks to them, no one got hurt, and the bus stopped safely.
Ms Taylor felt very thankful. She said their actions saved everyone’s life and they were true heroes for everyone.

Do you like bread for breakfast? Have you ever dropped a piece of bread and found it lying butter-side down on the floor? You might think it’s just bad luck. But scientists tell us there is a real reason behind the phenomenon (现象).
Some people believe the weight of the butter makes the bread fall that way. However, this is not true. If the butter is put evenly (均匀地), it doesn’t change how the bread falls. So what makes the bread land butter-side down so often?
Imagine you are eating breakfast. Suddenly, you drop a piece of bread off the table. When more than half of the bread moves past the edge (边缘), it starts to turn over. It keeps turning at a steady speed (匀速) while falling towards the floor. The problem is that most tables are not very high. The distance to the floor is too short for the bread to make a full turn. It usually completes only about half of a rotation before it hits the ground. That is why it lands butter-side down.
Is there any way to make it land butter-side up? Sure. If the bread falls from a greater height—for example, from nine or ten feet above the ground — it would have enough time to make a full rotation. Then it would land on its dry side. And if the bread is pushed off the table very quickly, it may not have time to rotate at all. In that case, it would also land butter-side up.
But even if your bread lands on the dry side, it’s still on the floor. Maybe the best way to enjoy bread is to make sure it doesn’t fall at all.
23. How does the writer lead in the topic?
A. By giving examples. B. By telling stories. C. By showing reasons. D. By asking questions.
24. Which of the following best shows the underlined word “rotation” in Paragraph 3?
A. B. C. D.
25. Which is the way to make the bread land butter-side up?
A. Move the bread past the table edge. B. Put much more butter on the bread.
C. Push the bread off the table slowly. D. Make the bread fall from a proper height.
26. What can be the best title of the text?
A. An Interesting Phenomenon B. An Amazing Dinner
C. A Very Useful Cooking Skill D. A Kind of Delicious Food

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has influenced our lives a lot. Scientists have developed a new AI model to change the way teenagers learn. It makes lessons more lively and efficient.
This AI model uses a special technology. It shows two key parts of learning: what students are like and what learning materials (材料) they use. It collects 42 different kinds of information to build a model for every student. So the AI model can choose the best learning materials for each student by itself.
The AI model works in two smart ways. First, it uses a special way to connect different pieces of information, so it can understand students’ needs clearly. Second, it uses a knowledge map to connect every learning material to the skills students need to learn.
The results are amazing! The AI model can correctly find out good learning materials most of the time. Its performance is 23.5% better than traditional methods. Students can learn knowledge 37.2% more quickly. Also, more students form good learning habits, and this number has grown by 41.3%. Now 87.6% of students can finish their lessons successfully.
What’s more, the AI model helps teachers too. It helps them cut down some useless learning materials and makes their work much easier. This shows that AI can be a great tool for education. It is a useful way to make lessons easier and more interesting for students all over the world.
27. Why have the scientists developed the new AI model?
A. To help students get better grades. B. To collect important information.
C. To cut down more useless classes. D. To change the way teenagers learn.
28. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to?
A. The knowledge. B. The information. C. The AI model. D. The education.
29. What percentage of students can finish their lessons successfully with the help of the AI model?
A. 23.5%. B. 37.2%. C. 41.3%. D. 87.6%.
30. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. It shows teachers’ needs for the AI model. B. It introduces an efficient and useful AI model.
C. It explains when we need to use the AI model. D. It reports how scientists developed the AI model.

C. Push the bread off the table slowly. D. Make the bread fall from a proper height.

【答案】
例文
As the summer vacation is coming, it’s a perfect time to read a great book. I strongly recommend The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.
This book tells a moving story about an old fisherman who fights bravely against a giant marlin and sharks in the sea. Although he finally brings back only a skeleton, his spirit touches everyone.
I recommend it because it is not only interesting but also very meaningful. It teaches me that “a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Whenever I face difficulties, this book gives me courage.

IT took us about thirty minutes. We looked everywhere behind the sofa, under the bed, in the bookcase. Finally, I found IT under a big plant in the garden. Grandpa was very happy. He thanked us again and again. I felt great that day by offering help. I understand that volunteering is not just about work, it's about caring for others. Hi everyone, i'm mike.
